We are buying a new mattress this year. Our old one is only 9 years old. I wrote about buying our present one on this blog post. Now instead of having a valley in the middle like our old one, our present one has a hill dividing us. This one was not a good buy, as I had hoped to get more than 9 years out of it....though saying that how long does a mattress normally last?
So this is where you guys come in. I am thinking of buying one of those mattresses in a box. That way they are delivered to your door and you deal with it. On the up and down side though, one I don't have to lie down on mattresses in a store, and risk getting head lice (read the old blog post) but the down side is I can't lay on one to get the feel of it.
I have narrowed down a couple of choices. This one by Endy.
Yes they are both expensive and will cost $2,000 but the older we get the more we crave a decent night's sleep. Hubby especially is a bad sleeper.

Oh my...The last mattress we bought was a Sealy Posturepedic, years ago and even then, it was $3000. But, it's as good now as it was then.
The one we sleep on now is a Sleep Number bed. The SP is in the guessroom. I like it better than the Sleep Number. Larry loves the SN but I'm constantly waking up...
Good luck on your hunt! Some of those places will let you sleep on them for 100 days...not satisfied? Mail it back...and that's where they get you! Ever try putting one of those Back in the box?Lolol

Boy do I miss Sears too. I always felt like no matter what you needed you could find it and there was always choice for varying budgets. I hope it comes back one day. I felt it was a national treasure.
I can't help you with mattresses as I've never bought a new one. I would be so scared of not trying before buying as I love a soft mattress, but I will say all my friends who've ordered 'mattress' in a box' have *raved* about them and say they'd never go back to a normal mattress. So I hope that's at last encouraging!

I am going to be interested in where you go with this. We could use a new one too, ours is about ten years old. Wasn't cheap and from the Brick. It is sagging in the middle.
We're sleeping on a 'bed in a box' mattress right now and we like it. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it though, but I do know it isn't either of the ones you mentioned. It was astounding that it arrived in what seemed like a really tiny box but once you take it out, don't get in the way because it 'inflates' in a hurry! The only drawback we found was that we had to deal with our old mattress ourselves - many places will do that for you if they deliver a new mattress. It wasn't easy hauling our old one down three flights of stairs and out to the dumpster.
Can't help with the mattress went to local store but need to know about the head lice.😲
We haven't been happy with the last two we bought, both by Sealy. The top layer of whatever the product is seems to get "loose". There is a ridge in the middle of both mattresses! The most recent one is only 8 months old and was VERY expensive, in the thousands.
We bought the Novaform mattress in a box from Costco a couple years ago. My husband has sciatica and I have degenerative disc disease and neither one of us could sleep in it after the first little bit without being in agony. We got the dual adjustable beds instead.I’ll never buy a mattress in a box again, not enough structure in it for us.
We're still sleeping on a Sealy Hotel quality mattress that we bought in 1990! No dips or valleys.
Our sons went with mattress in a boxes and both have replaced them within 3 years. they paid for Sealy's and haven't looked back.
People that have bought Endy mattresses really like them. We need a new mattress as well and are thinking of the Endy as well.

Can't help you with the bed in a box, and do not know of any family or friends who have one.
They inflate, are they puncture resistant, that would be a concern for me. Punctured with what I don't know but I am always wonder about issues that might arise.

We bought our mattress from a local retailer. I like a really firm mattress and it was useful trying different levels of firmness. Take a plastic tablecloth cover to lay your head on.
After having a total failure of a Sealy mattress (purchased just prior to Sears closing), we bought a Simba mattress. I have osteoarthritis in my lower back and it hardly bothers me at night anymore. Simba's are considered a hybrid of foam and small steel coil springs...firm but not too firm. We love ours and are thinking of buying another for our spare room bed. Simba's were originally made in the UK, but the ones we buy in Canada are made in Ontario. I say go for the Simba.
