"The Git Up,"

Love this song and video........
Have you seen it before? It feels like a combo of Big Town Road by Lil Nas X
 (Did you see Brad Pitt?)

and I Don't Care by Ed Sheeran. Some of the comments on the You Tube video are funny:

"Editor: I'm very bad at editing Justin and Ed: I don't care"

"Director: How much green screens and photoshop do you want in this video Ed: I don’t care"

"Director:How do you want it edited? Justin and Ed:I don’t care"

Thought this was interesting......

Here is the burrow system of an Eastern Chipmunk:

Although they hibernate, they wake up every few days to relieve themselves, regulate their temperature and eat.  They have quite a system all worked out there, don't you think?

I was so happy yesterday to get a load of laundry hung on the line, especially as it was the shower curtain and liner and all the bath mats.  They smelled so good when I brought them in.

Do you hang out your laundry to dry?

October 28th and no jacket required........

I have been out in the garden raking leaves and got so hot that I had to take my fleece jacket off and finish my gardening in my t-shirt.  I am guessing this will be it for nice warm weather.  We did have some snow forecast for the end of the week, but I see it has changed to rain, which is perfectly fine by me!!

We had a hard frost on the weekend, plus a lot of rain, so it resulted in a lot of leaves falling.  Now I don't know about you, but I prefer to rake leaves when the weather is nicer, even though they were wet.

Good exercise and didn't take too long.  Also raked up the leaves by the sewer drain and some in the back and side yards.
Looks a lot better but that other tree has to drop it's leaves yet.  Look how blue the sky is, it's a wonderful day out there for the end of October.

Diwali 2019

We were invited to "R's" for a Diwali luncheon on Saturday.  I was a "big girl" and decided to suck it up and eat the food.  I DO NOT LIKE SPICY FOOD............even mild spice is too hot for me😕

There was both veggie and meat dishes.

These weren't too bad, just like corn cakes with a little spice in it.
These were mixed green veggie fritters and I enjoyed these the best.
This lamb was flipping spicy, made my nose run, so gave it too dh.
The daal was okay, smelled like baked beans too me.
This smelled spicy and didn't look good, so I gave it a miss😊
Dh said this wasn't as spicy as the lamb so I maybe could have tried it.
There was also naan, rice and salad, so a good variety of things, plus a couple of sweet dishes.

We had a good time and caught up with a few people.  I forgot to wear my sari....yes I have a sari, only worn it the once, but this would have been a perfect time to wear it.........I don't have any photos of me wearing it either.

I was naughty though and kept answering the door just to confuse the heck out of people who didn't know me..........they thought they had come to the wrong house....LOL😁

Overnight oats........

We have jumped onto the overnight oats bandwagon and I must say both dh and I are embracing it.  I am especially surprised at dh as he doesn't normally have breakfast when he goes to work.  He takes this with him so he can have it with his 8:30 am coffee.

Different people do it different ways but this is how we prepare it.

I bought both types of oats to try out and the large flake oats work best for us.  The steel cut oats kept getting stuck to the roof of our mouth.

Was told to use this particular type of "milk," and so we do.
The recipe for us is 1/2 cup of oats, just cover with "milk."  I did try using just half a cup and found it way too dry.  We then add a handful of frozen fruit on top and put it in the fridge overnight with lid on.
In the morning we add a pot of fat free yogurt to it, as we find it too dry.
Have you tried the overnight oats?  Do you like it?

Ducts, Scrunchies and Peas.....

Odd combination don't you think?

Had the heating ducts cleaned today.  The house is 12 years old and the heating ducts had never been cleaned out.  So just under $250 later (we also have an HRV system) they are nice and clean.  However this is only part of what came out:

Just nasty what we had been breathing in........

I picked up a 50 cent bag of scrap fabric the other day with the goal of making scrunchies for the girls.  Got 8 made with the bag of scraps.
The blue fabric is like a velvet/minky fabric that sheds like crazy, so had to give my machine a good clean out after I had finished.  So a little thread, 60 inches of 1/2 inch elastic and three scrap pieces of fabric and my time was all it took to make those.

Now for the peas.  Made a couple more sets of pea fabric produce bags.  I just love this fabric.
I will thread the drawstrings through after I publish this post, then they are all ready to sell.  A set of three is $20 in my shop.

Did you vote?

Today it's election day here in Canada.  I am a great believer in voting when you are allowed too.

As always though, there are years when you just shake your head at the candidates and this year is one of them.  HOWEVER, if you don't vote you can't complain about who gets voted in, if it's not too your liking..............

This year is a bit different for me, as I really like one of the leaders, but can't stand the party he's leader of.  It looks like it will be a close run here, so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.  I WILL NOT be sitting up to see who wins.  We class ourselves as middle class, so we never get anything regardless of who is in power!

Do you always vote when there is a general election in your country?

Perfect day for soup.

I made a batch of carrot soup on Thursday as I knew I had to leave a simple meal for dh, as I was at the craft show.  I first posted this recipe back in 2008.  I have been using this recipe for years, you can check it out here.  I love that it's all done in the microwave oven.  I sprinkled a little goat cheese on top of it for extra flavour, as I rarely eat bread nowadays.

I was eating this while watched football on tv with hubby, so used my trusty soup bowl cozie.

While I was looking up the post for the recipe, I stumbled across this post, which features, carrot, potato and turnip (rutabaga) soup, which I think I may make this week, as I have all the ingredients in the house.  That post also included one of Mrs. Brown's video's!!

This week at Wal-Mart they had obviously over ordered on the broccoli and were selling it off at 27 cents a bunch.  So I will make a batch of broccoli soup and a broccoli quiche with the two bunches I bought.

What is your favourite soup, and do you make your own?

Thank you for all your suggestions.......

regarding the craft shows.

I always try and say "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening" when people pass by.  I am fortunate I can talk to anyone about anything.  I will try and make sure things are clearly marked; price wise.  When talking to others, a lot of people said they have been too shows and not sold a thing, so I was lucky to at least have sold a couple of things.

I need to focus on the two other shows and my internet business.  I signed up for a business account with Canada Post and every Tuesday during the month of October I can send one parcel up to 5 kg free of charge in Canada.  If anyone has been eyeing anything on my Facebook Page or if you don't have Facebook and would like to know if I could ship an item you know I make just let me know.  This coming week's free shipping hasn't been snapped up yet.

I have these knitting bags in the shop they are $45 each and will make a great gift:

For anyone going on a trip to the islands during the winter I have beach bags and matching toiletry bags that would make perfect gifts.

Fish beach bag $35, Fish toiletry bag (waterproof lining) $25.  Combo price $55

 Toiletry Bag 10 inches x 9 inches
Coral Beach Bag $35, Coral Toiletry Bag (waterproof lining) $20.  Combo Price $50
Toiletry Bag 9 inches wide x 7 1/2 inches high
I also have a couple of reversible back packs, so two bags in one still in stock that would make super gifts.

The British themed one is $40  Approx. 14 inches square.

The Sunshine one has a lemon back. $40 Approx. 14 inches square
Here is another photo with a peek of the reversible side:

My second ever show........

This is how I set up my table:

I had a good assortment of items.  There were plenty of people, but no one way in a buying mood.  I sold three items, which was three more than a number of people did.  There were a number of people who sold nothing.  I at least made more than what my table cost, but barely.

I think what the problem was; it was a high school parent's and teacher's interview evening, so parents were focused on that, plus it was over supper time and we all know teenagers stomach never ever are full😀  So all the kids wanted to do was go home and eat.

As this is my second show, I need to get through the other two shows I have booked to give this craft show thing a fair chance.  However I will not be participating in this particular event; I just don't think it is worth my time.

Have you ever been a vendor at craft shows, what ate your experiences and/or your advice for me?

Rudely Awoken......

I was sound asleep at 6:30 am when the telephone rang.  It's right beside me, so picked it up and it was a voice recording telling me that someone was trying to use my credit card for an E-Bay transaction and an international transaction.

In my sleep induced stupor I thought "NOPE!" and hung up the bloody phone........by this point though my mind is now working overtime, as yes I had made an International purchase.......thank you Mark's and Spencer's for having a 20% off sale😁  However I never ever use E-Bay.

So I get up and call my credit card company to double check and everything is fine.  I hate those stupid scam calls......

We do still have a home phone..........not sure for how long though........they will be a thing of the past no doubt before long!  Do you have a home phone line?

Busy Saturday

We had a busy Saturday doing bits and bobs.  We went and voted despite the fact that I don't care for any of the leader's of the parties. but as my husband says:

"If you vote at least you can complain about what they do!"

So very true, and believe me when I say I do complain!!!😂

Then in the afternoon dh and I did something we haven't done in probably 36 years........we went on a date to the movies to see this:

Thoroughly enjoyed it.  I went to the movies last year to see Bohemian Rhapsody and enjoyed that.  We went to the movie theatre with the big cushy reclining seats.  The theatre was PACKED with 8 of us watching it!!

I booked online and have to say I bet they were glad to see the back of us in the movie theatre........well me anyway.  We couldn't figure out how to print out our tickets, so "made" the staff do it.  Then I bought a coffee each for us and it cost $6 for two tiny coffee's.........which due to the fact I have no filter,  I said out loud for all to hear I had never seen coffee cups that small!!

Walked into the theatre room and realized I had booked the wrong seats they were way too close to the screen, so told them they were no good and I wanted new seats.  As it was there were tons of room, we could have sat anywhere..........I know high maintenance or what😝

Regardless it made a super change for us and I hope we have another date at the movies soon.......or at least try to go once a year!

Do you ever go to the movies?  What was the last movie you saw?

What are you up too today?

My new best friend...........

and I love her too bits:

I am talking about my google home!  I love to listen to music while I am sewing.  I have a free spotify account so I can access a lot of music.  I guess if I paid for an upgraded spotify account I could listen to more, but so far this works well.

One thing though, I have bluetooth in my car, and am forever pressing the button in the car and saying:

"ok Google call so, and so!"

Which obviously my bluetooth doesn't understand at all.

I am sure my google home can do more, so if anyone has one, what do you use yours for?

Hotel Stay - Dinner

As part of our hotel stay the kids had booked us dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea. Here is what we ate at dinner.  Everything was spot on...
