When we were in the UK last year we went for afternoon tea to The Inn on The Lake, in Glenridding (click on the name of the hotel to go to their site), in the Lake District. We went on the day of the Queen's funeral. Most places were closed, but they were open. It was a once in a lifetime treat for us. It was such a lovely place. A place we will probably never ever stay at. We had a wander around the grounds before we ate. It's all very lovely.
As the name suggests it's right beside Lake Ullswater.Everything was so green and lush.
Now on the sweet side, the scones were the best ones I had all through the trip. Every one of the desserts were good, though we ended up taking most of them home as we were full.
There was unlimited tea and coffee as well. When I booked it they asked about dietary restrictions; now although we had none, we don't like dried fruit (sultanas, currents, raisins etc), so nothing like that was included. It was served in the Orangery and we did all dress up. However, everyone else there was in regular everyday clothing!
As we all said we were there for the whole experience and it was a super experience. Next time we go to the UK we will do it again at another hotel as we thoroughly enjoyed it and we waddled out of the hotel, stuffed full.

I dearly love a formal Afternoon Tea and that one sounds wonderful. xx
I would love to be able to do that! The area is beautiful, and the food looks amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it!

That looks wonderful! I've been to England once, but not the Lake District. -Jenn
I will be going to England and Scotland at the end of July, (son has tickets for the British Open---Golf) and invited Hubby and I to go also. Will certainly have one of those teas, looks delicious.
Glad you enjoyed the experience.
it seems "tea" the way we interpret it, is tiny sweet things. That really looks hearty.
We are not too far from The Lakes - a couple of hours on the motorbike! We went to the Isle of Man TT Races for many years - the port we sailed from was Heysham so we knew the routs quite well!
That is one thing I wish we would have done when we were in the UK. Your tea looks very delicious.
God bless.
We have a really lovely British styled tea room in our community. Unfortunately the proprietor is an absolute B****h, so we won't be going back. It's really sad because the place is gorgeous and the offerings are super nice.
This looks so fabulous! Next time we're in England I'm going to high tea -- with or without Rick! (He balked last time -- I think he thought it would be all cucumber sandwiches and tarts!) What a marvelous experience!
What a fun experience and those goodies certainly look yummy! We used to have a tea room here but it closed several years ago and I don't think there are any more within easy driving distance. Too bad, because they are fun.
I love afternoon tea, not been for one in a while though. Whenever we have gone we have always dressed up too, feels like something you should do when taking afternoon tea :-)
Yours looked amazing
How lovely!! My Mum took a short break in that area the last time she was in the UK. It was a very good deal and gave her 3 nights at a Lake District hotel.
Did your adult kids join you on the trip? That must have been so very special. Did any of the grands go? I haven't been 'home' in 13 years this summer (yikes!). We have enough air miles to all travel by air & for a hotel in London for a few nights. It just health complications and some of the additional costs. Won't be possible this year, but I'm realllllly hoping for 2024 or 2025.
High tea is just so special isn't it? A very favourite here too. I used to make my own far more often than I do now. Should change that!
