I was driving to the store Saturday morning. It was minus 15 oC without the windchill and super sunny. I spotted this:
I was either stopped at traffic lights, or I pulled over on the side of the road when taking these.

I read something on those, but I forgot what they are called. I am going to make the cookies from the last post with a chocolate cake mix, strawberry jello because it is here, and chocolate chips instead of chocolate cookies. And, I have apple sauce, so I won't need to buy anything. They should be delicious.

I googled your photo and it seems to be an 'Arctic snowbow'. It said . . .
"Did you happen to see the rare “rainbow” this morning? You could call it is an arctic rainbow, a snowbow, or the more technical term is a ground level sundog. A sun dog normally shows up when plate shaped ice crystals 30,000 feet in the atmosphere refract the sun’s light. In today’s arctic air the sun rose over a very cold morning. The air temperature was about 5 below zero at the time and there was a haze of plate shaped ice crystals that formed. This is a common occurrence in Fairbanks, Alaska where the temperature is routinely in the -20 to -50 degree range in the winter time. This is a rare view in northwest Ohio. A sun dog forms a rainbow on arc on both sides of the sun. 13abc’s News Director Brian Trauring captured these images near Holland Sylvania and Central Avenue around 8:45am this morning."

I think that's called a 'sun dog' but not 100% sure. At any rate, it's pretty impressive to see!
I don't know if that's a sundog or a sun pillar but it is gorgeous -- and I'e never seen one either. There are photos on wikipedia to help identify. I've only seen one in my life -- and NEVER this spectacular.

Hi Gill, I believe those are sun pillars. I saw them for the first time six or seven years ago. Aren’t they incredible??
Gorgeous pictures! Ontario does get some beautiful sunsets. I know you commented on my last post but I cannot see the comment, ugh!
I was going to say it looks like a partial sun dog, but those usually only happen when the temperature is much colder. Very pretty.
