I had collected all my Christmas cards and placed them beside our desktop computer.
As every year, I write down in an Excel spreadsheet who I got cards from. If there was a note in the card or a letter. Minus the grandchildren we got a grand total of 10 cards this year. I am sending less and less each year. I add a new page to the spreadsheet each year, and refer to it when I start to write the Christmas cards. I haven't bought regular Christmas cards in years, still using up my stash. I am a huge fan of Papyrus cards. I buy family cards from the dollar store. I did buy a lot of cards in the UK as their cards are a whole lot nicer and cheaper than ours here in Canada. Below are my two favourite cards that I received this year and both are from the UK.
Do you send Christmas cards? How do you keep track on who has sent you and who you send too?
Do you think sending cards, whether it is Christmas, birthday, anniversary is a thing of the past?

I haven’t sent cards in years. Although I do give them to friends I see all the time.
I do send Christmas cards and sometimes write down who sends a card to me. I think the price of stamps and the rise of email makes sending Christmas cards a little less likely to happen. I, too, have a stash that I buy on sale, at yard sales, thrift stores or wherever.
For years I collected my Christmas cards, and used them in January to make new ones for the following Christmas. Last year in retirement we sent far fewer cards (many had been "work related) I had lots left. This year we decided not to post any, and the stamp money went to the FoodBank. I posted two, to elderly relatives (housebound, not on the Internet) and hand delivered to all our neighbours in the close (again, almost all elderly & housebound) I've been recycling cards this month to write thank you notes! We used to receive 150+ cards - now down to less than 20. But I'm not sure where to display them in this small bungalow anyway - they all went into a pretty box on the coffee table.
My mom sends out, yes! But less and less do get sent, folks just now text or call, or email. I love Papyrus ones too but over here they are indeed too expensive. 10 cards from them will run you $60 before you know it. I got 16 cards from Dollarama this year and didn't even use them all up!
Every year I send fewer cards it seems and receive less as well. I use one of the online greeting card companies and if I know a person's email address I send them an online greeting. The cards we do receive get kept until the next Christmas and then I cut them apart and use the pictures as 'to and from' tags on gifts. Seeing who we received a card from the previous year makes it easier to downsize the list for the next year.
We don't send Christmas cards, but we do still send things like birthday cards. I keep blank stationery cards on hand, and we use those for all occasions. Our kids write in them, and they are usually more entertaining than anything the card makers could have put inside.
I didn't get many Christmas cards this time, mainly just from family and some neighbours, I didn't send many out either. I have a small stash of cards so no need to buy any other than special ones. I think It's something that the older generation do, I don't think young people bother with Christmas cards anymore.
Haven't done cards in years. I typically do the online Jacqui Lawson cards for close friends and family.
I received 1 card this year, 1 less than last year LOL.
Yes, I do think so, but I still do it for every holiday, a cheer you up,etc. I love getting a card so I send them and the last one was a dirty ditty and my cousin called to thank me for the laughter after his surgery. It hurt to laugh he said, but my doctors and nurses found it hysterical too. So,you see people do like getting them! Email is so impersonal to me. It's like no one put an effort forth. But that's just me. I know everyone does it and I have to accept it. I just won't do it.
I send Christmas cards to the UK, not as many as I use to, also to friends in Ontario I don't see often, local friends get a personal visit or a call. E-mails are so impersonal, don't like getting greetings via them so don't send any.
Have not bought any greeting cards for a long time, using up a stash which keeps getting larger due to charitable organizations sending them. The postage for the overseas is getting expensive, so might cut down this year.
In my "Christmas Card Book" I write down who I send to and received from, also delete those who have passed and who have had a change of address.
I received a Christmas card this morning, posted on Dec. 2, 2022, from girl friend in the UK, must have come via the slow boat to China.
I correspond and send B-day cards to my family especially the little ones, they like getting a letter addressed to them in the mail box.
Ah, Excel. Fortunately I rarely use it.
I do send Christmas cards but it's getting less and less each year. Immediate family and a couple of friends are the only ones who get birthday cards.
Sadly it is a dying tradition. Years ago in England I would send and receive as many as one hundred cards at Christmas. This year I sent 35 and received 15. My kids and grand kids do not send cards and only one nephew sends them but I send out cards to them every year regardless. Other folks it's two strikes and your out! If I don't get one back two years running they get taken off the list. I am so becoming my mother lol. I was mortified years ago when she told me she keeps a list and ticks off who she got cards back from. Now Other than close family I do the exact same. Every year I say this will be the last year but every year I send them out. But as stated above I am down to 35 now.
I am sending less and less every year, and receiving fewer each year as well. If I get a card from someone I make sure I send one back.
God bless.
I sent 23 cards and got 15 in return. As a former military family, that is our last vestige of communication for many.
I agree the UK cards are so so much nicer. I make a family card with photos but try to source good cards for my Mum. Sometimes I find UK ones here.
I send whether I receive or not, some people just don't do Christmas cards. I send out about 60-70 each year - buying stamps through the year - and receive about 25-30 ish? Sometimes more. I have friends who do cards every other year or every third year too.
I love sending and receiving cards. I hope the tradition doesn't go away.
Hello, first visit here. Yes, I still send cards, and keep the ones received to know who to send to next year. But I always send to my very large family even if I get no card in return. I pick up new cards at thrifts and yard sales but like you have a large stash and won't need to buy any for years.
By the way, don't overlook West Virginia in your travel plans. Lots to see here, especially if you're into nature.
It's probably been ten years since we sent out a substantial number of Christmas cards. For a while they would go to older members of the family, who have sadly all passed away.
I hope it's not a thing of the past (sending cards) because I make and sell them! (And yes, it's not as lucrative as five-ten years ago). I send lots of cards. I do track from whom I receive them but I don't necessarily "cross someone off the list" if I don't hear from them. Some I send to just can't anymore and others might have challenges. So, I look at it and think it through. When I'm done I alphabetize them, list them in my Christmas journal and then keep some for art inspiration, some for the photos.
