Rather embarrassing but funny all the same

I was in Collingwood on Tuesday with dh and we were walking down the main street.  There is a Tim Horton's coffee shop there and the blinds were pulled down quite a bit as the sun must have been shining on the patrons.

At the bottom of one blind we could see a guy sitting there and we saw this:

he wasn't a plumber though!!!  Both me and dh were laughing at this, and I decided the people who read my blog would just love a photo of this!!!!  Unbeknown to me though, the people sitting on the opposite side of this guys table could see us and figured out what we were laughing about, as the next thing I know the guy is standing up and adjusting himself.

Me, well I walked on sharpish just in case he wanted a word!!!!

Then on Wednesday, when we were driving out of a Tim Hortons parking lot.......yes, I should have shares in Tim Hortons at the moment!!!  I saw this person wearing a very short denim skirt with their back to me.  I immediately noticed their legs and how odd and muscular they were.

So I said to dh, "those are weird legs."

At that point this person turned around, and before I knew what I was saying, I said

"and they have a weird face to match!!"

Dh told me off for being cruel while he was laughing, but even he had to admit, they wouldn't have needed much make up for Halloween.

Now if you have noticed I have not said he or she, have I?  I initially thought this person was a female, as yes the person was wearing a short denim skirt, but in all honesty, when I saw the face I had my doubts.........

Now Jane will not be at all shocked by either of these stories as I seem to attract or find the strangest of people.  However honestly these are true stories............wonder who I will meet on Thursday when we go to the market at St. Jacobs??

Steam Cleaner Part Two....

Decided to use the small machine to clean the stone on the fireplace.  Before:
After:
I'll be honest you can't really tell the difference but it did bring a fair bit of soot off the stones and I am pleased with the results, and again I got a lovely facial from the steam!!!

I did call the company and speak to them and the lady seemed very nice, as I was concerned I wouldn't be able to find more pads for the bottom of the machine.  They sell them in packs of three for $20 and $15 shipping and no you can't go and pick them up if you're in the Oshawa area......I asked!!  Here is the link for the company.

In yesterday's post I said these guys would be at the Barrie Home Show.  The lady didn't know anything about that, but she did say they would be at the Toronto Home Show from September 20th to 23rd.  Not sure if they will have the same deal as I got but I'm guessing so.

Dh is off this week, so we're having a day out today, which I'll post about tomorrow.

I was really happy on Sunday

why?  Well dh and I managed to get some more jobs done in the basement, which was good.  My goal is to have the basement completely finished by Christmas......now whether that happens remains to be seen, as I can see it costing another $1,000 to finish.

Also another reason was that as dh pointed out, my new cleaning tool is working a charm.  On Saturday I purchased this steam cleaner:
As part of the package I got the mini cleaner and a pack of three pads for free:
I am really pleased with how they work.  They clean using water and steam, so no chemicals which is a good thing.  The large machine I used to clean floors and carpets, that's what the green thing is on the first photo, you attach that when you want to clean the carpets.  I also took off the handle and used the large machine to clean the shower.

The smaller machine I used in the bathroom, in the shower to clean in places where the big machine wouldn't go.  Mind you with all that steam I also gave myself a facial as well!!!  Will say that smaller machine is not for the faint of heart, as you have to be careful with it, as that steam is hot.  I will be keeping the smaller machine in my bathroom, and the larger one downstairs to be used mainly on the floors and rugs.

Now I have to say I was in two minds about posting these next two photos, as it looks as though I never clean and live in a pig sty.  However on the plus side, it does show you these steam cleaners do work.

The first photo shows the pad after I had cleaned the downstairs floors and a couple of rugs:
Now if you thought that was bad, this one was after I had cleaned the shower, the upstairs floors and the stairs:
I'm telling you I was shocked as well.  I am going to steam the fireplace stones and see what happens there, as that is no doubt filthy as well.

Anyhow, what I do know is that the machine does do its job and I am happy with it so far.

Top or bottom first?

Saturday morning, we decided to go to The Garden Gallery in Barrie, as they were having a home show and it was free admission!!!

We stopped on the way there for a Timmies..........you know you're a fully fledged Canadian when you can't go anywhere without popping to Tim Hortons for a coffee and a donut or muffin.

I had a medium coffee with one cream and two milk and a raspberry muffin:

Just out of curiosity, do you eat the top or the bottom of your muffin first?  I eat the bottom first and leave the top for last, as that's the best bit in my opinion.
As we were wandering through the garden centre, we stumbled upon this Christmas tree all decked out for Halloween. Never seen anything like it before?

Then there was this Christmas tree all decked out in fall flowers:

At this rate we'll be keeping our Christmas trees up year round!!!!

I need more people visiting the house.....

Why, because it makes me clean the house!!!!  I have someone coming for lunch today, so on Thursday I was busy cleaning the family room.  The coffee table was over flowing.  Here is the before:

And here is the after:

Still got a lot more cleaning to do, but it was a good start.

I dug our first potatoes out of the garden to make a potato salad, they were good.   Also finally cooked the beets that Cindy gave me the other week........I know Cindy I was lucky they didn't go bad, but I kept them in the fridge since I got them.  Cleaned out the fruit in the fridge and made a fresh fruit salad, the recipe is here.

Had bought three chicken breasts with bones in, skin on.  So ttok two of them off the bone and flattened them out to and stuffed them.  The other chicken breast along with the bones I poached in water.  We had the stuffed breasts on Thursday night, and the cold cooked chicken will be good with more salad and homemade bread tonight.  Although time consuming it feels good to prepare things from scratch.

This week's "Home of the Week," is very nice, but very expensive.  Hard to believe it's just short of $5 million, but the property taxes are over $31, 000 a year.  Who on earn can afford that?  It has seven bathroom's which is a little strange for a four bedroom house, don't you think?  Love the back yard and thought the light fixture on the upstairs landing was interesting.  If I was given it and someone else paid the property taxes I wouldn't say no to this one!!!

This week's "Cottage of the Week," is great; however the price tag isn't, as at $1.6 million that's way overpriced.  It actually looks like a cottage, though I would get rid of the astro turf/artificial grass looking carpet in the porch and the dining room!!!  But hey that's just me........  Perfect getaway if you had the time, money and the energy!!!

The "Condo of the Week," is actually nice, but not for me.  Also at just under $2 million I could never afford it.  However if you have a high flying career and entertain a lot this place is perfect for you.  Love the views and it's not too far from downtown.  Though by the comments they are saying it is too far west of the city for true city people.  I could honestly imagine myself sitting on the balcony watching the world go by on the water.

Update on baby shower progress..

On Saturday we went down to dd and my job was to label the invitations.  Let's just say I didn't do the first one right..........well not to dd precise instructions!!!!  I swear one of these days my eyes are going to be stuck in the back of my head, the amount of times I roll my eyes at her.  I thought it was children/teens who did it to their parents not the other way around...LOL

Anyhow, here is a peek at the front of the invitation; can't show you the rest as there is too much information on it, that we don't need the Internet trolls to see!!!  Got the invitations from here.

Here is the back of it:

Had to buy cupcake liners as I am making 6 dozen cupcakes, three flavours.  So took advantage of a 50% off coupon at Michael's and dragged dh along for the hell of it.  He hates Michael's.  I thought I was safe with brown and cream ones......

I had to cut up these labels for the water bottles.........yes we are having personalized water bottle labels.......it's the little details dd says that matters!! Yes, but guess who has to remove the original labels from the water bottles and glue on these ones?  Yep, that would be me!!!

I picked up some more cups, saucers and tea plates.  I got these two for $1.75 for the pair:

I got this set for $5 and it includes 4 of cups, saucers, tea plates, dinner plates and bowls.

For the floral centre pieces on the tables, I have picked up 32 random glasses that I paid $4 for.  Will put them in threes on the table and pop flowers in each of them.

I'm not sure if I have told you this, but one of dd good friend's is getting married next year and they are having a garden party wedding.  So any china and glassware that is leftover I am giving to her for her wedding reception.  So nothing is going to waste and when she is finished with it, she will donate it back to the charity shop.

I hate to say for all my whining, dd should be a party planner as she thinks of everything, and she is right it's the little details that matter.  Right now dd and her best friend are into making felt flowers to go on the wrapping paper for presents as an extra bit of embelishment.............I know I should have named her Martha!!!!

Just published a couple of book reviews, here.

Sorry.........

I haven't posted sooner..........I have no idea where the last few days have gone too?

Been busy since I last posted.

Saturday: spent most of the day down at dd.  I was doing baby shower prep stuff for dd, while dd and the guys were hanging doors.

Sunday:  Dh and I ran around doing errands and preventing dh from doing any work down the basement, as his knee was sore from working too hard on Saturday!!

Monday: Dh and I installed the door frames down our basement and put up the doors.  Have a double closet and the door from the main room into the laundry room.  Dh carried on down there doing other stuff and tidying up, while I baked in the afternoon.  Then we both sat down for a bit; I was reading.

Tuesday:  I put the first coat of paint on the walls and then had to pop into town to buy another gallon of paint.

Today: Well I will be heading down the basement to put another coat of paint on the walls and to prime the patio door and window frame as well.

Will say have had a hell of a headache these past few days, but we had a lot of rain yesterday and its humid around here, so that will do it.  I will try and get back into posting again, just want to get this painting over with.

Thanks for all you comments..........

Gill
