Update on dh............

For those of you who are my friends on Facebook, you know the first part of this story.

On Sunday dh was cleaning out the flower beds on top of the retaining walls ready for us to mulch it all.  We have decided it's easier doing this than me constantly asking the gardeners to weed them.  The wall is close to four feet tall.  Normal people would use a ladder to go up and down, but not my dh.  On his way down he tripped over his feet and fell from the top of the wall.  He fell on his left side and did the most damage to his arm and wrist:

Fast forward to Wednesday and I have been putting an antiseptic cream, gauze and bandage over it for when he is at work and overnight and despite that it was weeping yellow pus.  Plus his hand was so swollen that you could barely see his knuckles.  So he went to the doctors and got some antibiotics for the swelling and pus and had an x-ray on his hand.  Pleased to say it is not fractured and just very swollen.

Hopefully he has learned from this!

Beautiful sky when we were out and about.

Not all work, some play also......

Dh is on vacation this week.  We have been busy doing odds and ends.  Dh was feeling sore after some of the jobs he has been doing, so we took the morning off and ran some errands.  We ended up going to Stayner for lunch.  I took this photo of the main street when we were in the car.  It has some pretty decorative old buildings.  There are a number of businesses closing down or have closed down.  It's such a shame.
The day was gorgeous and the wispy clouds in the sky were lovely despite the power lines.

When we got home, it was back to normal.  We cleaned out the shed and dh took a truck load of garbage to the dump, while I cut some grass.  We're having a day outside again today to get more outside jobs done while the weather is nice.

What are you up to today?

Still sick, but heading out to town........

though I honestly think if you're sick you should stay at home and keep the germs to yourself, don't you?

However I have a bit of banking to do, that requires me to go to the teller and sort things out face to face.  I would wear a mask if I had one, but I don't so will have to make sure I don't breath on him/her!!!  So I am heading to Alliston for that, then turning around and going to Shelburne for a bunch of other things.

It's funny but I COULD if pressed do everything in one town, but I prefer some services in one town over the other and I think it's worth my time and energy to go to both towns to do certain things, as I know I can get them done simply, if that makes sense?

Seems as though there was a possibility a tornado that touched down up the road last night, there is more about it here in the scheme of things that's nothing to what has been happening to our neighbours in the States.  They have certainly had a run of bad luck this past week.

It's short and sweet today, as I have to attempt to do a bit more today as long as I can breath and move at the same time.  I am like a fish with its mouth open at the moment, as I can't breath through my nose!!!

Also I have posted another book review here.

More photos from last week's" Ladies who Lunch" outing

(THIS POST WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR THURSDAY, BUT I POSTED IT TODAY BY ACCIDENT!!)

Bet you thought I had forgotton about them!!!  Just had other things to post about, but finally found a slot.

Jane and I called in at a store called Kiki LaRuse.  With a name like that is sounds a bit kinky to me, how about you?  It wasn't though and the lady was super nice in there.

I thought this was a lamp at first, but couldn't see the lightbulb.  Turns out to be a piece of art.  Nice but useless don't you think?
The samll lamp on the wood block was not part of the original piece.

I LOVED the fabric combinations of these pouches and thought of you Carla.

Some more art work, love the bottom picture:
I adore poppies, so this picture caught my eye as well.

The store features local and Canadian artists, all things are hand made and the store is in Orillia.  They do not have a web site, but do have an email if anyone wants it?

Today's Christmas song is just lovely:

Top or bottom first?

Saturday morning, we decided to go to The Garden Gallery in Barrie, as they were having a home show and it was free admission!!!

We stopped on the way there for a Timmies..........you know you're a fully fledged Canadian when you can't go anywhere without popping to Tim Hortons for a coffee and a donut or muffin.

I had a medium coffee with one cream and two milk and a raspberry muffin:

Just out of curiosity, do you eat the top or the bottom of your muffin first?  I eat the bottom first and leave the top for last, as that's the best bit in my opinion.
As we were wandering through the garden centre, we stumbled upon this Christmas tree all decked out for Halloween. Never seen anything like it before?

Then there was this Christmas tree all decked out in fall flowers:

At this rate we'll be keeping our Christmas trees up year round!!!!

Been busy reading!!!

Yep, just wasted a couple days of my life reading the "Fifty Shades of Grey," Trilogy.  I reviewed it here on my Book Review blog.  I hear they have sold the film rights (not sure if that's the right term) for the books.  I would love to know how on earth they will make that movie without it being a full blown "porn," movie?   Not that I will be seeing it as I don't go to the movies.

Anyhow, it has been a good time to catch up on reading as it has been too hot and humid for me.  Monday I never left the house, and although I did venture into town yesterday it was just a quick couple of stops and straight back home.

Now today I am going out and about, as I am meeting Jane again in Orillia.  I'll remember to take my camera and take photos.  Orillia is around half way for both Jane and I.  So check back in tomorrow for a full account of how we got on!!!

My apologies for not visiting blogs these past couple of days, will catch up later in the week,

Gill

Flaps down type of day.......

Thursday although sunny was flipping cold in the wind.  Dh was off work for the day so after he was finished with his appointment we were out and about running errands.  We were shocked to see a lot of people wandering around in shorts and t-shirts, didn't think it was that warm.

We called in at Garden Gallery in Barrie and I bought three window boxes.  The only problem is they have to be brought in each night, as its too cool on a night yet.

002
I also bought a poppy as they are one of my favourite flowers especially the bright red ones.

008
We also called in at a store in Alliston called Details and got this clock to put in the garage.

011
When we got home I finished off the field and must say from a distance it looks pretty good, however close up there is more weed than grass.........just as well the weeds are also green!!!

003
Going to be busy over the next few days, so if I don't get chance to post, have a super weekend.  If you're curious about what a "Flap's Down" Type of Day is check out this post and this post.

All bark and no action.........

That's what our daft dog is all about.  She was sitting in her usual place waiting for the squirrels when she started to growl; then she started barking, so I popped my head up and our resident coyote was wandering past in the field behind us.
If it's the same one that was visiting us last year, it's fairly grown.  I went out on the back deck to take a couple of photos, and Molly came after me, barking up a storm.
Notice how her tail is stuck up in the air.  She looks as though she has put a lot of weight on, but she is on double the steroids that she was on last year, and she is still scratching.  Oh and I guess it could be lack of exercise on both Molly's and my part as well!!!!  Will say the coyote seemed pretty bemused about Molly barking up a storm and wandered off out of the way and probably for a bit of peace and quiet!!!!  It could have been worse, Molly could have been howling!!

Sunday was a very overcast and dreary day.  Took this photo around 7pm when we saw a little bit of sun:
When we were out in the truck we saw a lot of fields all ploughed and ready for crops.  This photo is looking towards the hills south of Creemore:
A quiet day around here, how was your Sunday?

My dream tractor and a Pig BBQ

Now that we are "penniless" entertainment has to be cheap!!!!  On Saturday our local town had a home show on.  We have been before and it is nothing special but generally interesting, and entrance is by donation.  All donation's go to our local hospital foundation, so that makes it worth while in my opinion.

While we were there we popped by the John Deere stand and there was my dream tractor.
The marvelous thing about this tractor, you do not have to get off the tractor to take off the bucket or put the grass cutter back on.  There are controls on the tractor that you drive over the grass cutter, lower something, it grabs the grass cutter and clips/hooks it on.  There is only one little issue with this, and that's the price.........it costs the same as my new car..............hhhhmmmmmm.......was it a good decision buying the car, when I could have had this tractor????

I also saw this:
It's a BBQ, can't say it's something I would want, but it's fun to look at I guess.  There was some neat wood pellet grills there by Traeger that I had never seen before.  I am not a huge fan of BBQ-ing, and dh doesn't cook period, but this seemed like a neat and environmentally friendly system.  In Canada the smallest system was around $500 CDN.

We also talked to a couple of local roofing people, as we HAVE to replace the garage roof by the Fall.......so have to start saving for that next.  We also found a place where we can buy the supplies so we can maintain our water softener ourselves, saving us at least $100 a year.  Home Hardware were also there and were giving out $10 off coupons when you spend $50 so that will also come in handy at some point as well.

So all in all a very informative couple of hours spent there and it will hopefully help us save some money in the long run.

What's your best source of cheap entertainment?

A bit of advice for y'all.......

Gosh that's a case of "Southern Drawl" if there ever was one......

Anyway back to my advise.  Don't join a line/queue, until you know what they are lining up for....

On Saturday dh actually had a day off....YEAH for dh!!  So we headed to Barrie for the Barrie Home and Garden show.  Never been there before, either to the Home Show or to that venue.  Pretty easy to find, and when we get there, we see that people are already lining up to get in.  So of course we join that line.  Meanwhile it wasn't that warm standing out there without my jacket on, so dh went back to the truck to get it.  A woman came to stand next to me and we started talking.  Turns out she hadn't been to the show either, so we are discussing this and that.

I wondered if there was another entrance to the home show and then the woman in front of us says this is the line up for the wrestling tickets???  What wrestling, we were looking for the Home Show, which turned out to be at the other side of the building!  So off we set off to the other side of the building; did notice though there were a number of other people leave that line up as well, so we were not the only dim wits there!!

We are used to going to the Toronto Home Show, this was not a patch on the Toronto Home Show.  We had looked at everything within 35 minutes.  The only good thing about the whole situation was that the first 125 people through the door, got a $10 gift card each for Rona, which in turn paid for a can of varnish I wanted.  Oh and we wanted a couple of things out of Home Depot, and I got to call into the quilting store in Cookstown on the way home.  So it wasn't a totally wasted day.

Temperature was above freezing again, but we still have plenty of snow.  You would think it was spring here with the warm temperatures, however we won't say too much at the moment, as next thing we'll be dumped on again with another foot of snow!!!

Have church again today.....I am getting a little worried about what the reverend will talk about, as he has an uncanny knack of talking about something that is so relevant to me.  It's as though he can read my mind....scary!

Did you remember to put your money in your Daily Savings Pot?

Today's Money Saving Tip:

Learn from your past experiences. Of course, each one of has his "low" times because of the fact that we don't have the necessary funds to pay for our needs. Instead of fussing over our predicament, let' stop for a while and contemplate why we got into our present financial mess. Remember that problem is success turned inside out. Let's not cry over spilled milk, let's rather spend our time on conceptualizing solutions to our problems.

Busy day on Saturday and a Happy Valentine's Day....

We're not big on Valentine's Day in this house.  I will give dh a card but that's about it, and he will probably give me the same.  He has to work today, but will hopefully be home by mid-afternoon.

We had a busy day on Saturday.  Dh worked on putting the baseboard up in the closet.  Bit more complicated than normal as he had to join pieces and deal with other issues.

I did my usual morning chores, of doing the ironing, cleaning out the fire, bringing in the logs, picking up the poop and feeding the birdies.  Below are a couple of photos of Northern Cardinals.  The first one is a male and female pair.

Below is the male Northern Cardinal.
I then finished machine quilting the table topper, and cutting out and joining the binding for the table topper.  I just have to sew it on now.

After a lunch of cheese and cucumber sandwiches; it's ages since we have had cheese and cucumber sandwiches and they were good; we went to the city to run some errands.

I had ordered the closet organizer through the week, so we had to pick that up.  We also wanted to go to Lowes to check out a couple of things.  Glad we did as we were able to pick up some cordless Levolor  cellular shades like these that they custom cut to our sizes for only $58 a window.  There was also 15% off them as well.  I also got three spray cans of paint that covers rust, regularly $9 a can for just over $2 a can, in Hunter Green.  Not 100% sure what I will use that for, but I have a couple of projects in mind.  At that price you can't go wrong.

Got back home and dh did a little bit more in the closet, still a ways to go though.

Molly meanwhile was lying on the newly upholstered ottoman.  She looks depressed doesn't she....................though maybe not, it's her usual expression...LOL
When I was talking with Karine's mother on Friday, she though Molly may be a Beagle/Spaniel mix and I think she may be right, what do you think?

We are half way through the month, did you remember to put your money in your Daily Saving Pot today?

Today's Money Saving Tip:

When in a store, always check out the clearance section, as you never know what you may find!!!  Also I am finding our hardware stores are carrying more and more blinds that they can custom cut to fit your windows at much cheaper prices than custom ordered blinds.  It's worth checking them out!!!  Make sure you get an employee that can use the cutting machines properly though, as it easy for them to make a mess of the cutting. We originally bought blinds from Home Depot, and they made a mess of the blinds, she didn't make a straight cut and they were crooked, and we had to return them!!!

Out and about, with photos........

Dh was off on Saturday. So he worked in the attic putting more insulation in there in the morning, while I talked on the phone, and then went grocery shopping and to the library.....I know, what a help I am to dh!!!

After lunch we then went to Barrie as I had to go to the dreaded Wal-Mart!! I called into Michael's as well and managed not to purchase anything.......well done me. Then on the front of the Mark's Work Wearhouse flyer this week, there was a $10 off coupon, when you spend $10 or more.........so we got dh a new travel mug, and instead of paying $13 + taxes, I paid under $4 incl taxes, go to love that!!

On the on ramp to the highway I took this photo of the Canadian Flag, thought it was neat with the sun behind it:

We pass Georgian Downs race track and slots on the way to and from Barrie, never been in it before, not a gambler.

We passed through Cookstown and I took this photo from the car of a decorated Christmas tree:

I have yet to stop in Cookstown and look at the stores. It apparently has a really good quilting store there......maybe that's why I haven't stopped, as I need more material like a hole in the head!!

This farmhouse is on the outskirts of Alliston and I just love it. Maybe ours will look as good one day?

We pass this house on the way too and from Alliston. Yes you are seeing right, the place is full of hearses!! There was a pink one, a purple one, and now there is the old fashioned ambulance sitting there, which dh loves and wants.......over my dead body!!!

I feel so sorry for the next door neighbours as they are trying to sell their house, and it has been up for sale for as long as we have lived here!!! Who on earth would want to live next door to that?

The sun was just gorgeous on Saturday and was like a big fireball in the sky. Here are a couple of photos, as with all the photos, they were taken from the van:
