Our clothes dryer has not been working properly for a while now. The error messages were coming up more frequently, so had to throw in the towel and buy a new one. We also decided that having one delivered in the summer was easier than waiting until the colder weather appears. It's more or less the same one as the last one as other than it this one works!! LOL
One of the biggest issues with dyers, is making sure you clean out the vent both inside the dryer and the vent going to the outside to prevent fires. We had bought this kit from Amazon that attaches to a power drill and it works a treat.
We cleaned it out before we hooked up the new dryer and this is what came out of the vent. It was pretty clean, so was happy with that. Plus it's an easier job to do when it's not freezing cold and covered in snow, so a summer job!!
So clean out your dryer vent before it gets too cold out.

Both my clothes dryer vent and furnace filter were cleaned out one day last week by the building maintenance man. Hardly anything in the dryer and none in the furnace as I have only used it a couple of times while living hear.
This work is done on a yearly basis in the apartments.
I worry about our dryer vent. It goes through the roof. Your kit seems like it would be just the thing to use! Our vent at our previous home vented straight out the wall to the outside. That one kept getting clogged. We discovered that whoever installed it left the instructions inside the vent! Doh!
I had to buy a new washer and dryer last year. They just don't last like they used to.
Many moons ago, when I had two babies under two, I had a dryer.
In the winter it never stopped. I had traditional cloth nappies.
Once the kids grew I found that I never used the dryer at all. It was just too expensive.
I put it out front and it was gone before I could blink. It was still working so someone got a bargain. I hope they really needed it.
Nowadays my house looks like a Chinese laundry. I have clothes horses draped with all the washing drying. The fire is going anyway so I might as well get more bang for my buck.
Good information Gill and something that everyone should be aware of and doing. I remind my kids periodically. Apartment life means we don't have to worry about it and I know the maintenance person keeps on top of it.
I have seen a number of house fires started by a dryer when I was a volunteer fireman/woman...no fun. Another tip is to take out your lint filter and wash it with soap and water as fabric softners cause a layer of stuff on the filter.
