I know a book is good.....

when I can't put it down.  I wish I could say the same for the book I am reading at the moment.

"Yours is the Night," by Amanda Dykes

I guess it doesn't help it is set in World War I; I'm not a huge fan of books set during World War I & II.  Add in the fact that each chapter is told from a different character's view point, I am finding it hard to immerse myself into the story.

I am so lucky I get to chose 4 books every other month to review, so it's not like I am given whatever the company tells me to read.  They are my choice; but for some reason this time my choice of books has been way off!!

When reading a book I don't want it to feel like a chore, this book is feeling that way.  I will say I can count on one hand the times I have not finished a book for review.  I always send in an explanation if I don't want to read it.

Sometimes I guess what a book sounds like on the preview and what it's actually like doesn't match?

When reading a book do you carry on reading it, if you don't like the book regardless?  Personally life is too short to be wasting my time on books I don't like; but in this case I will finish it off, as I would like to know the final outcome.

I tend to speed up and skim read, or just set it aside and make a mental note not to try any more by that author. That might mean I miss some good reads, mind you.

If I find myself struggling to read a book, I give it the first 100 pages. I figure if it hasn't gotten any better by then, then it isn't going to.

I give a book 10% of the total pages. If I don’t feel like I care about the characters or the story, I put it down.

I've occasionally given up on a book.

At the moment I'm reading a novel about the Battle of Midway.

I don’t read the rest after a couple of chapters if I don’t like it. There to many other books I could be reading. Hugs,

I used to finish what I started...say 99% of the time. No more. There are too many good books to waste time on something I dont enjoy.

Tulips and Daffodils.........

The tulips are out in full bloom now, whereas the daffodils, are starting to die off.  Here are some photos of them from my garden on Tuesd...
