In Canada coffee shops are ten a penny in every town and city. Whether it's a large chain shop or a small independent coffee shop. A lot of Canadians cannot function in a morning without their coffee shop coffee. One of the best known and very popular coffee shops is Tim Horton's.
So when there was a survey asking Canadians to vote for their favourite brand of coffee, you would think that the number one spot would go to Tim Horton's? It turns out the number one brand is McDonald's, McCafe. and I for one am in agreement. I find Timmies (as that is what we locals call Tim Horton's) is much too strong for me and has a bitter after taste. I will drink it in a push. I cannot stand Starbucks at all, that is way, way too strong.
We occasionally go to Coffee Culture, but more times than enough I end up having a tea there. McDonald's has come a long way in the past few years with their brand. I will say I did not like the McDonald's coffee in the States, they use a different brand. Here is a link to show you want we can get at McDonald's McCafe.

I did enjoy the milky coffee's that you get in Britain, they are the best too my mind. In the States I liked Dunkin Donuts the best. I take my coffee with just 2 milk. How do you take your coffee?
I am a British born, living in Canada since May of 1989. My blog is about all aspects of my daily life.

I have only had Tim Horton's a couple of time, but I am in total agreement about the Mac Coffee. To me it is the best coffee value in town and has a really great taste.
I like my coffee with milk too. I usually get a Misto at Starbucks.
I agree timmies is way too strong and macdonalds the best. i do like timmies earl grey coffee. i take mine black
I have one coffee in the morning with my breakfast and it is with milk. Do not visit coffee shops often and when I do, its usually a tea for me.
As coffee goes, McD is def. my favorite too. I sure wish I could get a decent cuppa when out and about. We only have one dedicated "tea shop" in our town, but it's in a spa and you have to book ahead, no dropping in for a quiet sit down and a simple cuppa, y'know. I carry tea bags in my purse, you just never know when some hot water might appear!
I'm not a coffee drinker, but am amazed at how many people line up at the take out windows in the morning or walk around with a cup in their hands.
I don't go into Tims or McDonalds, actually. I have little taste for coffee, and don't really care for doughnuts anyway.
100% with you and the results of the survey. The flavour at McD's is much more palatable compared to Timmies. Do you think Timmies is listening? I hope so, 'cause there is one right across the street from my home.... just opened in August. But I appreciate also, the free small cup at McD's usually available in Nov. and the sticker on the side of the cup which will give me a free medium after 7. JMHO!
Actually I'm not surprised. I have a MacDonald's close by and they often have weeks when they will give you a small coffee for free. I was tempted by the price :) and really enjoy their coffee!
My husband is a coffee snob! He's in charge of buying it and perking it!
It's been years since I have had coffee from a coffee shop. I have my two cups here at home usually Nabob or Maxwell House and I am well satisfied.
I have heard though that McDonalds does make a very good cup of coffee.
God bless.
We visited the US for the first time in 2011 ( from Australia) and were disappointed that, at that time any way, Maccas ( Aussie slang for MacDonalds) didn't have McCafes like we enjoyed here...and which had decent coffee. The ordinary Maccas coffee is awful ! On our 2015 visit we didn't bother with McDonalds, but on the Vancouver part of that trip we did go to Tim Hortons...a champion hockey player turns coffee shop chain; that intrigued me! Lol
I don't drink coffee at all - I'm a tea nut. The Tazo teas at Starbucks just don't do it for me, and I have to say Timmie's makes a mean steeped tea (I know - ALL tea is steeped!). My favourite. I don't go to McD's just in principle but have heard the raves about the coffee. Enjoy! x
I have mine black and sugarless. We have an independent cafe in town which serves fresh coffee and a toasted teacake for £1.80. I go there while my husband is doing a 5k parkrun each Saturday. It's my treat to myself each week and I enjoy it very much; great service, steaming hot coffee and a delicious buttery toasted teacake!
Haven't heard of Tim Hortons but I think it sounds like my kind of coffee. I hate Mc Donalds stuff their coffee here is gruesome but as Maria said In Oz it's great! In fact every cup of coffee I had in Australia & New Zealand was great. Starbucks isn't nice either too bitter. Unless you can find a really good coffee shop then it's hard to get a decent cup of coffee in the US, mostly it's hideous stewed filter stuff.
In the UK I tend to go for Costa (who make Italian style coffee), M&S or the little individual tea shops who (if they have a proper Italian coffee maker) usually make fabulous coffee.
