And Molly went walkabout!

Here she is laying in the sun, thinking about her weekend........

On the weekend, we went to dd and son-in-law's to lay hardwood floors and do other jobs around their new home.

As we were away 12 hours each day, we took Molly along with us.  Will say by the time we were on our way home on Sunday, Molly settled into the whole going in the car thing, and even laid down and fell asleep around 15 minutes from home!!!

One thing Molly loved about dd home is that it has a fenced back yard.  So she was allowed to go outside without being on leash.  She had a whale of a time and was busy sniffing around for ages.  So I let her out Sunday afternoon and was reading the paper.........by this time I had appointed myself "Supervisor!!"

Dh and son-in-law come in the front door saying have you lost something.......here dh was carrying Molly.  The story went like this:

Neighbour (2 doors down): Have you lost a dog?

Dh: No

Neighbour: we have found a Beagle cross called Molly......

Dh: Oh, that's our dog.

Dh and son-in-law wander over to the house, shouting for Molly to come.  Molly in turn completely ignored them!!!

Neighbour: is she pregnant?
Dh: no it's the pills she's on.  She has allergies, and that's why she has no hair on her tail........

As I said to dh, someone has to love Molly, despite her looking pregnant and having no hair on her tail and her completely ignoring you when you call her, and that someone is us!!!!

They said they had called the telephone number on her tags.  We always have her collar on other than during the night, as the tags rattle.  What nice neighbours they were.

Oh and before I forget, yes she decided to christen dd and son-in-laws house by peeing inside, flaming dog, thank goodness it was on the old floor and not on the new hardwood......  

Also, we got Molly around 3 years ago, so she must be around 8 years old now.

Forgot to say, the gate to the garden was not completely closed, so Molly nudged it open with her nose.  She does the same with the screen door at home...........she's an escape artist!!

An emotional and weepy day........

It was an emotional and weepy day for me on Friday.  The friend we went to see in hospital last weekend, passed away at 4pm on Friday.  The only blessing in all of this is he is out of pain now.  

On a bit brighter note, not by much mind you!!  For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you will remember last November when my mam, step-father and brother came over here for dd wedding, that my step-father was rushed into hospital with chest pains, I wrote about it here.

He ended up having open heart surgery at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle on July 13th, to replace a valve.  During or just after the operation he had a stroke.  So that has set things back a bit.  The heart operation was a success and he is recovering well from that, now he has been moved back to a hospital in their home town and the medical staff are working on the stroke side of things.

He has movement in his left arm and leg albeit limited in his arm.  His speech is fine and he is expected to make a full or near full recovery.  It is just going to take time.  We are hoping he will only be in hospital another week or so.  Mind you as I said to my mam, she needs to make sure she has all her "ducks in a row," before they release him, and make sure all her "demands" are met, as after he is released the medical staff won't be as willing to provide things that they may need.  As once he's released it's not the hospital's responsibility.

So it's been a trying few weeks with that situation as well, made even worse when there is an ocean between us all.

We're at dd and son-in-laws house all weekend, so I will try and remember to take some photos, as there should be some changes by the end of the weekend.

Home of The Week and grocery shopping...

Have to say this weeks, "Home of the Week," is a huge improvement on last week's eyesore!!!  Love the master bathroom, although having to clean the flipping place would be a full days job.  Great poster in the kitchen!!!  Overall I wouldn't say no to it, even the playset in the garden is great.  Only wish I had the $3.5 million to buy it!!

Finally an actual cottage for this weeks "Cottage of the Week."  I am pretty indifferent about it though.  All I can think about is all the biting bugs with it being in the forest.  I do like the views though.  Not sure about the tent thing, although if you are going to camp out, that wouldn't be too bad!!!  What are your thoughts?

The "Condo of the Week," is very..........white and would drive me crazy trying to keep it clean.  Again it's okay but nothing I would really want to own if I could ever afford the $2.3 million price tag.  Great views and super terrace, but the bathrooms are too modern for my tastes.  Kitchen not bad though.  The whole idea that the garage turns into a car wash, very interesting.  I wonder if that is why the place costs so much?


As I had to go out and run some errands on Thursday, I also did some grocery shopping, picking up a number of reduced items.  All in all I spent $54.29 and had savings of $25.52.  The only things I didn't get was fresh fruit and veggies, but I have enough left over I think from the week before.


For anyone who gets the Toronto Star newspaper, there is a coupon on the back page of the entertainment section, for $5 off burgers at Foodland.  We like their burgers, so took advantage of that deal.  I think the coupon expires at the end of August.


My grocery budget for the month of August is $300; however there is five Friday's in the month, so it will be interesting to see if I can manage that.

Hip and Happening......

That's me......well actually they are my shoes, well as per our dd!!!  She actually liked them, which believe me is a first!!


I bought a couple pairs last month on sale.


I got this pair of Rieker-Antistress shoes.  They are so comfy and not my usual type of casual shoe.

Both dh and I love Clarks shoes and we took advantage of the sales to buy ourselves a pair of casual shoes each.  Mine are Privo by Clarks  Will say I have hardly worn them yet but so far so good.

Dh loves his "deck shoes," again so very comfy.

Do you have a favourite brand of shoes?

I got a free sample of Juicy Fruit Orange Creme Pop gum with my magazine.  It was actually nice and sweet and tasty.

I am not a gum chewing person and did find my jaw aching after a while.  Also one thing I hate is people chewing and blowing bubbles with gum in public.  Do you chew gum?

More teacups......

I picked up more teacups, saucers and side plates for the baby shower over the past few days.


I got seven place settings of this one, and paid $5 for them, which was a good deal, as it is a set by Mikasa.

I managed to pick up five sets of this one.

And three settings of this one; which along with the five above I paid $10 for.

So all in all I now have 27 sets and have paid $25 for them.  So slowly but surely I am collecting up what I need.

Here are some more photos from last week.  They are all taken down by the harbour front. That brown stuff should be grass.  Thanks to some much needed rain last week, it should look a bit greener, as my grass looked like that also.  I found this display to be very cheery, don't you think?

This was a closer look at one of the fishes.  Not sure what the plants are called to make them?

They had all these "boats" on display also.  The one in the front is a painting of the boat you can take a cruise on.  We have been on that boat and it was a lovely way to see the fine houses on the lake front and also very interesting.  There is more information here.

I have to say that Orillia really puts on an interesting display each year.  Also the hanging baskets were just gorgeous again.  It's really a lovely place to visit and a lot to see.  I know each time Jane and I go we discover something else.  Our next trip could/should be the end of this month, beginning of next, I think?

Also, where did the month of July go too?  It seems to have flown by?
