After spending a restless night at our son's (thank you son and DIL for putting us up for the night) we woke up and drove around to the new house to be greeted by the fact that it had snowed all night and the snow plow had been by and blocked in the driveway. We had hunted out the snow shovels from the van parked in son's driveway, but the snow blower was at the very back of the van {{{SIGH}}} We would be on hours digging out the end of the driveway. Luckily one of the neighbours was snow blowing out his driveway and came over to dig ours out. I could have kissed him..........and by the way I still owe him a small gift for doing that.
The house was luckily pretty clean as I think they had, had cleaners in. Son came around with the van and dh and him emptied the van out and took it back to the middle of nowhere. Son was supposed to be working that day, so he had to take another day off of work. Due to the mix up with the van in the first place we ended up getting the rental van for cheap despite us having it for a second day, which was a blessing.
I stayed at home while they took the van back, as the Rogers guy had to come by first thing and hook up the tv, internet and phones. That appointment had been booked in advance, and despite us still not "technically" owning the house at this point I didn't want to cancel the appointment. Quick side story to this. I ended up having to ring Rogers up after the tech guy left to tell them to press the button on their side so the tv (we put the tv's in our car to transport from the old house to the new house, lot safer) would work!!! The poor guy then got a lecture about not pressing buttons!!
The movers finally turned up around 3:30 pm and moved all our stuff in. We had shoveled the driveway and footpath in the hopes they wouldn't trail too much snow into the house. They did put runners down but honestly they were a total waster of time. I put some old towels on the floor to help soak up wet feet. They had, had a job in Toronto, so by the time they got to us they were tired. The same guys came back other than the guy who was the millionaire, another younger guy turned up to replace him. As I said yesterday every box was marked, but lets just say these guys were rough and as it was Friday they were in a hurry to get finished, To be fair though we were in a hurry to see them go as well!!
Meanwhile, we finally closed on the house around 10:30 am, as the sellers lawyer didn't start work until 10 am!! I will add that we finally got the official paperwork from the lawyers office the middle of March, it took them 4 MONTHS and a few emails to get them mailed to us. They too were hopeless!
It was a VERY long couple of day's that was stressful and one which I hope never to repeat. That should have been the end of it, but it wasn't. Tomorrow I'll tell you the sorrowful tale of the movers!!

Oh, dear. It all sounds a bit of a nightmare really.
xx
moving is miserable and I hope to never have to do it again. Did I understand correctly that the people you bought your new house from actually bought your old house? That's convenient!
Moving must be one of the most stressful life event ever! And it is so frustrating when you yourself have been so organized, booked everything ahead - done everything right and yet still - so many things tend to go wrong. No wonder you didn't have the energy to blog for so long!
Sounds like a nightmare.
I am glad that things finally got completed. Well nightmarishly completed at any rate.
Looking forward to your next installment.
God bless.
No wonder you didn't feel like posting about this sooner & there's more!!!
Every thing that good go wrong ... did
Oh my goodness! DD, DS's family and myself all hoping to move this year so hope we have a better experience.
The people who bought our house, were not the same couple as the people whose house we bought.
Moving is always going to be stressful.
What a time you had...I am almost afraid to read the next installment!
Oh my, what a time you had getting to your new home. Hoping that after a rough start you are enjoying your new home.
It makes me sad...
