Back again................

Not sure where the last week or so went too, but it has gone by fast.  I have been busy knitting of course; I am making (at least) nine gnomes for Our Little Man's birthday in September as part of the take home gifts.  Mind you if you read The Knitting Basket's blog post this week, here, it turns out knitting is good for your health?  Who knew?

The weather of course has been stinking hot and humid.  I am so over summer now, I mean SO OVER IT!!!  Roll on the nice cool Fall weather. And as usual the month of August is just flying by.

Meanwhile here we are with another week's worth of homes for sale.

This week's "Home of the Week," is on the market for $2 million.  I of course don't like the price, but I do like the house itself.  I love the entrance up to the house.  It's an older home but very bright and airy inside with nice landscaping.

The "Condo of the Week," is on the market for $550,000.  Again it is nice and airy.  It says in the blurb that a couple with two children  live there, but when looking at the photos I get the feeling that they have probably moved out.  As trying to keep a place that tidy with two young children is nigh on impossible.  I just don't see any clutter at all?

Once again the, "Cottage of the Week," is a mansion and is on the market for $2.7 million.  I wouldn't change a thing, but who can afford that price?  Mind you it would be a year round home for us. It is pretty light and airy again despite all that wood.  I would love to be able to sit on that dock and watch the world go by..........though in this case it will probably just be ducks as it's a private lake!!

Now back to reality here is "Gill's Cottage of the Week," is on the market for $459,900 and for that price you not only get a 2 bedroom log home, but 2 guest cabins and 16 acres.  I love it, wouldn't change much and would move there tomorrow!!! Very oldie, worldy, reminds me of Little House in the Big Woods, don't you think?

Finally a bit of a funny story.  You know how I am always complaining about the gardeners and what a poor job they do weeding the gardens?  I transplanted a rhubarb plant from a tub into the garden.  Every time a couple of leaves pop through the soil, the gardeners think they are weeds and chop them off with their hoes.  I have had to put bamboo poles and string around the area, in the hopes they leave it alone.........can't win can I!

Hibernating weather..........

Summer has arrived and for the next week we will be having temperatures in the low to mid 30's (oC) or low 90's (oF) with the heat and humidity.  So that means I will be hibernating all week.  The older I get the less I can stand the heat and humidity.  I am so lucky that I do not have to work outside, but anything I have to do outside will be done first thing.

I think the video below says it all.

What is the weather like with you?

Things are quiet around here.........

which is the way I like it.

I have got my basement floor painted and it took 4 gallons of paint.  Will take photos later when it is all dry.  I managed to do it for around $80 all in all due to a gift card I had.  I'll let it set for a couple of days before we move stuff back.

Still no grass but skids of grass all around me, so close but so far away at the same time.  It's not September yet, so no need to complain.  "They" did come around last Friday and put some fencing up.  I am assuming that there is more to be done, as it is still a safety hazard, but who knows?

I do know it is quite a drop from the top of that wall to the bottom.

The weather has finally cooled down a touch making it easier to sleep and to function.  The humidity just drains my energy and makes my allergies a heck of a lot worse.

Is there anything exciting happening in your neck of the woods?

Just call me Sheldina........

Now if you watch The Big Bang Theory, you'll understand this post.  If you don't sorry it may not make sense.

I was talking with a neighbour the other night and I was telling her a story about a couple of things that had happened.

The big boss "R" had popped by the house as I had a couple of concerns with some things outside.  We had our conversation and agreed on this and that and he went on his way.

Later that day the carpenter came by to put the stairs on the back deck.  I was surprised to see him and he said:

"Heard you weren't happy as you had no steps so "R" said I had to do them right away."

That wasn't true and I told him so and said sorry that he had to come over when he was busy with other things and would he like a cold drink as it was a stinking on day.  He took it and I felt better.

At 5 pm that day I was barbecuing some burgers when a vehicle full of gardeners turned up.  One was talking on a phone and they kept looking over at our back.  They all got out and descended onto our back.  I asked them what they were doing and "R" had told their boss that they had to clean up the weeds in our back.

Now I will admit to telling "R" about this as it was bad, but these guys leave by 5 pm.  It was a stinking hot day, they were having to work late and were probably hungry and here I was cooking burgers.  I apologised that I didn't have enough burgers to go around, there were five of them, so offered them a cold drink, which they all took and I felt better.

This is where the Big Bang Theory connection comes in.  When someone is upset, Sheldon knows he has to offer them a hot beverage.  When I feel guilty, even when it's not my fault I offer a cold beverage, as a way of easing my conscious.  That why my neighbour said we should call me "Sheldina," from now on!!

By the way I LOVE The Big Bang Theory, one of my favourite shows on TV.

Hot and Humid...........

so of course I am hibernating.  The older I get the worse I feel in this weather.  My poor head has been pounding so fingers crossed it will break and rain soon just to clear the air.

I picked up a parcel from the Post Office on Tuesday.  I had ordered some books from Book Outlet  They had emailed me a $10 off code when you spend $30 so I thought I'd take advantage of it.  I ended up getting these books for a tiny bit over $30 and that included tax and shipping.  It is cheaper to buy a book than a magazine and I know I can get $1.50 at the used book store for them when I have done reading them.  Have you read any of these books?  I have started on Knit, Purl, Die by Anne Canadeo.  I love reading books that involve knitting despite the fact I can't knit for toffee.

This is the two girls' toy basket.  Our little Princess also knows where to go to get books on the shelf as she loves to be read too.  Our little Munchkin isn't really into it yet. I have to read more to her as she does have a lot of books at home.

Do you like the colour of our hardwood floor?  Gosh it is a pain to keep clean and marks so easily.  I make everyone take off their shoes when they come in the house; which actually is something that is typically done anyway in Canada.  However I can't afford to have folk walk in the house with dirty shoes that may scratch the floor.  I brush and dry swiffer it nearly everyday.  The marble border to the left of the border is part of the fireplace.

Oh, and finally we got our first gas bill for the house.  It was around $85 and that included $25 new account admin fee, that we had no choice but the pay.  We only use the gas to heat the water during the summer.  As we don't have a bill to compare it with, is that pretty normal usage or is yours higher or lower?  Remember without the fee it would have only been $60.

Another update..............

Well my mam and step-father have gone back home.  The three weeks went by really fast and a good time was had by all.  They got to spend a lot of time with their great-grandchild and our little munchkin left them with many firsts.

Her first two teeth appeared while they were here.  They got to watch her swimming and finally clicking that when the instructor said one, two, three to close her eyes as she was going to be dunked under water.  They saw her roll over and even make a start on crawling.  Mind you it's more of a dragging motion than crawling at the moment, but she'll soon be moving faster no doubt.

I just wanted to clarify that is isn't our daughter that is expecting but Our Little Princess' mum that is expecting.  Although not true blood relatives I class them as one.

I need to start packing in earnest and get everything sorted out.  The house seems to be coming along, and unless told differently, three weeks today we will be moving.  Must say I will be glad when it all happens as it seems to have dragged on.

I have got another ear infection, and it doesn't seem to want to go away, so I am going to have to bite the bullet and go to the doctors.  I have better things to do than trail down to Brampton to the doctors, but needs must I guess.

The weather has finally changed and it is now hot.  Had hoped to not put the a/c on, but we'll see.

One job I have to do today is to ring around looking for insurance for the car and the house, as ours seems to have gone up AGAIN.  Again I have better things to do than spend half the morning on the phone!!!

Hope all is well is you all and will try and post more.

Gill

End of August already?

Where on earth did the month go to?  Have to admit I am not a fan of  July and August as I am drained with the heat and humidity.

Mind you August was a great month for us personally as we paid off our mortgage.  We'll start to see the benefits of that in a month or so time, when things settle down.

Meanwhile I am so looking forward to the cooler Fall weather.  I am REALLY looking forward to the first frost; in the hopes I can stop taking bloody allergy pills!!!  Never had a summer like this one before for bad allergies.
I had an appointment for another lot of nerve testing on my hands and the conclusion is I need to see a specialist who deals with arthritis.  As we all know there is very little you can do with arthritis but live with it and keep moving the affected part (s) of you body to stop them seizing up.

September is going to be a good and busy month.  We have our vacation, the baby shower, sorting and tidying ready for the winter and of course we hope cooler temperatures.  It's also the start of Fall Fair season:

Do you look forward to September?

Conversation at McDonalds and Home of the Week

Conversation at McDonalds the other day:

Server: How can I help you?

Me: A small coffee frappe thingy please? ( I really like these and a small is quite big)

Server: $2.40 please.

Other Server:  Are you enjoying this weather? (It's stinking hot and humid)

Me: NO??? (While I am thinking to myself who on earth likes this bloody hot stinking weather)

Other Server: Oh.................then silence

So I figured I best say something to fill this silence.......

Me: Can't stand this weather but then again don't like the cold weather, guess I am never happy?

Server: Well I guess Fall is your favourite time of year then and Spring?

Me: Yes I love Fall, but we never have a Spring in this country do we?

Server:  No I guess not.

Luckily by this time the drink had come and I was on my way.

I bet they were saying to one another; miserable *itch, she should go back to where she comes from then!!!

Did I mention I am not a happy camper when the weather is like this....LOL

This weeks "Home of the Week," is mine as long as I don't have to pay nearly $6 million for it and it comes with a gardener and a cleaner!!  Don't think I would change a thing and I love the boxwood/privet hedge garden, very British.  The pet washing area in the garage is so cute and I have NEVER seen a garage so clean.  If they photographed our garage you wouldn't be able to see the floor for dirt and grass!!!  Very nice overall.

Once again the "Cottage of the Week," is no cottage but two houses on an island and at nearly $3 million not something that your average Joe could easily afford.  However if someone were to offer it to me for free I would take it.  I love how it's all decorated.  Would love to live there year round.  Wouldn't use the sauna though and was wondering what they do with sewage?

"The Condo of the Week," is in an ugly looking building.  I can't say the inside is much better.  I think it's the photos though that are not doing it justice this time.  It's probably nicer when you are there in person.  Not my cup of tea though but at $639,000 it's actually not too bad a price for where it is.

Ordered the baby shower invitations today from here  We ordered Our Little Princess' baby shower invitations from there and were impressed with the quality and the service.

Couple of good deals this week.

If you have a Rexall store near you they have Swiffer products on sale for $3.99 this week.  Both the dry and wet clothes and the dusters.  If you got your Procter and Gamble coupons, there are $1.50 coupons that you can use.  They have a three day special on Tide laundry detergent for $4.99 and again there were P & G coupons for $2 off.

At No Frills I saw and bought a 500 gram bag of shredded Silani Cheddar Cheese for $3.  I did not see this advertised in the flyer. So check your store as that is a super deal.  I may go back later in the week and get some more, as it freezes no problem.  Also in this weeks paper was the Smart Source insert and there was a $1 coupon of 2 packages of Christie Cookies, and No Frills have them on for 2 packages for $3; with the coupon making them $1 a package.

I picked up the rental car on Saturday, although I am not paying for it.  It's a Ford Fusion and is a very nice car. Still want my Betsy back though and fingers crossed she comes back to me all mended and happy!!

Will be hibernating this week as it's going to be stinking hot and humid.

By the way anyone have any ideas on how to stop a male Cardinal from constantly flyer into our window attacking his reflection?  It's driving me potty!

Odds and ends.....

Today would have been my Nana's 99th birthday if she was still alive......... I wrote about my Nana and Pop here  If you have a minute read that post I think it's worth while.

Dh is back at the hospital today to see the surgeon and to get his TWO stitches removed,  You would think he was getting TWO HUNDRED stitches removed the way he was going on the other night!!!  As I pointed out, he was being a drama queen.  He said I had no sympathy........well duh.....he's only getting two flipping stitches removed.  I had ten stitches in the one hand and six in the other and did I get any sympathy from him......heck no!!!!

So please think of me around 10:30 a.m.............actually it will probably be around 12 noon before we get to see the surgeon.  I am going along as I want him to make arrangements for a MRI on his other knee, as we want to know ahead of the game and try and prevent this happening to his "good"' knee.  If you hear of a British born woman murdering her dh because he wouldn't stop whining.........there's a good chance you'll know who that woman is!!!!

It's been too stinking hot and humid around here for me these past few days. Anyhow on Sunday I decided to cut the field as it was getting long again.  I have to say it's been a good summer as far as grass cutting goes.  I missed a month of grass cutting due to it being so flipping hot and the grass not growing.

Bathed Molly on Sunday morning; gave me the evil eye for the rest of the day!!!  I don't understand why she just doesn't accept the situation.  She has to have a bath, I am bigger than her, so I win not her?  Her skin feels nice and soft now.  Jane and Chris rescued this dog (Duncan) last week.  We were going to go and see him, but I don't really want a dog that is only a year old.

Cindy gave me some beets and a cucumber the other day.  So for lunch on Sunday we had cheese and cucumber sandwiches.  I love cheese sandwiches; though I think it's a toss up between cheese and red onion or cheese and tomatoes fresh from the garden sandwiches.

My dad used to take cheese and jam sandwiches in his bait/lunch and my mam said the other day she was having cheese and chutney sandwiches for her lunch.  I dislike both those types.  Do you like cheese sandwiches and do you add something to them or just eat them plain?

The calendar says March.....but it feels more like August..

We have been experiencing some super weather these past few days, infact on Wednesday it was too hot for me with the humidity I think we hit 30 oC.  By the weekend though the temperatures will be a lot cooler so I guess I should take advantage of the good weather while I can.

I have got some crocuses in flower finally:
I am finally getting around to posting photos from the Canada Blooms Show.

I would love a front porch like this one:

The sculptural part of this design was actually a leaf.

I would love one of the copper fountains, they are really neat........

Sounds good to me.........

How about you?  Thank you to Carla for this one.
