Spoons and Mug Cakes.........

Adding to my teacup, saucer and side plates, are spoons.  I have been collecting these and they seem to cost around 25 cents a piece.  Can't say I am an expert in these, so if you think any of them are worth a small fortune, please let me know!!!!!

I liked this one the best in the ones I have bought so far:
I got a buy one get one free coupon for the Dr.Oetker mug cake.  So I bought a couple to give them a try.

They are very easy to make and each package makes two cakes.  They don't look as good as the ones on the package, but overall weren't bad.  We had ours with some vanilla ice cream.
I think I paid $1.99 for two packages, and other than a little milk you don't need to add anything else to the mix.  Unless I can get them super cheap I probably won't be buying them again.  They make a quick pudding.

The spoons are lovely - you are doing so well getting it all together for the party. Isn't chocolate cake in a mug a great idea?

Ummm Dutch chocolate! Like your spoons. I have a collection around here somewhere. Shows our age. My kids could care less about collecting spoons.

Are you going to set up a 'washing up' station for everyone to wash their cup, saucer, plate, spoon to take home?

I have tried the Dr. Oetker "Sauce and Cake" mixes - I agree with you - not bad, quick, and low cost.

I like that spoon also.
I have been tempted to buy those, but haven't yet, don't know that i will. The photo's on the packages are always fixed up to look a lot better than they actually are. i saw a food preparation show on TV some time ago, and it showed all the tricks of the trade. Mashed potatoes were used instead of ice cream in one segment of the show.
Have a good day.

Gill,

I've tried this recipe for a brownie in a mug, and while it isn't as good in my opinion as a "real" brownie, it will satisfy a craving in a pinch.

30-Second Brownies
------------------
Recipe from The Food Network Magazine 50 Brownies, March '12

Ingredients:
1 Tbsp. Cocoa Powder
1 Tbsp. Flour
1 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp. Water
1 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
a pinch of salt

Directions:
Stir ingredients in a small mug. Microwave 30 seconds and enjoy!

That is a very pretty spoon collection Gill, and I can see why your favorite is the one with the porcelain handily. It is a beauty. I will have to give one of those mug cakes a try.

These spoons are pretty! I occasionally make a cake in a cup from scratch. It's pretty easy and tastes great!

I have a spoon collection too, used to buy them at all the places we visited each year. I used to display them but that meant a lot of dusting, so now I keep them in the cupboard. Those mug cakes look good, might give them a try. At least I'll only be making 2 at a time so won't have a whole cake that I'll have to eat.
