Reduce, reuse, recycle in the garden

It was a lovely morning on Wednesday, so I got out in the garden to finish off a couple of raised beds.  When we got the windows replaced in the new basement I kept the old windows as I thought they would make cold frames.  Anyhow scrapped that idea and made a couple of raised beds with them instead.

I am going to put garlic in one of the beds, strawberries in the other and in between I will plant my gladiolus.  Now let me know if that is not a good idea? I still have to finish the beds off, but at least the hard work of digging the beds out is done. 001
I then made a start on the veggie patch and didn't get too far before my back started to complain.....
003
This shows how much more I still have to do!! Luckily I have company coming over on Saturday and I will see if they will help me with the weeding.  If they don't help they won't get fed!!!!004
After having a cup of tea I decided to tackle cutting the field again, however by lunch time it started to pour and never stopped all day.  I want to get my potatoes planted this week if possible.

Good work on reusing the old windows. I think working for your dinner is a wonderful idea! I can wait to see all your plants growing. It will get me motivated for our spring later in the year!

Gosh, I wouldn't know where to start with that much land. We have three high vegetable beds so I don't have to bend over too much. Aging/gardening can be a right royal pain at times :)

That's one huge area to dig over, I don't envy you! I put some pots in a few weeks ago and they need earthing up already, they obviously like all our rain! Take it easy or you will be on your back for a few days xxx

Poured rain here too. Need a nice day, as well as it being hubby's day off to get our garden tilled up.

That is a big garden spot to have to turn over by hand! Better be on the lookout for a tiller soon or you will be down with your back. Working for food sounds like a great idea.

We bought a tiller because digging took so much time.

What a brilliant idea to use the old windows to make flower and garden beds!

Wow that's going to be a beautiful garden space when everything starts growing!

I like the idea of raised beds but somehow they never happen...we do have a tiller to till the garden the first time every year...and sometimes he does too early and does it again before we plant.
