It started out looking like this:

and after a few hours hard work ended up looking like this:

Thanks to everyone who helped stack the logs.  It went a lot easier as there were more hands helping.  There is three bush cords there and it cost us $280 (cash) for each bush cord.  We used the same company we used last year from Singhampton.

Meanwhile dh and ds got busy putting in the new stairs:

It is all to stain and varnish which I'll get too after the plumber and tile installer have been in and done their work.

I helped out a little with the logs, but went indoors to make a batch of jam for everyone to take home, plus I sorted out lunch for everyone.  Nothing exciting just different filled rolls, roast beef, ham, chicken and cheese and onion, plus chips/crisps.  Along with fresh strawberries and raspberries with ice cream and squirty cream.

By the way I cooked a whole chicken overnight in the crockpot, just season, DO NOT add water and it is so moist.

My allergies are driving me crazy, I want to pull off my nose and pull off my ear lobes as they are so itchy.  I have even resorted to using Nasonex in my nose, which I hate doing.  I am going to be hibernating over the next few days as it is so hot and humid.

Do you like the heat and humidity?

the wood pile looks fantastic! When you cooked the chicken what excactly did you do to it. Is your crockpot what we call a slow cooker? I hope you feel better soon, and that the hot weather cools.

Wish our little log store was as neat and as tidy as yours ! Lunch sounded wonderful- I bet it was appreciated too, especially as they all had time to work up an appetite.

Hello Gill
Gosh you all worked really hard at that wood pile. Did you go through all your wood last winter or was there some over?
I must try chicken in the crock pot sometime - never done one before, a bit worried it might not be cooked all the way through. How was yours?
Sorry can't help with the allergies - have lots of little problems but thats not one of them lol
Take care
Cathy

Your log pile will keep you nice an warm during the winter.
Isn't this heat and humidity something else. I am writing this at 11:08 a.m. Sunday, my thermometre is reading 34.8 C in the shade. I have A/C on but it makes my sinus plug up and then have post nasal drip. A small price to pay to keep cool.
I will have to try the chicken in the crock pot, no water you say? sounds easy.
Keep cool

I love reading about your house and what you do around it... very interesting!

I HATE the high heat and humidity. No A/C at home, so I prefer to be at work when it's that bad. People find it odd that I don't take vacation during the summer, but this is how I like it :-)

The wood pile was impressive and so were the stairs that your husband built. I have always had great admiration for people with carpentry skills, as was the case this weekend when we had built-in, floor-to-ceiling bookcases made for our family room. I'm going to be doing a post on them this week. The chicken dish sounded very interesting and something I would like to try. You didn't add anything? No liquid, just seasonings? Sorry you're still having problems with your allergies. We're having a heatwave heading our way. I have been hearing about 100 plus temperatures from other blogging friends, not looking forward to that. I won't be going outside very much.

Your woodpile looks great and so do your stairs! I am sorry about your allergies -- I feel your pain. No, I don't like heat and humidity. I grew up in South Texas and it was hot and humid but we had nice breezes from the Gulf of Mexico. Now I live in North Texas and we don't have the humidity but we don't have the nice breezes, either -- just the heat. It is hotter here than in the south!

I have wilted!
Too hot to do much outside (or inside)this weekend. Don't think I'll be doing much physical stuff this week either.

I'm rather sued to high heat and humidity since I have spent so much time visiting my grandparents in the Southern U.S. (Florida and now South Carolina)in the summer months. I have tactics to put up with the heat, but am noticing that it affects me much less than lots of people.

Hey Gil...a question about the crockpot chicken - does the skin cook or does it stay gooby?

I have wanted to try this for some time but I hate soft/gooby chicken skin.

Tuesday was a mixed bag type of day. Had the appliance repair guy come again to install another circuit board in the fridge.  When hubby got...
