Past week catch up......

I seem to be getting into a routine on what things to post and when.  Friday's are my weekly favourite things posts.  Monday's seem to be "a what happened this past week," type of post.  I am a woman of habit, and I enjoy routines.  It's a good thing in my book.  

We had the coldest week of the 2022/23 Winter season so far this past week.  The heating seemed to be on constantly Thursday though Saturday.  I paid January's gas bill on Wednesday and saw quite a jump in the bill this time round, wasn't happy, but the older he gets the more hubby feels the cold, so turning down the heat isn't an option.  Me, I am still "hot-flash" Annie, so rarely feel the cold.

Took grandson for his swimming lesson on Friday.  That will now be a regular thing in the hopes we get somewhere with his swimming.  He is not confident in the water; hates putting his head under water.  Which would be fine but they have an inground pool in their back yard, so being able to swim is a priority.  It's a life skill everyone should have.  Won a new two piece swimsuit at this week's online auction, as I haven't bought one in years. 

Popped into Costco earlier in the week, to pick up a couple of things and nearly got mowed down in the store by a woman on one of those motorized wheelchairs.  Let me tell you the story..........

I was walking past a food sample location and the lady was giving out samples of Krispy Kreme donuts.  Now I haven't had those in years; I find them too sweet, but decided why not try a sample to see if I still felt the same.  I politely asked for a sample and stepped back from the area, only to hear "watch out behind you."

A lady on one of those motorized wheelchairs with the shopping cart on the front came zooming up behind me.  I stepped out of the way, and was just going to ask her if she would like me to get her a sample, with her being in a wheelchair.  When up she popped from the wheelchair, like a woman on a mission.

Now before I could put my filter in my mouth, out pops the word's, "oh you can walk then," from me 😳  She turns round after grabbing her donut and said, "I have just had a heart attack, that's why I need to use the wheelchair."

Both me and the woman giving out the samples just look at her.  Hopefully I remembered not to roll my eyes............oh, and yes the donuts are still too sweet for me.

Then this for my fellow Canadians, got my Zoomer magazine this week and there was a really interesting article about Chrystia Freeland.  I must say I actually like her.  Don't have much time for most politicians but do like her.  There was also a lot of interesting articles about vacations.  Oh and yes we are going to Charleston, South Carolina this year for our vacation, that's why I picked up that puzzle.

Stinking cute or what?

I really enjoy a magazine called Pretty Patches and in the March edition there was a pattern for Archie The Alien.

I decided to make one for our new granddaughter who is due in June, in some of the fabric scraps from her room.  I will share with you in another post everything from the nursery.

 She is so stinking cute isn't she?

Now we don't know the sex of the other baby due later this month, but in case it's a boy (mother thinks it will be, I don't) I made another Alien from the scraps of fabric from one of the two quilts I made for that grandchild.

Now if the baby is a girl, I will give this one to Our Little Man, as it is very boyish.

Should we try again

I am the worst blogger out there, really.  What is my problem?  It's a new year so like a lot of you out there I guess I'll make a belated New Year's resolution and start blogging again.  I think my problem is that I have a pretty boring mundane life, and who on earth would want to read about it?  I do though have a few things in the works though and over the next few months I will begin to share with you what's going on.

The one thing I will share with you today though, is that we are going to be grandparents again TWICE this year in the space of a week or two.  Our Little Princess and Our Little Man are getting a brother or sister at the end of May and Our Little Munchkin will be getting a brother or sister a week or two later.

So as you can imagine, quilting and knitting are high on my to-do list this year.  However I also have a number of other things on my to-do list for the year.  I wonder of I make a list, it will help me achieve them?  I guess it won't hurt?

1. Prepare for two new grand babies.
2. Knitting a pair of socks - it has been on my to-do list since I started knitting.
3. Prepare "stock" for a table at a Christmas Sale in November/December - I'll talk about that at a later date.
4. Finish the basement, or get as much done as possible to the carpeting stage, so in Spring of 2017 all we have to do is put the carpet down there.  This situation is all down to money.
5. Put plans in motion for dh to retire in the next couple of years - this is something I would like to explore more in depth and will do in many posts over the year.
6. Explore more ways to save money and share with you all, what works and what doesn't.
7. Be more organized.  I know I do have that "A" type personality, but I have been letting things slip recently, so need to be more on top of things.
8. Get the rest of the main floor decorated - another big chunk will be done by the end of the month.
9. Try and go away on vacation later in the year.
10. Menu plan - this is a hard one for me, but if I do it I feel more organized.
11. Come up with ways to save money when grocery shopping, as believe me the price of food is rising by the day.

And finally, just because, here is my first knitting for one of the new babies to be.  It's one of the baby gnomes, customized by me.  He or she is less than six inches in height.

That is the phone next to it, and I made a matching baby hat.  The books on the side are ones I have to review, so keep an eye out for those reviews.  Fingers crossed I can manage a post for tomorrow!!

Look what I got for Mother's Day from dd and hubby:

Yep, they're expecting their first baby at the end of November.  Honestly I was, and I think I still am in total shock.  I just wasn't expecting it, so it came as a complete surprise for for dh and I.  She goes for her first ultrasound tomorrow and she will find out the sex of the baby at 21 weeks.  My bet is on it being a boy; then I always say that!!!  This baby will also be the first great-grandchild on my side of the family.  Also Our little Princess  and dd's little one will both being going to school at the same time, despite Our little Princess  being born in January and the new little one in November.

Dd is well and hasn't had much in the way of morning sickness; mind you that is a blessing as when she has had it, she burst a blood vessel in her eye from vomiting that hard.  I had pretty easy pregnancies, so I would expect the same with dd.  When dd told Our little Princess  parents, they drove up to congratulate them and brought up the baby's first outfit.  Our little Princess  is 4 months old today.

Our little Princess , her parents and grandparents are heading to Mexico next week on vacation.  Our little Princess  even has a bikini!! I can't wait to see the photos of her in her bikini!!

So now I have another baby shower to organize this year!!!  Luckily I will have the capable help of dd best friend "K," who is a Martha Stewart wannabe.......yes you are "K!"  I am going to be a pro at organizing baby showers and sewing baby quilts before long!!!

So to all the mother's out there and you don't have to be a mother of a human, animals apply as children also, a Happy Mother's Day to you all.
