I mean really.........it was a bloody comedy of errors I swear.
I had been out and decided to take a "short cut" up a road I had never traveled before. I am going to assume in all of Canada, but don't know for a fact, in the countryside we have side roads and concessions. The side roads go west to east and the concessions go north to south. To separate counties they call that concession "so and so" town line road. Are you following???
So being a "clever clogs" I decide to scoot up one of those town line roads, as I knew where I was stopping at next was on the east side of this road. Great plan, until the road went around a corner and I was supposed to "turn off" instead of following the road.
No problem I thought I would just scoot up another concession. Yes the road was paved, but then it turned into a gravel road, which of course had just been recently graveled. Believe me when I say you HAVE to slow down as if you do decide to try and go faster it feels as though you are skating on ice.
I was cringing the whole time as despite going slow I could hear all the stones pinging against the underneath of my car. It was like a dust storm behind me, so all I could think of my black car will now be brown.
Then to add insult to everything I was eating my lunch as I was driving; one of those new lunch wrap's from Tim Hortons (got a coupon for a free one) and I took it out of the packaging and melted cheese sauce went right down the front of me...............
Luckily at my next stop I was able to wipe myself down and look sort of presentable. I am staying in today it's safer!!

This made me giggle because it's just the sort of thing that used to happen to me when I drove! Bless you! Glad you got home safely in the end!
Glad you eventually found your way home, Gill. I love riding the back roads but it can be quite confusing at times where roads suddenly end but start again several concessions or lines over as they sometimes do in York Region.
Even though concession roads run east to west they don't always go in a straight line and end up jogging around a bit, just to keep the drivers on their toes.
Glad you did find your way home eventually.
This is called 'Taking the scenic route.' It makes life more interesting.
Doesn't everyone take back road alternate routes? I do all the time and sometimes I have no idea where I will turn up until I get there. I call it adventure driving.
Poor you Gill! Sounds just like what would happen to me. Take care.
Sounds like an adventure! Glad you made it home safe and sound. :)
The first time I went out by myself here,I got so lost I had to call Chris to talk me back to the right road. The first few months I had real trouble finding my way in the dark.

PS We should never go driving together.
Oh, gosh. That's funny now, isn't it? I bet you weren't laughing at the time!
I was about to say, you should have followed sat nav but now I think of it, they more often than not take you around the houses. Two weeks ago in Glasgow my sat nav tried to take me through a pedestrianised walkway! I'm imaging you with a soggy wrap and a dusty car and red angry cheeks!
After losing my way a few times I stay off of roads I don't know. Glad you made it home all right.
God bless.
Not good! I managed to spill hot cover over myself on the way to my car's MOT. Again, not good.
Yeah, that theory only works in southern Ontario (like Bowmanville where I grew up). If you tried that up here you'd be in trouble. We have too many lakes and such that the roads go any where! It's a real pain when the highway (trans Canada) is blocked and you want to take the 'back way' home because there really is no back way.
I don't live in Canada but I can get myself plenty lost on the backroads here in Washington State! One of my Hubby's favorite things to do is take a drive somewhere we haven't been before. With NO map. I'm always afraid we'll get so lost in the mountains that we'll never find our way back but we always have.
Glad you finally made it home.
Blessings,
Betsy
we all have days like that!
Poor thing. Your journey sounds horrendous. Glad you got home safely though.
Sounds like a comedy of errors, bless you. Glad you got home safely in the end.
I've gotten myself lost on the backroads!
I did that once and ended up in Kentucky....... OI!
I did that a couple of weeks ago as well--My friend said I wasn't lost, simply "misplaced." Okay... But thank heavens for my navigation app on my phone, and not being in a hurry. But it's a good feeling to finally find your way, isn't it? --
I got lost in the country roads. I thought I new my way home, but took a wrong turn too soon. I was glad when something finally looked familiar and ended up north of my house, so I was going in the right direction, I just didn't turn south right away!
