Dear Both,
Thanks for your lovely letter dated August 12th. Can’t believe I am getting back to you so fast.
Stinking hot and humid again, feels like a sauna when you go outside. So once again I am hibernating as it doesn’t suit me this type of weather. Had hoped not to cut the grass until next week, but have a feeling with the way it’s growing I’ll be cutting the five acres both this week and next.
Touch wood since I
last spoke to you the car has been fine.
They did replace the fuel pump in it and have had no problems yet. Just heard a bird tweeting, it’s my
phone. I got one of these smart phones;
you know the ones with all the bells and whistles. The damn thing is smarter than me
though. I am under strict instructions
that I am only allowed to text, take photos and email people. When I have learned that I can go onto other
things!!! As it is ds was making fun
of me at the weekend for signing off my texts with my name. As he pointed out he knows who the text comes
from as it says my name.
Wouldn’t be so bad "J", but the other day I left my credit card in a store; had the shop
assistant running down the mall trying to catch up with me. I was shaving my legs this morning and forgot
to take the plastic protective cap off before using the razor. I am so getting senile………who am I writing
too???!!!!
Our night away at
Niagara-on-the-Lake was fine. Although a
fancy hotel, we have stayed in nicer rooms for a fraction of the price. The meal was gorgeous though, we couldn’t
fault that. I had an Irish coffee and between me and you I think it was more Irish
than coffee. The restaurant was around a
15 minute walk from the hotel and between us walking there and walking back
something happened to the footpath. On
the way there it was straight and narrow.
After dinner it was all wobbly and extremely narrow??? Bit of a puzzle if you ask me. DH said it was fine and was laughing when I
was going on about it; I wonder why?
Nothing much
happening on the wildlife front. All the
baby squirrels have left. Down to one
rabbit hanging around. All the horses
are doing fine. We still have a red
cardinal head butting the window fighting his reflection, but it seems to be
getting less thank goodness. Red Cardinals
are very territorial and when he sees another male he goes into fighting mode;
stupid thing. Do believe cluster fly
season is starting so the hoover will be out permanently hovering up the bloody
flies in the house. Just look like house
flies/bluebottles, but bigger and dopier.
Then the Asian beetles/orange ladybugs will be arriving shortly also just
to add to the mix. Funny thing is I don’t
remember signing up for this?
Well I think I have
droned on enough. Hope everyone is fine
at your end and I look forward to hearing from you.
Lots of love,
Bet you're glad I am not your pen pal. Do you write letters to any of your friends?

Yes, I do write letters (for 58 years) to a couple friends and a cousin across the pond. My letters sound a lot like yours. Full of a little bit of this and a bit of that, and not a whole lot of anything. One friend does e-mail me her letter, but its not the same, I still like to slit open that envelope and read from the sheets of paper.
Hope you are having a good time on your vacation.

I love that you write letters, especially to your neighbours over 2 decades ago :) It seems that no one writes these kind of "newsy" notes, anymore, even by e-mail. It's nice to know how folks are doing. I'd be glad to be your pen pal :)
Given our phone conversations we'd have to write novels to one another!

That's a fun, newsy letter, Gill. I used to write letters all the time but email has made me lazy.
Oh, this is good...real good! Got me laughing and I sure have not been laughing much this week.
