Just under a week......

Went to the passport office last Wednesday, and it was delivered by Canada Post the following Tuesday.

Really glad we didn't pay extra for them to be rushed through.  Excellent service I would say.

We could travel with a British Passport as well, but find it's as easy with just the Canadian one, plus it means going to downtown Toronto to get one of those and it's total gridlock downtown unless you use the subway.

Funny story, last time I was on the subway I was with our daughter and she told me off for talking to a stranger.  It turns out that's something you don't do on a subway; who knew?  Also I have no sense of direction at all on the subway, so am not allowed to go on it by myself!!!!

I wonder if we'll be getting another 10 year passport, as we'll be 70 and 76 when this one expires?

I think that is funny your daughter is taking care of you. When I went to NYC to visit my daughter with a newborn baby, I was going to walk to a corner store for bagels and then walk the down the main street in her Brooklyn neighborhood. She came to the door and called to me, asking me what her address was in case I got lost. I told her I knew the address. She demanded I say it to her so she would know that I knew it. I finally told her as she was not giving up. When she first asked, I told her I would turn at the deli. She said there were lots of them so that would not work. I told her she should write her name, address, and phone number on a piece of paper and pin it to my coat.

So, I was amused at your story and had to share mine.

Wow - that was certainly fast!
Talking about subways and people....we were once in Toronto with our boys and, like you, we ended up somewhat directionally challenged. I asked a fur-coated heavily jeweled man, if he could help and he very nicely told us where we needed to be. The boys were horrified that I would talk to a person who quite obviously was a pimp (at least in their eyes anyway). They were still of the age when 'don't talk to strangers' was impressed upon them. Funny that they knew what a pimp was at that age though.

We need to redo our passports as well and am trying to decide if we want to go for the 10 year ones as well. Harvey would be 85 and I would be 78 by that time.

Last time I was on a subway in Toronto was for World Youth Day and everyone was just lovely (that would have been in 2001).

God bless.

I've still got eight years on my passport.

I wonder when it became a 'law's not to talk to certain people. I know I have had a conversation about something, I wont say on here. But it surprised me. It was something I said...and was told not. And it was just in relation to history.

I haven't renewed a British passport since the late 80s. Too much on line work now. Add in the fact that you need to make sure you have the PR card with you as well. My generation of immigrants only had the paper slip stapled to the UK passport.

My brother never got around to taking out his citizenship and the hassle of renewing a PR card every five years is pushing him towards it.
