Look back on the week...............

We had a Civic holiday on Monday, so a quiet day around here.

We started sorting out some bits and bobs to put on Facebook Marketplace to sell.  Things we didn't want or need.  Hubby has a lot of duplicates when it comes to tools.  So earned a little money to put towards our vacation next month.

It's been hot and humid again, but did manage to get some work done in the garden on Tuesday.  Everything is dormant or dead due to the lack of rain.  Also managed to get some extra garbage disposed of this week, as our neighbours are away and they said we could put bags of garbage out on their driveway.  All in all that saved us taking probably another 60lbs of rotten wood to the dump.

Blood work had to be done this week for both me and hubby.  Ended up getting good results for me.  I have managed to lower my A1C down to 6.9.  September 2024 it was 7.9.  So slowly but surely I am getting there.  Still have a ways to go, but getting there.

Had the hydro inspector come round to inspect the new electrical panel ($200 later!!) hubby put in.  We are going to get a portable generator for when the hydro goes out and so we can run the sump pump in the basement.  Although we have a battery backup, we're terrified it fails and we end up with a flooded basement.  He praised hubby for his neat work; knew he was an electrician by trade.  So that pleased hubby.

Now watching Home Hardware's sale's flyer like a hawk; waiting for the generator we need to come on sale.

Did some sewing and sold some fabric I didn't need.  Haven't sewn in a while and it felt good.

Got back into posting on the blog, and thoroughly enjoying it.  Managed to get a few posts written up for the upcoming week as well, as we have a busy week ahead of us.

Meals we hit and miss this week, trying to change it up rather than eating salad and something every day.

I walked 5 out of 7 days and averaged nearly 7,000 steps per day.  I will talk about this another time, as I am having major problems with my feet.

All in all a very productive week for a change; and believe me they are few and far between nowadays!

How was your week?

What are your thoughts?

Went to Costco the other day.  For those of you who do not shop at Costco, before you leave the building you have to show your receipt, as they check (sort of) what's in your trolley, matches what's on your receipt.

In front of us there was a guy with a bunch of red roses, sitting in the bed of the trolley.  The guy checking the receipt, says: "what did you do!!!"  He replied he was an Uber Eat's driver and this was an order.

Now I had a bit to say on this to dh!!!

Me: "If you're ever in the dog house with me, DO NOT send me roses via Uber Eats.  Because it shows you just can't be bothered going to the store to buy them yourself.  If you did that I would be even more peed off!!"

Dh: "Well I would never send you roses, as you can't stand roses (very true, I'm a carnation girl); and I would never order anything through Uber Eats, as I wouldn't want to pay the delivery charge (very true!!)  Also I try not to be in the dog house with you, as I don't want the grief."

LOL😂

Now to be fair in all of this; we're just assuming that someone (male) was in trouble and sending these flowers to make someone happy.  However, it would never occur to me to get flowers delivered through Uber Eats, would you?

Now I happened to mention this conversation to my daughter and she was telling me the following:

A friend of hers works in a school, I am thinking middle school, which goes up to Grade 8, or 13/14 years of age.  She works in the office and she is finding more and more Uber Eats drivers turning up at lunch times with lunches for the kids.  Now whether it be the kids ordering lunches or the parents ordering lunches who knows?

Once again I was flabbergasted with this.  Are parents/children that lazy they can't even be bothered to put up a lunch?????

Any thoughts on this also?

Good job, jobbed

The one thing about hubby is he likes to be busy.  So he has been finishing off the last room in the basement.  While doing that he found a problem with the window well's surrounding the basement windows outside on the one side.

This is our neighbour's basement window well and you can see it's surrounded by wood.  This photo is just for reference.  Ours looked similar.

So hubby dug out all the wood and installed the metal window well's, which you typically see in all houses.  This is the laundry room window.  There is another smaller one to the right, as it has two windows.
This is the downstairs bedroom window.  The metal window wells look a lot tidier.
This is all the wood that came out of the window wells.
Look how rotten it was............

It was soaking wet, so we have been letting it dry out a bit before we take it to the dump/tip.  As we pay by weight!!!

This was a job we didn't realize we needed to get done.  Thankfully it's finished with now.  Now we are busy collecting and sorting out things to take to the dump, as we have to hire a van from Home Depot to put everything in, as we don't have the pick up truck anymore.......I'll post about this in a bit.

Tasty meal

Made these veggie burgers the other night.  I buy the veggie burgers from Costco and the burger buns from Zehrs, which is a PC store.  Those burgers are so tasty.  I cook them in the air fryer for 20 minutes, turning them half way through, so they cook evenly on both sides.  I enjoy these mini buns, better than the larger ones; but can only get them at stores which sell the PC products.

We had two each for our supper and they are so filling.

Although I am not vegetarian, I don't eat much meat, so we probably eat more meatless meals than meals with meat.  One of our grand daughters is pescatarian.  She is only 9 years of age, but made this choice over a year ago and has stuck with it.  We thought it was a passing phase, but I guess not.

Do you eat meat?

Better later than never.........I guess

Monday was a Civic holiday here in Southern Ontario.   So I took advantage of cheap hydro and decided to wash the shower curtain/liner and bath mats.  Then did a load of winter coats.  It's August and I am only getting around to washing the winter coats???  I am way, way behind this year!!  Haven't even started on the hats and mitts.

I guess it's better later than never.  For the eagle eyed readers and especially those in the UK, yes one coat says Stobart on it.  It's actually a Carlisle United football team winter coat.  At that time Stobart Trucking sponsored the team.  My brother used to drive for them.  The company always had girls names on their trucks.  My mother and daughter had their names on one of my brother's truck.  I can't remember but maybe the girls (grand daughter's) also had their names on one of his as well?  I'll have to ask him.  I do know he never got to put my name on one of the trucks.............boo!!

20 years later.........

So this photo is out of focus on purpose; before anyone says something.

These are my money boxes.  I put money in each one each week.  The largest box is my Christmas box and $20 goes into that one.  The smallest one is the birthday box, and $20 goes into that one each week.

The one in the middle has our daughter's name on it and the word birthday.  I set these boxes up 20 years ago to save money for Christmas and birthday's, and as our daughter was turning 21 the following year I put money away each week in the middle sized box to give her money on her 21st birthday to set up an RRSP account.  Our daughter turns 40 this year in November, so I have had these boxes in my drawer doing the same old thing each week for 20 years now.  I have never bothered to change the name on the middle box.  I still save money in it each week and it generally gets used as spending money for our vacation, or if we need cash for something.  For example we had our driveway sealed a couple of weeks ago and they wanted cash, in fact $220 worth of cash, which to my mind was expensive?  However it looks good!

We do have a son and we gave him money also for his 21st birthday for RRSP's.  In the UK 18th and 21st birthday's are a big deal.  I know we gave the kids money also for their 18th birthday.

Last year our son turned 40 and this year, our daughter-in-law, son-in-law and daughter all turn 40.  It just seems like yesterday that they were all teenagers.  Our son-in-law has been "in the family" since he was in his early teens, as has our daughter-in-law.  Looking back time has certainly flown by fast.

As for the grand-kids, the youngest one turned 4 in June and the oldest one will be 12 in November.  It just seems like yesterday when they were new born's in our arms.

A stroll down memory lane for me today!

I miss blogging.........

Are blogs a thing anymore?  I must admit, I have got out of the habit of blogging..........it's been exactly a year since my last blog post.

I was looking for information on something over the weekend and remembered I had posted about it; probably 10 years ago, so went looking for it through my blog.  I wasn't able to find the exact info, but down the rabbit hole of past blog posts I went and you know what that's like?

You read about the good times and the bad.  Memories pop up you had forgotten about.  You see photo's of yourself and are amazed at how young you looked.......well I do!

So here I am again and thinking how about starting up the blog again, posting about everyday life.  Things have changed a lot around here, as hubby retired last September (2024) and so that has been an adjustment for both of us.  We are still married, so I can say things are working out pretty good; however it's not all sunshine and roses!!!  No one's lives are if they're being totally honest, now are they?

So I am ready to give it a shot.  If no one else reads it but me, that's perfectly fine.  I have been wondering if there is a way of printing off all the posts over the years and making a hard copy of them, for prosterity?

So, are you still blogging, please leave a link to your blog in your comment so other people can visit.  And lets make blogs a popular thing to read again!!!

Do you remember this?

Barry White popped up in my video's on Facebook and then I remembered about this.  Used to love Ally McBeal.  Did you enjoy the seri...
