It's been a while..........

 since I have bought a fruit and veg bag which costs $20 a month.  I picked it up yesterday and thought it was good value for money.  What do you think?

The only thing I think we will have trouble using is all those potatoes.

I did have leftover mashed potatoes in the fridge, so decided to make some fish cakes using a can of tuna.  I added some of the garlic and herb cream cheese to the mix, for extra flavour.  I also add the organic no salt flavouring to the breadcrumbs, which I made from some bread I had in the freezer.

I used some of the cucumber with a little ranch dressing on it as a veggie and fried the fish cakes in a little bit of oil.  I guess I could have put them in the air fryer..........I just thought of that???

Will say they were nice and tasty......

That time of the month again......

Picked up my monthly produce bag.  I pay $20 for it.  I did leave the 10lb bag of potatoes with them, and they will donate them to the food bank, as I still have half a bag of potatoes left over from last month.

There was quite a nice selection in the bag.  Everything that we will use.  Again the I will stew the apples and have apple sauce with yogurt for a pudding for supper.  Last month's bag was red delicious apples and they were nasty stewed.  This month's they are Fuji, fingers crossed they are better.

I will pay for another 3 months I think and go from there.  The price of of produce is still high in our neck of the woods.  Are things getting any cheaper where you live?

With the price of food sky rocketing on a daily basis, I have decided to get a produce bag once a month.  It is $20 per month and I have been pretty pleased with it.  Above is what I got in December.  This month's seemed heavy on the fruit and other than the cucumber no salad items.  

Have you seen the price of lettuce, you need to take out a second mortgage to buy one!!

We used to live off salad, but due to the higher prices I am having to adapt our diet.  The pepper's I used to make a pepper and onion quiche.  Carrots were used in soup and mashed carrot and turnip.  I have been making baked potatoes, both stuffed and plain.  The onions were used in various things.

I managed to get some bagged salad on sale so topped that with diced up cucumber.  By the way am I the only one who gets a bad stomach when I eat cucumber?  The only way I can eat them now is peeled.  It's something in the skin that upsets some people's stomach.

All the fruit was eaten raw as is, except the apples, and I am not fond of apples, I don't hate them just not something I buy often, so will probably make apples sauce with them.

Produce Box

Every other week I get a fresh produce box delivered.  I contains all local (Ontario) grown produce.  I get the small box which costs $30 and feeds 2 - 3 people.

Here is what I got this week:

 I specifically asked for NO red delicious apples, garlic or lettuce.

Cauliflower with cheese sauce will be on the menu this week, and I can see a curried carrot lentil and kale soup/stew on the menu as well!

 Will boil the beets and eat them cold with salad.  Yummy.  The eggplant and zucchini will be made into a eggplant and zucchini Parmesan type dish with tomato sauce and melted cheese.

They also offered goat cheese this 200 gram tub was $10.

They offer other add on's, like bread, pies, honey, eggs and now a fresh fruit box.  I am very pleased with the quality and the quantity.  Now to get cooking!!
