National War Memorial, Ottawa

The National War Memorial is more or less opposite the Parliament Buildings, you can see part of one of the buildings in the left hand side of the photo.

Each department of the armed forces takes turns standing guard.  They then switch out with another pair, I think on top of the hour.  It's a great honour to be chosen to stand guard.  It is also very moving to stand in front of this memorial and think about what the armed forces have done to protect us all in Canada and all over the world.

The memorial was unveiled May 21, 1939 by King George VI
