Odd?

I was out at our major chain bookstore last weekend minding my own business 😉 when I saw a guy with a red wagon like this one:

Inside of the red wagon were three cats covered in blankets; you could see their heads.  Walking along side of this guy was a woman walking another cat on a leash.  The three in the wagon were female cats, as I heard to woman saying to the cat she was walking that they had to keep up with her sisters!

Now the reason I found this odd, and believe me there are multiple reasons!!!

1. Who takes four cats out shopping with them?
2. The cats were so well behaved, so this wasn't their first outing.
3. Again they were so well behaved, I am no expert when it comes to cats, but generally they have a mind of their own and NEVER listen😉😉
4. Again, who takes four cats out shopping with them???

Hubby banned me from taking a photo...BOOO!!  The one on a leash was stunning, a grey short haired cat with lighter spots, just like a leopard.  There is a pet store a few doors up from the bookstore, so maybe they had been there first?

Lots of questions went through my head! 

Walter Henry.........

Was talking to a friend on Facebook about cats, as she posted a cute video of her black cat.  I am quite sure my other friend who is part of the cat team at our local Humane Society said black cats are harder to re-home.  Not sure why as I love black cats.  We had a black cat growing up called Moggs, she was an outdoor cat most of the time which was normal back in Britain in the 70's.  When dh and I got married we got a cat, but she ended up going to live at a neighbours when we had our son.  Again he was an outdoor cat that came home to eat.  We never had litter boxes for either of those cats.

Not sure if you are a long time reader of my blog but we had a short bout of ownership of a male cat called Walter Henry, which you can read about here.  Unbeknownst to us dh is really allergic to cats, and over the years I am getting to be the same.  So poor Walter Henry only lasted a couple of days in our old house, before we had to take him back to the shelter.

As I mentioned before my friend is part of the cat team at our local shelter.  It's called Alliston and District Humane Society they do such good work.  I have learned a lot about what they actually do and without all the volunteers there would be a lot of animals without homes.  My friend puts in long hours at the shelter doing various projects.  One of the things she's helped implement is the kitten adoption programme where for a fixed rate, you get to adopt a kitten and get follow up medical care, which includes a spay or neuter in the cost.  They are also active in trying to get local feral cat populations down, by capturing cats and spay or neutering them and releasing them.  Feral cats tend to be hard to domesticate, if they are friendly though they will re-home but more often than not they are released back into the feral colony.

My heart though is with dogs first.  We would love another dog, but we don't live in a dog friendly neighbourhood.  However there are lots of dogs where we live, but lots of whining going on about them.  We actually live in the little white yapping dog capital of the world, and 90% of those dogs just want to nip and bite your ankles.  Give me a large dog any day.  I had a Bernese Mountain dog come up to me the other day, plop itself down in front of me, right on my feet and sat there so I could rub her chin.  Funniest girl ever, thought she was a lap dog!!

As Bob Barker from the Price is Right Show always said at the end of every show:

"Help control the pet population: have your pets spayed or neutered."

Dd wanted a new cat bed for her two cats, so I made one.  I bought a Giant Whale pillow from Wal-Mart, at $5 + taxes for the middle of the cushion.

 The front/top of the cat bed is made using 100% cotton fabric called Fur Ball (very appropriate I thought!) Tabby Road by Tula Pink.

 The back cover is made using brown minky.  I hate sewing with minky, as bits get everywhere!!

I have a feeling though the cats will have to fight with the girls to claim it as their own.

The colours did not photograph up well at all.  It is a yellow orange on the background with a bright red orange as the fur balls.  Olive and Rhubarb will be getting their Christmas present early; this weekend.

Olive and Rhubarb

Dd sent me this photo of Olive and Rhubarb, sitting in amongst the laundry that had just come out of the dryer.  Olive doesn't look too impressed with it all (in front), does she?

Dd's boyfriend gave her a Cricut for her birthday and she has used it a number of times.  This is the top of a box of cookies she has put together for her friend.  She makes cookies to give to a number of people as Christmas gifts.  She enjoys baking at this time of year.

Managed to get some more stud walls up in the new basement when dh got home on Monday.  It's slowly coming together.  Also got the cats and Molly's presents wrapped.  We actually have a real live rabbit hanging around outside.  Never see him/her until we go to bed, then Molly sees him/her and then starts barking!!  Got to love Molly, you are just dropping off to sleep when she starts!!

I called ds on Monday to see if he remembered he had a mother!!!  He's a busy bee, was going to do his Christmas shopping on Monday night........he only has to buy the one present and that is for his sister, as his sister takes care of all the other presents he has to buy!!!  I wish my Christmas present buying was as easy!!  Can't wait to see them both on Christmas Eve.
