A Happy 152nd Birthday Canada.

Today is Canada Day, Canada's birthday when the Canadian Confederation was formed.

We live close to a couple of golf courses and a driving range.  When we were driving past the driving range we saw these and I thought how impressive they looked:

So for all my fellow Canadians, I wish you all a Happy Canada Day.

Hanging in there like a bad smell........

me being sick that is.  I don't know what I have got but I am so over it.  I finally had a little bit of energy yesterday morning, so did some more priming down stairs.  Even swept out the garage, but all that ended up doing was making me more tired than ever.  I spent half an hour down the stairs this morning, finishing off the priming, so at least it's all done now.  Not planning on doing much more today than just the odd job or two that needs doing.

Dh is off on Friday for Canada Day, so our plan of action is for me to cut in and him to paint two of the rooms ceilings down there.  The ceilings are the hardest job for me.

Had a question for any of the gardeners out there.  My tomatoes have black bottoms, do you know what causes that and how I can prevent that from happening?  None are ripe yet, and none will be edible if they have black bottoms.

Today is Canada Day and it's Canada's 148th birthday.  You can read more about how Canada Day came about here.  As dh is contracted out to a factory and they can't shut down the big mills mid-week, so they are celebrating Canada Day on Friday; he gets a nice long weekend, which I think is better.

I have a couple of small finishes for my Yarn Along post this week.

I made another baby hat for Hannah (dh's co-worker's baby), this time a slightly bigger size; I love how it came out so pretty:

I also made a soft toy using this pattern:

Now please remember I only started knitting the middle of March of this year.  I have a long way to go before I can really say I am a knitter, but for my first attempt this wasn't bad.  I used 100% cotton yarn and this is the father size.  I need to practice my hand finishing as that leaves a lot to be desired.  

Angie at The Knitting Basket made a great suggestion at the Tuesday Knit and Stitch to knit my next one on smaller needles so it is a tighter weave, and that way you don't see the stuffing.  So instead of using US# 6, I will probably use US# 4 or 4.5.  

I printed out the pattern and you will need pages 1 through 20 for the body and pages 2 through 9 for the hat.  It is super simple to follow, I had no problems and it is a pretty quick and easy knit.  I am going to try it with some worsted yarn in a smaller size and in purple for Our Little Princess as that is her favourite colour.

The blue and yellow one I am going to give to Our Little Munchkin, as it reminds me of a Smurf and the blue food colouring "incident"!  Do you remember that?  If not you can read about it here.

I am not reading any books at the moment, just too busy with other things.

It's Canada Day here in Canada.

Dh has the day off which is good.  Our plan for the day is to do some regular jobs around the house, but dh is going to be working down the new basement doing some structural work.  We are pulling out the old stairs and moving the position of them slightly and putting in new beams and walls down there.  We have a guy coming in to give us a quote on tiling the floor in the laundry room we are putting in there as well.  There is a lot of prep work as well sorting the floor out, so it's not a straight forward simple job.

We are not planning on working all weekend, but do hope to get a lot of work done.

It's Canada Day here in Canada, so a vacation day for many people.  As dh is contracted out to a factory and they won't shut down mid week, his Canada Day is on Friday, so he gets a full three day weekend, so that's good.

My physical went as well as it normally does, lay on the bed, make small conversation with the doctor and nurse while he does his thing!!

I posted this on this post, but thought it was worth posting it again:
This is a laugh for all those women out there who so look forward to that wonderful time once a year when they get to become "intimate" with their OB/GYN doctor. In Sydney, Australia one of the radio stations pays($1000-$5000) for people to tell their most embarrassing stories. This one netted the winner $5000....







I was due later in the week for an appointment with the gynecologist! Early one morning I received a call from the doctor's office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for early that morning at 9:30a.m. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45a.m. The trip to his office took about 35 minutes, so I didn't have any time to spare. As most women do, I like to freshen up when making such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full effort. So I rushed upstairs, threw off my dressing gown, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in "That area" to make sure I was at least Presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment.






I was waiting in the waiting room only a few minutes when I was called in. Knowing the procedure, as I'm sure you do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended I was in Paris or some other place a million miles away. I was a little surprised when the doctor said, "my, we have made an extra effort this morning haven't we?" but I didn't respond.






When the appointment was over, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal.. Some shopping, cleaning, cooking,act. After school when my six year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, "Mum,where's my washcloth?" I told her to get another one from the cupboard. She replied, "No, I need the one that was here by the sink it had all my glitter and sparkles in it.

My arm is fine, he had a look at it, and poked at it, and doesn't think there is anything in it......so it's a case of wait and see I guess?
 
Now don't faint, but I didn't go out in the garden on Wednesday!!

Happy Canada Day and a rough day for me on Tuesday......

Well today is Canada Day here for us. We don't do anything personally for Canada Day. Infact dh isn't having Canada Day until Friday, as he is contracted out to a factory and they will not shut down the plant mid week, so they are having Canada on Friday, which to my mind is better as then he gets three days off in a row. Ds is also working today and he is an accountant and he too is getting Friday off. Dd and her boyfriend though are off today, she works for a big financial company and he works for the government. Me, well one day tends to be like another :0)

I woke up with a migraine on Tuesday. Its the first one I have had in a while. I am blaming it on the weather, as its been all over the place and most days recently we have had thunder storms, so very unstable air. It wouldn't have been so bad but I had arranged for a guy to come over to give me a quote for installing foam insulation in the attic. Luckily he was here at 8:30am, so I was able to go back to bed by 9:30am. It's now Wednesday morning and my head is still pounding, so this one is a nasty one.

Back to the insulation, the guy quoted us $6,300 :0O My reaction was "How much!" I had figured somewhere in the $3,000 range, as it is more expensive than regular insulation, but not twice as much. I think it works out to around $1.25 per inch deep, per square foot. We were getting 4 inches which works out to an R28 value. So we are obviously going to be doing it ourselves with Roxul for a cost of probably $2,000. The only problem though is dh is so busy with everything else, its a time factor. Though my dad had a great idea, why don't we hire a guy to come in and help us for a couple of days and pay him cash.........its an idea.

I am being a baby, as I'll do most things but I refuse point blank to touch the insulation, it reminds me of cotton wool, and I won't touch that either, I just don't like the feel of it!!

Well as I write this Wednesday morning we're in for another wet day which is a shame for all those Canada Day celebrations. I have my dad and step-mum coming up today to help out which is great. I have discovered we have had a mouse in the under sink cupboard where the garbage is, so now have to sort that mess out. The joys of living in the countryside!!
