Boxing Day Sales....

For as long as I can remember Boxing Day has been the be all and end all in shopping for deals.  I am sure our kids remember going out on Boxing Day with their Christmas money ready to hit the sales and get more for their money than if they had shopped before Christmas.  I loved to hunt for that perfect deal of 75% off and getting a bargain.

I remember the kids getting up at "stupid o'clock" to line up outside of Best Buy as they wanted some sort of electronic.

Fast forward to now and I remember reading that some people say that Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales are better than the Christmas sales.  I certainly see more items on sale for longer periods of time.  Now you don't have to wait until Boxing Day to get those deals.  50% off signs are everywhere.  Is this a sign of trying to garner more business after the two years of covid?  Retail suffered such a lot during that time.  

Add into "shopping" online and less people are hitting the stores.  You don't see as many lines outside of stores like it used to show on the news stations.  I for one shop more online than in store.  Not sure if that's a sign of the times or I just can't be bothered to line up in stores.  Plus after covid, I hate being in a crowded situation.

I still look for certain things on Boxing Day, in my case wrapping paper and gift bags, as those are things I use every year.  It used to be Christmas cards as well, but I haven't bought those in a few years, as I had a stockpile.

Do you go out and/or shop online on Boxing Day?

Boxing Day shopping.....

we always go and do a bit of Boxing Day shopping to take advantage of the sales.  However over the years we do less and less and this year I only wanted to visit a couple of stores.  Number one on the list was Michael's,  I picked up some yarn for scarves and some dish clothes.  The yarn for the scarves after the coupons was well under $5 each, and will make great gifts for Christmas and birthdays.

I picked up 8 Christmas cakes tins for the 2013 Cookie Swap party we are hosting next year.  Paid just over $1 each for them:

Went to Canadian Tire and picked up a new snow shovel, a tool thingy for dh and two new frying pans for me.  Spent over $60, so we got a $15 gift card to spend before the end of January.

Went to Mark's Work Wearhouse and got a new pair of slippers each, a pair of fingerless gloves for dh and some ear plugs, as we were 3 cents short of $50, and I had a $10 off coupon when you spend $50.

I think I may pop up to Barrie on Friday and check out the mall to see what's on sale there.  I couldn't be bothered to fight the crowds on Wednesday, although it wasn't too bad.  I also want to pop back into Michael's for a couple of things that would be great gifts for the cookie swap party.

Boxing Day Sales = Thumbs Down......

well at least for us.  I guess part of the problem is I won't line up in huge line's.  The line up outside of the Coach outlet store was just plain crazy and a lot of the other stores were just as bad.  I did pick up a couple of Christmas decorations at half price, but otherwise nothing else.  We are lucky I guess in Canada as we have good sales all the time.

My mam sent me another ornament for Christmas, another Waterford one.  It is gorgeous:

I have also been busy running back and forward to the local hospital as one of our dear friends has had a bad stroke.  Although no relation we are pretty close and he keeps asking for me.  So please say a prayer for him as he has a long road ahead of him.  He is paralysed down the left hand side and his speech is slurred, although I have no problem understanding him.

Boxing Day Sales and a cross stitch mystery............

It's a tradition in our house to get up early on Boxing Day and go to the sales to get some bargains.

Now I have to say me and dh didn't really want anything in particular this year. Both kids wanted new tv's, however ds "negotiated" with the store where he lives and he is getting the same Boxing Day sales price when he goes back up to his home in January. Dd bought her tv online at the Boxing Day sale price on Christmas Eve. So neither of them had to get up in the middle of the night to line up for hours to get the special Boxing Day pricing on their tv's.

They did get up before 6am though and hit the mall for a few other things they wanted. We met up with them at 9am and had a look around, but honestly the stores were having such good sales before Christmas, that the Boxing Day sales were basically the same as before Christmas.

I did pick up my usual Boxing Day sale items, Christmas cards and wrapping paper. However we were back home by just after 12 noon.

I think with the stores having the pre-Christmas sales, in the hopes of boosting sales in this recession and the ability now of ordering things online, I feel that our Boxing Day shopping trip will be a thing of the past.

Now for the mystery, I am doing a cross stitch at the moment, this is how much I have done. I should have it finished in a couple of days as its a super fast and easy picture. I will post the finished product when its completed.
