The first time I visited this dentist I didn't see him as he was "running late," second time a female dentist popped in had a quick look and left. This time I finally met "the man." Nice enough chap; very strong manly handshake; I commented on that and he offered to shake my hand again. I said no thank you as I need my fingers un-crushed so I can knit...he thought that was funny. He did his quick exam and left like the other one did.
Now back to the cleaning. The first thing I do when I sit on the chair is put my sunglasses on. They have LED lights and they are so bright, tears are streaming from my light sensitive eyes, if I don't protect them. She then offers me some mouth rinse, which of course I decline, as it tastes icky. She has to hand clean my teeth as I do not like the "pressure washer" way of cleaning the teeth. I have some what sensitive teeth and with that machine it has a habit of pointing out where my most sensitive areas are!
Then we have the question, "do you floss?"
My answer is always the same:
"Flossing to me is like running your nails down a chalk board. Please feel free to give me a lecture about it. I will take no notice of you, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead."
She giggled at this point and said fair enough.
The only time I will floss is when I have something stuck between my teeth and I need to remove it.
At the end they want to polish your teeth. Once again I decline as it tickles and it's icky. As I point out to them I am a like a cheap date as I only use half of their things.
She also checked my gums to see how big the "pockets" were. It turns out mine were fine other than the one "between my wisdom tooth and back tooth." I sat there digesting this news for a few seconds, then realized I don't have any wisdom teeth. I had them out years ago. I point this out and she says oh yes you're right.
Now this got me thinking............which means things will go down south very fast. I couldn't remember if dh had, had his wisdom teeth out and also couldn't remember if the kids had, had theirs out. What sort of wife and mother am I who doesn't remember these things????
So a flurry of emails went back and forth between the kids and I, which resulted in:
- daughter had hers out in her early 20's
- son-in-law has had his out
- daughter-in-law has had hers out and I actually remember that
- son hasn't had his out, but as he pointed out he has a big head and has plenty of room....that sort of made sense to me
- dh has no idea {{{SIGH}}} but like son he has a big head and I told him to ask when he is at the dentist.
- I had mine out after I had our son, but before I had our daughter and I do remember having an extra root in each tooth, otherwise everything was fine with the process
So there you are my 6 month visit to the dentist is over and done with. I had no cavities, everything is looking good and they'll see my at the end of July, poor things. I am one of those people who doesn't like going to the dentist but goes faithfully every six months; as these are the only teeth I have and they have to last me until I die.
However I would rather go to the dentist than have my eyes tested any day. That I dislike with a passion, as my eyes are so light sensitive.
Oh and I had a headache and toothache for the rest of the day, but that's normal after a visit to the dentist.
How often do you go to the dentist?
FINALLY - THANK YOU FOR ALL THE TIPS YESTERDAY. I CLEANED THE WASHING MACHINE AS SUGGESTED SO LETS HOPE THAT DOES THE TRICK.

I'm one of those rare folks who actually likes going to the dentist (that is, until something other than just a cleaning has to happen...). I had a terrific hygienist in Whitehorse - we laughed and chatted the whole time I was in the chair - and I always had my teeth hand cleaned. I've had those ultrasonic cleans before and did NOT like them one bit.
Having said that, I've been to the dentist exactly twice since arriving here and I have to say it's tricky to start fresh again. How do you know who to trust? I really liked the dental office I went to in Whitehorse, but I'm not so keen on the one I've chosen here. I may have to try a different practice - I'm feeling the need for a good clean. xx
shamefully admit it has been awhile since i have been to the dentist but I make the kids go faithfully. i actually have to take my youngest in to the dentist in about an hour
Like you I go 6 monthly and hate every minute of it.
I get my teeth cleaned every three months. The last time they did a deep cleaning because I have impossible pockets. I go again next week. I don't like going to the dentist. Or the eye doctor. Or the doctor. Or shopping. I am just a grumpy thing, it seems.
Sighs, I have been going every six months for the last little while. After the cleaning, and polishing my mouth aches for weeks. This time I will be going just before we leave on a trip..... Hope it isn't a problem for too long.
God bless.
Good Morning Gill: My dental coverage pays for a cleaning every nine months. I don't mind going to the dentist, if it just for a cleaning, extractions, that another thing. The dentist I have been going to for the past 20 or so years is retiring soon and has hired a new woman dentist in his office. She looked at my teeth the last time I was there. First impressions mean a lot to me and I was not impressed with her.
She is a foreign lady, tall, big boned and very imposing,(I have no problem with that) ( I am 5 ft. nothing, so everyone over 5ft 6 inches is tall to me LOL) however, she has a very heavy accent, and is difficult to understand. She measured my gums!!!! what's with that, they are getting old, nothing can be done about it if they are residing. Then she told me I should have some of my teeth capped because the fillings are showing......they are in the back of my mouth, only she has to look at them !!!! I got the feeling she was trying to make her fortune from my mouth.
Looking at my appointment book......yep you guessed it......Feb. 1st is dentist day.
Have a great day
Patricia
I go to the dentist every six months and actually just went for my cleaning about two weeks ago. They do the whole 9 yards to me, except for the mouthwash. It's icky. My husband jokes that it takes me twice as long to get my teeth cleaned as him because the hygienist and I joke and talk so much. I've had the same hygienist for about 10 years now and it's always fun catching up on her children. The dentist just comes in for his few minutes at the end but that's OK. I have more fun with the hygienist anyway!
Blessings,
Betsy
This is a follow up to your towel problem. We bought a new GE large capacity top loader. When the cycle is done the tub appears empty but if you jiggle the agitator you hear water sloshing inside the machine. The factory said that water remains inside to keep the seals wet. They said you have to leave the top open. I think the water that sits inside develops a musty odor that is passed into the first load. I only wash once a week so the first load is mixed with this old water. These new machines also use much less water so I don't think clothes rinse as well. I wish that I had been able to find a gently used older style machine.
I go once a year. I remember having my wisdom teeth yanked... I had a bad reaction to it.
I don't want to admit how long it's been since I have been to a dentist...and I do need to go but hate it with a passion.
My natural teeth were destroyed as a result of a car accident when I was 10, (tried to eat the dashboard) so dentist visits have been few and far between since. Not that I mind, there were more than enough immediately after the accident.
I head to the dentist every 9 months for a cleaning. I love my hygienist but she recently has changed the dentist she works with to one I don't care for. Chuck goes to a different practice altogether so I probably will change over to his. He really likes the dentist there.
Have a good weekend!
I go every 9 months now and it seems to be often enough. I've been told I have very good oral hygiene - yay! I'll do whatever I have to to stay away from the periodontist.
I'm the wrong person to ask about the dentist since I work in a dental office! But I'm glad your visit went well enough -- And I TOTALLY understand about the "power washing" and the flossing, I'm not the best at it either, I never have been... --Don't tell anyone! :-)!
I go every 6 months & hate it. Like you I have sensitive teeth & gums. I do floss nearly every night now to avoid having to have the horrendous jetwash done. It absolutely kills. I changed dentist when my last one told me I had pockets & needed to see the dental hygienist every 2 months! No chance! My new dentist doesn't have a dental hygienist, she does it all & said my gums were fine. She advised the flossing to avoid the cleaning so often & suggested the little sticks with the rubber thingies on the end. Much better than the string!
I am on the cusp of booking a dentist appointment for the first time in about seven years :/ pretty much dreading it!
