A relative went to a funeral for a man he knew. On the "programme" (can't remember the right name for it) there was a request that sort of went like this:
"Joe's cell phone number is still connected, please call it and leave a message for him. We will be burying it with him."
Personally I think that's creepy. I was telling dh about it and he said under no circumstances to do that with him. As I pointed out he never answers the phone at home anyway so it would be a total waste of time.
Meanwhile me and the lady who told me this story were killing ourselves laughing at the fact that if someone was walking through the cemetery and the cell phone started ringing from the grave they would be past themselves.
So do you want your cell phone buried with you? If I had to pick an item it would be my lap top!!!

I don't even want to be buried. I want to be cremated so I can come home and sit in a cupboard quietly until hubby passes and then we can be put together and the kids can do whatever they want with us lol
ugh very creepy and in poor taste but if that is what the deceased wanted, well guess it was the least they could do to honour him.
Odd, but then I keep my cell phone in the car for emergency only. I would liked to have killed a man yesterday over a cell phone while eating out. He was on the phone the entire time but that's a different can of worms
I too would choose my laptop, but there would have to be an extension cord and a hydro bill left for my family to pay. Still chuckling.
Oh I am sorry I am laughing thinking about the ringing in the cemetary at night when teenagers are visiting:)
Love the Cindy's comment today funny. Yes my laptop the cellphone would probably be ringing from telemarketers telling me I have won a trip or a cruise.:) B
What if he calls back?

Eeek
that's ridiculous! What were they smoking?
Interesting choice... Not my cup of tea, but hey, to each his own. That image of the phone ringing in the cemetery is pretty hilarious! I did write a letter to my Nana and put it in her casket before she was buried. I suppose it's kinda the same thing. I knew she couldn't read it, but it was everything I wanted to tell her, but couldn't because she was ill (dementia) when she passed away. I knew it was for me, rather than for her. I suppose the same could be said about phone messages. Even if you know the person won't hear them, you might want to say something.
Well that's a new one on me! I prefer texting lol!
I seldom have my cell phone with me, though I am trying to do better. I had to laugh thinking about someone walking through and it ringing...no, I wouldn't want it buried with me. More like my laptop or kindle....or my sewing machine. LOL
great story but not me , don't really like to talk on them anyway
That is definitely an odd request, but if I look at it from the family's point of view, it is very likely a way for them to feel that their loved one will be buried with messages of love from his family and fiends. I would not want my cellphone with me, what I would want are pictures of my loved ones. That is what we buried my father with, a picture of me that I put in his suit pocket above his heart along with a picture of my brother with he and my grandfather and his glasses, because he could not see a thing without them.
Umm... I hate using the cell phone as it is now, so definitely don't want it with me "afterwards". hahaha! I will take some of my fabric stash with me perhaps though.. ;) It'll keep me warm!
