Another Christmas over with.

We had a lovely time and we were lucky to get some lovely gifts, especially from the kids.  This is what was in the gift box from them:
A $25 Subway Gift Card.
A $50 Bistro Seven Seven Gift Card
A $50 The Crazy Fox Bistro Gift Card
A $25 Tim Horton's Gift Card
A $25 Bon Appetit Gift Card (Kelsey's, Harvey's, Montana's, Milestone's & Swiss Chalet)
A $25 William's Fresh Cafe Gift Card

We asked for gift cards to restaurants, and this is perfect.  We also got a $25 Bon Appetit from another couple.

We played The Game of Life and had a good time.  Will say it says it's for people age 9 +; we all thought it was confusing enough for adults remembering all the rules never mind children under 12.

I made a Butterball turkey, you cook if from frozen, so it took 6 hours to cook.  It was stuffed and I must say neither me nor dh were very impressed with it.  I prefer my own stuffing and a basic utility turkey; so back to that next year.  Will say it's a lot of work for a meal eaten in 20 minutes.

I think we all had a nap in the afternoon...........I blame it on the turkey, not getting old!!

Hoping to get some deals in the sale today.  Do you go shopping on Boxing Day?

I've had butterball turkeys in the past but always defrosted them. If you have to do it again, I'd defrost them. Since there's only the two of us I buy just turkey breasts, otherwise we'd be eating turkey for a month. We had a very nice day with some needed and small gifts. Had a friend from church join us. She has no local family. So it was a nice day.

Always a lot of work for 20 minutes then all the mess, is it not? Boxing Day shopping? I never usually have "extra" for that *smile*, and crowds? nope don't care for them either

our stores are closed on Boxing Day. I had the stuffed butterball turkey this year, tasted fine and cooked it from frozen. i don't usually stuff my turkey, wary of not cooking it enough. i did find it juicy.

Gill,
You received some great gifts.
I use to love shopping on boxing day with my Dad when we lived in Toronto. Here everything is closed and the next day I have to go back to work, so I'll miss all the great deals.
I always cook a fresh, locally raised turkey and It's delicious every time. 16 pounds is the average weight so there is always lots of left overs.

Eighteen family members sat down for dinner this year so I had a ham, with it made several casseroles, potato, turnip, green bean, corn, brussel sprouts. While putting all of this on the table, I knew something was missing----in the fridge was a broccoli casserole---for to put in the oven. A lot of work for 20 min, you've got it.
Glad you had a great day, I did also.
Nice an quiet today.

We have always used Butterball turkeys but we always thawed first and never bought the ones that were already stuffed -- too much room to have something spoil. Love the idea of the gift cards to restaurants --I gave a few myself! Sounds like you had a lovely holiday.

Sounds like a great day Gill.

You're right it's a lot of work & money for one meal but it's such a special one you don't mind so much. It's really 2 meals for us as on Christmas Day my daughter & family come to us & my son & family come on Boxing Day & my daughter & granddaughter come back for second helpings.

My husband buys a free range fresh turkey & I leave it to him to cook as my daughter & I don't eat meat.

Just been watching the Boxing Day shopping madness on the news. I couldn't face going out on Boxing Day if they gave it away free! I like to think I'm saving more money by not going to the sales. I just don't need anything.

Those gift cards will be great for throughout the year! :) What a fun gift! We had the same stuffed Butterball turkey... Hubby got it as his "bonus", so we used it, otherwise I'd do the same as you, plain turkey & own stuffing. Glad you had a nice Christmas! :)
