Saturday down the basement.......

So woke up to miserable weather on Saturday, snowing and very windy!!  A great day to work in the basement.

So me and dh spent most of the day putting up the tar paper in the "new" basement.  Now we did have to take a break as we ran out of supplies, so had to run out for them.  Putting tar paper on the walls is not as easy as it sounds.  We could have done with an extra pair of hands, but once we got going it sort of came together not too bad.  We are hoping to finish it off on Sunday afternoon, depending on how long dh has to work on Sunday.

This photo is looking to the south side of the basement. The window is bigger it's just partially covered in tar paper.  Molly came downstairs for a look.......we bought all the insulation last year to do the attic and that is what is leftover.  We hope to have enough to complete the basement.

This is looking towards the north side of the basement.  Most of that end of the basement will be my new laundry room.  Again the window is a lot bigger when it's not covered with tar paper.  Oh and yes that is dh is the background!!

These are the patio doors leading from the basement.

Now it would be a big help if we could clear out some of the mess in there and so give us more room, but at this point, that isn't happening.

All we want to achieve at the moment, is to insulate the walls to make it warmer down there.  Then in the New Year we are going back to the attic with the hopes of getting that finished in the Spring.

The sun came out later in the morning and shone all day, it was a lovely day, cold but very sunny.

Lots of work to do but isn't nice when you can see the results of your labours! Is the tar paper for damp prevention?
The view over the countryside is just spectacular, you lucky thing.

So Molly makes a good supervisor, huh? Bet she's already picking out her spot. Have fun with the insulation. ~Liz

You're both doing a marvelous job at getting things done, and I agree about the view. Absolutely beautiful! Great photos and love Molly. Nice to see your hubby in a picture too.

Gill,
Looks like you and Hubby have your work cut out for you. We are also going to start to tackle the basement which is totally unfinished.
Why the tar paper on the concrete wall first? Is it like a water vapor prevention I have never seen this done here. We have lots of tar paper so maybe before we start it might be a good idea also.

Hi Gill,
I haven't visited here for a while, i like the changes you've made.
Love the view out the basement door. I can't imagine having a basement - they're pretty much non existent here. It would be lovely to have that extra space.

Looks like a big job, but "slow & steady" is the way to go! :) I agree that making the room warmer should be priority! Good luck with it all!

Hi Gill!! Maybe Molly was down there trying to give you that extra hand, or paw! ;-)

Turning cold here too in Virginia. I saw snow flurries yesterday and sent them back in your direction--Hope that was okay!
