What a carry on at the Acreage on Tuesday.....

My goal for Tuesday was to dig the veggie garden. So that is what I did. While I was doing that there was such a carry on, as the birds were squawking and making a heck of a noise. It turns out we have two chipmunks, NOT squirrels and I take it they like to attack the birds nests, which we have many on the property. Anyhow, all that noise and carry on resulted in a baby bird dying, I found the body on the front lawn. What a shame, I did think of having a formal burial for the birdie, but my poor back was killing me, so I hurled it in the field behind us. I think I will have to have a little chit chat with those chipmunks, as this is a peaceful property, not one of lawlessness and bloodbaths!!

As I said I spent the day digging the veggie patch and digging around by the rhubarb. I had four saplings, Douglas Fir's I think, and decided to make a little tree nursery by the rhubarb, so I could keep an eye on them for a year or two before I plant them in their permanent homes.

I had hoped to take photos of my progress but I have gone and hurt my back.......I was so engrossed in what I was doing today, that I lost track of time and despite the fact I know I cannot dig all day that is what I did and now I am in pain. I am praying and hoping that a good nights sleep and some painkillers will do the job, but I better lay off the digging for a couple of days. Dh is not happy with the condition I am in!!!

Also this crazy weather is confusing the heck out of me. When I went out at 8:30am this morning, I was wearing my jogging pants, a sweatshirt, a jacket and a woollen hat. By lunch time I had taken the hat and the jacket off. After lunch I replaced the sweatshirt with a t-shirt and put my sun hat on. Lets hope this weather stays warm and I don't have to put the heating back on!!!

Oh those rotten ants are back, now in the family room, on the window??? Plus there were some on the window sill in the kitchen again. So have spread powder all over again. Those ants are going to be the death of me, I swear. Oh and did you hear me let out a scream today? There was a frog in the grass by the front deck!!! I know I only squealed when I saw the snake, but I screamed when I saw the frog. Guess which one I am more frightened of...LOL

I will take photos of my veggie patch tomorrow, if my back is alright.

Wasn't there any action to choose between a formal burial and a 'hurling'? I hope my relations don't have the same dilemma when I die!

Garlic cloves for the ants honestly!!

Be careful with the trees and the rhubarb..dont put them too close. Many Conifers have very acidic needles and exude chemicals from the roots to prevent plant competition lol..sure you knew that anyway.

Country life is not that relaxing this time of the year, but how lovely it is (even tho I have been up since 5 to do the weeding before it gets too hot hehe).

After nearly losing my breakfast from laughing to hard at your cavalier hurling of the birdie, I took a breath and finished reading...I hope your back improves...my predicament is if I bend over my back hurts and if I squat I get leg cramps..what's a girl to do? Get someone else to do the planting of course! hope the weather holds nice for you!

Not toosure about putting garlic in your iving room lol...try to work out where you think they are coming in and put it there...usually around the sink area or washing machine if that helps.
We have sparrow love triangles going on under our roof...Ms Sparrow has two Mr sparrows on the go...no idea which one the chicks belong to..occassional the males meet up taking food and then the blood bath begins.
Who said life in the country was boring lol

The weather is wonky alright. Usually just tie the wool sweater around my waist when it warms up. Sure to need it again in twenty minutes. Not always the weather man's fault. :)

We sprinkle some kind of powder for ants, all around the foundation of our house. Then where, what I call weep holes, are at, I spray with an ant spray. We get these little brown ants, that I can remember when I was a kid, everyone called them piss ants, why I have no idea. That seems to take care of them. Otherwise this time of the year they seem to come in under the woodwork around the floor. Our house is brick.
