Bats - Well for those of you who live in the country, I bet you were wondering when I would mention bats. Well every night at around 9:45pm there is a scurry of activity outside of our bedroom window. It turns out we have bats :0O Now I have been told I should be happy I have bats as they eat a lot of mosquitoes. Which is all well and good, but do I want them living in our attic??? Not too sure about that, and to be honest with us pulling the attic to bits, not sure how long they will be hanging around anyhow.
Black Flies - I now have to huge black fly bites on either side of my neck. I don't know why they didn't just go for my jugular and put me out of my misery!!
Bone Weary - As I am typing this on Thursday night I am bone weary. Not sure why, I spent the afternoon cleaning the family room from top to bottom as it was filthy. This time it was saw dust, last week it was soot. I am beginning to tire of the mess. The two guys who put in the windows and doors were super nice, but one of them wasn't as tidy as the other. Now this is my opinion so feel free to give me yours, the guy who wasn't tidy is a bachelor in his late 40's to early 50's. When he was eating or drinking he dropped crumbs everywhere and slurped his coffee. He walked through the house with his muddy boots on. I found he made a mess where he was working. I tend to find men who are married tend to be a bit more tidier when they are working around the house......otherwise they get heck from their wives!!!
I know I owe you photos of the windows and patio doors, but don't have the energy tonight. Dh got a bit more of the plaster and lathe pulled off on Thursday night. We are going to burn the wood on Sunday from the attic and from putting the windows in. Saves us having to pay to have it removed.

We lived with bats in our attic for 30 years! We sold the house three years ago to a BBC wildlife expert - he was delighted with the bats! I hated them - do not mean to frighten you but they would swoop in the open bedroom windows at night - argghh!!!
I cant leave the house after 5 pm on sunny days cus we have the tiniest midges which leave me the largest bites in the world.
The mess will go...it is all part of doing up a house. Here in ROI, builders dont believe in cleaning up...it wasnt part of their training. They even tipped old cement into my garden onto the lawn.
Shut the door, walk away and leave it till another day, when you are feeling a little more rested.
Go through your blog and see how much you have already achieved!
Oh Gill, I enjoy having a chuckle reading this bats, fly and bone weary... hahaha....
messy bachelor and tidy married men... poor thing. he needs a wife to look after him and a wife who yell afterwards ...hahaha such is life.
shall I count my blessing for no one to look after for and yell afterwards? hahaha
well, as to burning the woods, the ashes (lime) will be put into good use in the garden. Fertilizer! just don't put too much! My late mother used them around fruit trees.
I do think you need to bend a little bit...
Cheers!
EEKS! Actually your purple martins will take care of the mosquitoes.
Messy men? Ha! Some just come that way, even marriage won't fix them.
I think you will need a vacation before too long.
If you have bats, I'm sorry to say they won't leave. They get under the eaves. Wait until you get one in your house. I hate them with a passion....needless to say we've had them in our home 3 times. We now have a porch light on...they don't like light so so far this year none in the house.
Now like everyone else has said, take a day of rest. Look back and see all that you have achieved. Don't burnout my friend and then not be able to enjoy your new home. hugs
Make or buy a bat house, attach to a tree or building away from the house. I'm sure they will start using it when you start work on the attic.
Oh boy, you do need a break. You've certainly had a lot to deal with and now the bats (even though they're good for the ecology), black flies (still trying to find out what's good about them) and died-in-the-wool bachelor guys with dirty boots, God bless their obliviousness to everyone else's 'you've got to be kidding me' looks. All I can say is, this too will pass :) but first you need to be kind yourself and take a few days off. It will always be there waiting but by that time you'll have gotten your much needed rest.
Uh-oh! An infestation of bats is never a good thing no matter how much you like bats. They do carry diseases with them. It would be best to call an exterminator to get rid of them. They would know how best to handle them and get them out without hurting or killing them.
