Random things................

Missed my blogging anniversary again, I started blogging on May 19th, 2008.  This post is my 2,439th, and I have had 1,132,507 (as of yesterday afternoon) page views during that time.  Here's to many more blogging years ahead of me.

Got an email from the property management office.  Do you know I sigh when I see one of these in my inbox now, as I wonder what on earth is happening now.  Part of this one said:

THE WATERING POLICY IS AS FOLLOWS:

May 1st to September 30th

  1. Even numbered houses may water on even numbered days and odd numbered houses on odd numbered days
  2. The hours for watering are from
8:00 pm to 10:00 pm ONLY

NO MORNING/ AFTERNOON WATERING

I sent them an email back saying this:

"Well that's silly those times. Why can't we water early morning?  We are early to bed and very early risers. "

Now we don't go to bed at 8 pm, but by that time of night, we are settled in, probably sitting in our P.J's watching tv.  I do not want to be outside watering my gardens.  It will be interesting to see if they allow morning watering's which is what I do and what I will continue to do regardless of the policy.

Went to Barrie on Wednesday morning to spend some gift cards and called in at McDonald's for a cup of coffee and a muffin.  $1.75 for a small coffee and muffin, plus you get a sticker to put on your card, so every 8th coffee is free.  Can't beat that deal.
It was a fresh fruit salad type of day on Wednesday, as I had a lot of leftover fruit laying around.
Still have a large piece of watermelon as well in the fridge.  Nothing says summer weather like watermelon.
Speaking of the weather, the annuals have had to be covered the past couple of nights due to the risk of frost.  Dh has had to scrape the frost of the windows of his truck in a morning.

Talking of windows.........the window cleaners are here to do their twice yearly cleaning of our windows.  Fat lot of good it will do as these trucks are still wandering back and forward, stirring up all the dust.
Finally, got the window guys back again to see about repairing our basement windows.  Would you believe we have been in this house nearly a year?  I will do another post about our year end report that we have to submit to the builder.......as I have a "few" things to say!!!

A Huge thank you everyone for your opinions.

I spoke to Frigidaire and got no where...no surprise there.  They said it was because I keep my fridge at 1 oC and that is why I have the problem; which by the way is a lot of bull.   As I pointed out there must be a heck of a lot of people who keep their fridge at the wrong temperature as there are a lot of people who have posted on the internet having the same problem.

I have the appliance repair guy coming over on Wednesday to deal with the issue and he is going to give my fridge a thorough going over so that we can make doubly sure that it's not something else.

I also have my secret weapon....DH....he brought home a gun thingy that measures the temperature of everything.  Very interesting, and I will make sure the appliance guy writes it all down.  I turned my fridge up to 3 oC as per Frigidaire and the different items in the fridge ranged in temperature from 1 oC in the "cool drawer" up to 7 oC.  That is quite a difference if you ask me.  This is not the end of the issue, I will keep you updated.

As far as the warranty situation goes, I have until the 12th of June to sort something out.  I have more or less made up my mind to take out an extended warranty on the fridge.  That is an expensive item and as we have had problems already I feel it would be prudent to take out the warranty.  I am undecided about the stove, again that was over $2,000 for that so it may be worthwhile.

I am also dealing with window issues.  Three on the main floor need adjustments, so not a big issue, it's the two sliders in the basement which I am very worried about.  I cannot open them at all.  Dh struggled to open them, he struggled even more to close them and they are not fully closed and therefore not locked.  Dh reckons the house has settled and has moved the windows out of square.  Goodness knows how they are going to mend them.

I would have normally left this to year end, but feel this is an issue that needs dealing with sooner rather than later.  I have a guy coming on Wednesday to go over any deficiencies.  I am not 100% clear about the ins and outs of this, but when filling out the forms we seemed to have a number of things to note.  So it should be an interesting day Wednesday, what with this guy, the appliance guy and I have the site super coming over to look at the basement windows.

So today I am going to my sit and knit session to relax (I hope). I am on with the custard yellow colour now, so moving along nicely.  I do still however want to learn how to crochet.  I am also putting together another quilt top.  I will share photos with you on Wednesday.

Bats, Black Fly and bone weary.....

Bats - Well for those of you who live in the country, I bet you were wondering when I would mention bats. Well every night at around 9:45pm there is a scurry of activity outside of our bedroom window. It turns out we have bats :0O Now I have been told I should be happy I have bats as they eat a lot of mosquitoes. Which is all well and good, but do I want them living in our attic??? Not too sure about that, and to be honest with us pulling the attic to bits, not sure how long they will be hanging around anyhow.

Black Flies - I now have to huge black fly bites on either side of my neck. I don't know why they didn't just go for my jugular and put me out of my misery!!

Bone Weary - As I am typing this on Thursday night I am bone weary. Not sure why, I spent the afternoon cleaning the family room from top to bottom as it was filthy. This time it was saw dust, last week it was soot. I am beginning to tire of the mess. The two guys who put in the windows and doors were super nice, but one of them wasn't as tidy as the other. Now this is my opinion so feel free to give me yours, the guy who wasn't tidy is a bachelor in his late 40's to early 50's. When he was eating or drinking he dropped crumbs everywhere and slurped his coffee. He walked through the house with his muddy boots on. I found he made a mess where he was working. I tend to find men who are married tend to be a bit more tidier when they are working around the house......otherwise they get heck from their wives!!!

I know I owe you photos of the windows and patio doors, but don't have the energy tonight. Dh got a bit more of the plaster and lathe pulled off on Thursday night. We are going to burn the wood on Sunday from the attic and from putting the windows in. Saves us having to pay to have it removed.

Wednesday at the Acreage.........

Now as I am writing this I am either going to be high as a kite, or end up with a migraine, not sure which at the moment!!! The reason being is that we had the new windows and patio doors installed today, and the smell is wicked/nasty. Not sure what its coming from, but it has to do with the window and doors. They look awesome and such a difference from the old ones. They have to do the trim and finishing off on Thursday and I will then post some photos.

I saw a woodpecker tonight, but by the time I had gone to get my camera it had flown away. I also saw a beautiful red cardinal the other day, again the same thing, by the time I had got my camera it had flown away.

We need to get a skylight installed in the attic, so dh pulled off some of the plaster and lathe so we could see how big the gaps were between the wood. What a nasty dirty job, but he got an awful lot pulled off in an hour.

I got the rest of the field cut without being attacked by birds and other wildlife. Its a short post today as its been a busy day........

What I was up to at the acreage on Friday.........

Well I have decided Friday's are a busy day on the acreage, as I have a routine that I like to stick too, and on a Friday I change our bed, clean the bathrooms and do laundry. Then I do what ever else needs to be done. Since moving here, for some reason I end up with two huge loads of laundry, therefore two huge piles of ironing. I have now started to go grocery shopping on a Friday as we are generally busy on the weekend.

Also as the weather was fine on Friday, that meant I had to tackle more of the grass cutting. I am pleased to say as of Friday night, only Kamikaze Hill and amongst the raspberries is the only thing left to cut. However, I still have all the edging to do and I did make a start on using the regular lawn mover where the lawn tractor won't go.

I have a horrible sinking feeling by the time I have got it all done, it'll be all to do again!!!! I actually did something bad today, I ran over the lawn in front off the house with a really low blade, so basically scalped the lawn, only in the hopes I won't have to cut it for a while!!! I know that isn't the answer but we have rain forecast for Saturday, so it won't do it any harm.

Also come to the conclusion, when the weather is nice, I have to be in the garden trying to stay on top of it all. When the weather is bad then I get my housework done.

My friend "K" popped by today with a quote for the windows and doors. He has got the guy organized to come by the beginning of next week to do the roof. Told dh about the quote and he called "K" to say it was too expensive. "K" left a message and has managed to reduce it by $700, so I am a bit happier now. Still a pile of money, but its a job that has to be done. The family room windows and the patio doors have been in since 1974, so I think they have paid their way, don't you?

As I said I have started to go grocery shopping on a Friday. As I had ran the freezer down I am having to stock up again. So once again the grocery bill was over $100 :0( Still the freezer is starting to fill up and I have enough bread for a month now in there.

One thing I do know that since we have moved to this house the days just fly by. I get up in a morning, then before you know it, it's supper time. I love it, and I love where we live!!!

Peaches........

Over the weekend a dear friend dropped off some Ontario Peaches for me.  She got them from the Niagara region.  She goes down there from Bra...
