Oops :00

Well all I can say is I didn't mean too..........I broke the blade, actually badly dented it, on the lawn tractor today. Dh was not impressed. I ran over a brick that was hiding in the grass, not sure how I had missed it in the past, but today I ran over it. So got on the phone to Sears to order a couple blades at $24.99 each :0( They are supposed to be here in 5 to 7 business days. So I guess in between hands there will be no grass cutting for me. Mind you that doesn't excuse me from the garden, as there is still plenty to do.

Oh and dh discovered the ants in the kitchen again; dh was not impressed!! So he was all in a tizzy about that. I had thought I had got rid of them, but no they seem to have materialized again. I bought some spray killer, and am going to spray that all around the window ledge in the kitchen as that is where they are coming in at, though not exactly sure where.

We are also getting a lot of house flies, we call them bluebottles, in the house. I have no idea where they are coming from, does anyone have the same problem? Remember when we moved into the house the windows were full of dead flies. So I wonder if this is another problem we have inherited?

This is more for the people on this side of the ocean, are you watching John and Kate Plus 8 tonight? I am not sure what their big announcement will be, but would love it to be they are pulling the plug on the series so they can work on re-building their marriage and family again. Some how or other I don't see that happening do you? One thing I do know, the ratings for the show, will be sky high again.

No more suicide hill for you (at least for 5-7 days)!!! WOOT!! You should spread bricks haphazardly around the yard for when you are tired of mowing...

Flies are a problem here in summer too. We have to keep smaller amounts of pet food out in the dishes on that account and frequently wash down all the deck and walkways.

Such a pretty house you have. Love the fieldstone.

Sounds like you have given yourself an enforced rest from mowing OR the fairies in the garden that moved the brick there did.
So what is happening in Jon & Kate or course here in Australia the shows are usually a bit behind what you would be. I have Pay T.V though so maybe we're not.

Gill, for the ants we found a fantastic product in the States called Terro. It worked incredibly. Might be worth the drive....
enjoying reading all about your goings on!

the best insect stop measure are diazion crystals...they come in bags/sacks. we put them around the perimeter of the house and have no insects/ants what have you inside.
you might try that. we swear by it.

if you need more info, email me

Gill, look outside where your windows are and check to see if there might be a tiny place the ants can come through. As to the flies, we have them too. I think it's all a part of country living.

Sorry to hear about the blade. At least you'll get a rest from cutting the grass for a few days.

Hot weather heading your way!!

Oh Connie, I wish I could do that, but at $25 a pop for the blades, dh would not be happy.

I am glad I am not the only one with fly problems!!!

Thanks everyone for all your comments and tips.

Try also spraying around the foundation of the house for the ants.

We also get those pesky flies, certain times of the year, we can't figure out where they come in at, they seem to collect in the front window, it's a bow window and the sun hits it all afternoon. We have already left the house, not a fly in sight, come back an hour later and there will be 12 or more, moving very slowly, so slow I can squish them with a paper towel. The house isn't open and the A/C is on, but they still show up. They are a real pain and we haven't found a solution yet.

Of course we were told to find where they are coming in, right and how do you do that. I told my husband I think they hatch out in adult form. LOL

Forgot to comment on Jon and Kate. I'm sure they'll go their separate ways, BUT they signed a contract for so many shows, and they'll probably have to honor the contract. Plus they got their big new home and someone has to pay for it. That's what happens when you think of fortune and so called fame.

Your life changes forever and you can't have a minutes piece to go out and do something as a couple or as a family with out the cameras following you all around.

Kate can get a little demanding at times. She's a take charge kind of person and Jon just seems to go along with it all.

I love your new home. We had a problem with ants and a friend that runs a pest control business told us to spray the area (you think they come in at) with clorox bleach mixed with a very small amount of water. It did work for us,maybe give it try. If you have Maple trees near your home that could also be the source of the problem, they thrive in the tree root especially after rain.

I'm with you on John and Kate. They really need time for themselves. The media gets a hold of them, chews them up and then spits them out. They had such good intentions but who could survive under the media blitz.
