Photos of the spare bedroom

I bet you thought I had forgotten about them?  I finally got around to posting the photos of the spare bedroom.  I have painted it a light cream colour, as the two windows in the room face east and north, so it only gets a little morning sun.

This shows the closet.  There are shelves (16 inches deep) in the right hand side of the closet, from floor to ceiling.
In the baskets is my quilting material.  They will move upstairs to the attic when we get that finished.
We installed the fan and light.
My mam sent this rug over with my brother for me.  It's a rag rug made out of fleece and is lovely.  A lady makes them for charity in Britain.  When I first got it I put it down in the family room and within minutes Molly had her squirrel and hedgehog on it and she then plopped herself down on it; so it got Molly's seal of approval also.

The only thing left to do in the spare bedroom is some varnishing.  I plan on doing it next week.

On Friday both dh and I got a few good jobs done.  He moved a pile of gravel under the mudroom, and got the remainder of the electrical work done in our bedroom.  He then ran some errands in town which was also a good job done.

I got two out of three loads of laundry done, the bathrooms cleaned, and hoovered through.  In the afternoon I went to town and got my hair cut (finally) and had a pedicure.  For the first time ever I got a flower painted on each of my big toes.

It's the first time I have been to this nail place.  Not sure if I will go there again.  I am picky about how clean a nail place is, as I did pick up a nail fungus at a place a few years ago.  This place was okay, but not the cleanest.  Also the girl I got didn't do the greatest of jobs.  PLUS and this is the big one, my appointment was at 1:30 pm and they were running so far behind I went for a haircut while I was waiting.  It was probably closer to 2:30 pm before they started doing my feet.  By the time I got home it was 3:45 pm.  If I made an appointment for something I expect to be seen at that time......other than at the doctor, where the doctor will be late for his own funeral as he is never on time.

It's Labour Day weekend here in Canada and the States.  So of course the weather sucks, rain all weekend, but at least it won't be stinking hot!!  I know in Britain you had your Bank Holiday last weekend; hoped you enjoyed that, and for those of you who have a long weekend this weekend, enjoy yours!

Bit of history about the house, and other stuff.

I went to visit the archives at our local museum on Tuesday afternoon to see if I could find anything out about the house. It was pretty interesting. I have always said our house was built in 1907, however I discovered it was built in 1911.

Here is the story. On March 4th, 1846 the Crown "gave" 100 acres to a John Robinson. Why I say "gave" as the records don't show any money exchanging hands, but there was a Patent fee. Patent fees were around 5 shillings per acre, like a tax. So John Robinson may have paid 25 Pounds in Patent fees, although there is no record of that. British curency was in use until around 1858, see this link

In 1854 it was sold to William Robinson, then passed on to his son John Robinson in 1896, and in turn to his son Harold in 1929.

In 1907 the barn was burned when struck by lightening and was rebuilt.

In 1911 they built the stone house, the one which we live in, and vacated the small log house where all the Robinson family were born.

In February of 1954 the farm was purchased from Harold Robinson, by his daughter and son-in-law. They already owned a farm a few hundred yards down the road from our house.

In December of 1953, they severed the house and 5 acres from the 100 acres and sold it to A. Perry.

Now that is as far as I have got, as I now need to go to the Land Registry Office to find out what's what . I may go down there next week. Interesting eh?

I can't wait to start on the Genealogy, but that's having to wait until we get the new Internet on November 11th.

I went to have a pedicure also on Tuesday morning. I had one Herbal Essences coupon left for a free pedicure, and as it expired on October 31st, I figured I may as well use it. So now I have blood red toe nails. As usual I got a lecture about how I must put cream on the bottom of my feet as they are like sandpaper!! She had to get the razor blade out to cut off the icky skin on the bottom of my feet.

I just pray and hope I didn't block the septic system up on Tuesday morning, as I also shaved my legs, figured I better had as they were a tad on the hairy side, not long enough to braid, but still long, and as I had to expose the bottom of my legs when I get a pedicure, I thought I should make an effort. I don't class it a priority shaving my legs!! Poor Linda has just keeled over at this point. Linda is the lady I worked with, who takes great pride in her appearance.

Outside the salon was parked a Bentley car, very fancy dancy. It turns out a doctor (male) owned it, and he was in for his regular $150 anti aging facial!!!! Must be nice to be able to spend $150 on a facial, don't you think?

One of the big news stories in our area is about a healthy 13 year old dying of swine flu, see here I never get the regular flu shot, and don't honestly see me getting the H1N1 shot despite this happening. How about you?

Tuesday - A day away from the Acreage....

I had the honour of being invited to my neighbour "R's" swearing in ceremony for becoming a Canadian citizen on Tuesday morning. It was in Mississauga, which is where I used to work and is a pretty big city of around 700,000 people. It was held at the busiest citizenship court in the country. 107 people were sworn in from 24 countries, including the States, which I thought was very strange, an American becoming a Canadian?

R's dh sat with me and I sat next to a lovely man from Nepal, his wife was being sworn in. R's co-workers had given her a "I'm Proud to be a Canadian" red t-shirt, which she wore. I am sure the judge probably commented on it. Must say it was a long ceremony, it took an hour and a half just to get everyone processed and seated. We became Canadian citizens back in 1993. I had a little chuckle though, as you could have your photo taken with the judge and the police officer at the end. So R and her dh went up and insisted I go with them. So that confused the heck out of the judge as he thought we were two families, as R and her dh are Indian and I am white. Funny thing is, when we are together I totally forget we are from different backgrounds. I don't even notice the strange looks that people give us anymore, as R and I are so close, like a mother and daughter relationship, so we are talking up a storm whenever we are together.

We had to be there for 8:30am so I had to set off around 7am to get there, and had to travel through rush hour. I have to say I don't miss travelling in the rush hour, as its stop and go the whole way. I saw so many police cars also. Will admit I don't miss it, all the traffic and the people. It made me realize how lucky we are to have the Acreage, even with all its problems.

Although I did go to Chapters to pick up the June issue of the Prima magazine, as that is the only place I know where I can buy it. I also picked up the OK! magazine, the June 9th issue. I like to catch up with the celebrity gossip! I also had a pedicure while I was down in the area, as I still have a couple of coupons for free pedicures, from the Herbal Essences promotion last year.

I got home just before 4pm, and will say I was pooped, but it made a lovely change, and gave my car a good run out, which it hasn't had in a long time. So now back to normal!!

Will I never learn?????

Remember this post about me having some waxing done? Well would you know it on Tuesday off I trot to the salon for a pedicure and waxing. Am I stupid, I must be, as I whined like crazy last time.........I still remember the pain..........and here I am again having it done. I not only get my upper lip waxed, I know a moustache on women in some countries is attractive Canada and the US isn't one of them, I get my bikini line waxed, plus my WHOLE legs?????

Now lets just say I'm no slim Jim. Thunder thighs would be a good description of my upper legs. So I lay down and she take one look at those gorgeous long svelte legs (I WISH) and decides that not only does she need the 10 gallon pail of wax to cover the amount of flesh, but with the amount of hair growing on those legs, she had better get the industrial strength wax out, and for good measure lets heat it up to boiling point so its an experience to remember..........

Okay, I am kidding about the 10 gallon pail and the industrial strength........I am barely kidding about it being molten wax.........at least I had the fore sight to tell her to blow on the wax to cool it down a bit before putting it on my top lip. That's all I need is third degree burns on my upper lip, what an attractive sight that would be? Then she mutters something about using a shovel to put on the wax with.......again joking!!!

Now the girl doing the waxing and pedicure is called Thu, she's a lovely little thing, but she insists on calling me Gillian with a hard "G", instead of "J." Anyhow she says, Gillian lay down and just have a nap while I do this. So I lay down and it just dawns on me what she said, "Have a nap." So up I pop again and say "People actually sleep through a waxing???" She then laughs and says "I was joking." I don't find it as funny as she does?

Anyhow, off she goes and honestly there are worse things in life...........not many things, but there are worse things in life. I was particularly sensitive just above the ankle, which I thought was a little unusual. Then all around the bikini line, that's still torturous, and the bit between your leg and bum.

Suffice to say I have survived the whole experience and now have hairless legs, so at least I won't have to shave my legs daily for the first week, plus I have lovely pinky/mauve toenails. Oh and best of all, my feet are so soft now, its freaky, I can normally sand a wall down with my rough heels.

So that's it no more waxing for me, enough of this pain...........well at least until next time ;0)

Well let's try this again........

I'm back, feeling a whole lot better (fingers, toes and everything crossed!) and hoping to stay that way!! Just felt all out of sorts th...
