Hotel Stay - Dinner

As part of our hotel stay the kids had booked us dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea.

Here is what we ate at dinner.  Everything was spot on, just perfect.  We ordered from the Winter special menu, which was part of the hotel package stay.  Here is a link to the menu choices we had.  Ours was the first one at the Noble restaurant.

Hubby, had mushrooms on toast, of course it was fancier than that!!!  It was really good he said.

I had the soup of the day, which was roasted red pepper with goat cheese.  It was really good, rich and creamy.

Hubby had the steak and he said it was cooked perfectly.

I had salmon on a sunchoke puree.  Never had sunchoke before, tasted of nothing really very bland.  But it went well with the salmon.  That was the best piece of salmon I have ever had.

This was the dessert menu we got to choose from.

Hubby had the maple walnut tart.  He said it was okay.

I had the creme brulee, which was and is my number one choice!!  It was to die for.  The cranberry cookie, was so, so.

Everyone in the restaurant was either celebrating a birthday or anniversary it seemed.  Hubby had a glass of wine with his meal, I just had water.  They brought homemade chocolates at the end, but we were just too full and I took them to the hotel room.

Now, have you heard the expression, that your eyes are greedier than your stomach?  Well that's how we felt as we waddled back up to the room.  We were full to bursting.  We went to bed at our normal time, as hubby is not well at the moment, and it had been a busy day.

At around 11:45 pm I woke up with a terrible bad stomach.  I had the worst stomach upset, that caused me to be in the bathroom for 45 minutes.  Came back to bed and woke up again at 5am to go back to the bathroom.  Hubby slept awful because of this chest and cold issue.  We both felt like death warmed over.  We decided to go downstairs to have some breakfast.

I wanted some oatmeal to coat my stomach and hubby wanted his usual toast.  Here is the breakfast menu.  Neither of us could stomach anything on that menu.  So when we ordered what we ordered, I don't think the server was happy, but we didn't care.

Also we ended up canceling the afternoon tea, as we were so over having food.  The thought of having afternoon tea just made my stomach churn even more than it was doing.  We checked out after breakfast and drove home.

We had thought that the breakfast was included in the package, but it was extra.  If we had known that we would have called in at a Tim Hortons on the way home and not incur further costs for the kids.  But the kids had arranged for everything to be charged to them.

We got home before lunch time on Saturday and never moved from the living room, other than when I went for a nap which is something I never do, but I felt rotten.

We had the best time ever, but the food was just so rich, and our bodies aren't used to it. 

I am writing this post on Monday morning and my stomach is still iffy.  Hubby is as sick as a dog and is not at work.

It was a super treat to stay at the hotel and that dinner was perfect.

Sometimes miracles do happen.......

In my case, I actually wrote up a menu plan for this coming week:

Notice however there are no days of the week before each entry, but there are seven days dinner's/supper's there.

Went shopping on Friday morning at our local Zehrs and made out like a bandit with the 50% off selection.

Got a chicken pot pie for $3 and that will give us two meals for dh and I.  Got a cauliflower for $1, so while I cooked the pie on Friday night, I also roasted the cauliflower at the same time.

I got some stewing beef for just over $3, that is why the beef bourguignan is on the menu.  The beef sauce/pasta sauce was on for $1.99 which along with half price stuffed pasta will make another yummy meal.

I am itching to try this Red Lentil and Kale Curry recipe and this Curried Butternut Squash Soup.  I lucked out as our local Zehrs had the PC Brand of frozen veggies on sale for $1.77 a bag, so will be using the frozen veg in both these recipes.  I personally don't have a problem using frozen veggies in recipes.  I bought this package to use in the Lentil and Kale Curry:

Dh loves Omelette's and they are so easy to whip up with a salad.  So all in all I am happy with what is planned for meals.

For dessert we generally have a quarter of a sugar free jello/jelly package (made up obviously😏) with fruit added in it.  Sometimes with yogurt, sometimes just on its own.

I may make cheese scones using this recipe over the weekend, as they look so good and simple to make.

Do you use frozen veggies, or do you prefer fresh?

Update on insurance and my speech at the wedding and the menu from the wedding........

Got word yesterday that everything is going to be covered for step-father's medical expenses while in hospital.  So a big worry lifted off of our shoulders.

I thought you may be interested in seeing my speech from the wedding.  People at the wedding said it was okay:

Hello and welcome everyone. I hope you are enjoying your meal so far?


A couple of months ago we were having dinner here with B parents, C and L; along with C and B. The subject of giving speeches came up and I said I was giving the speech from our side of the family, but wasn’t sure what to say. C (B dad) said the speech was to welcome B into our family.
As I pointed out B has been around for the past 11 years now, so if he doesn’t feel like part of the family by now he never will do? However, in keeping with tradition, B, I officially welcome you into the T side of the family.

R my husband is a man of few words, but he always stressed to B that if he were to marry C he had to ask his permission. So imagine our surprise when we got a telephone call a week before Christmas telling us he was popping over and NOT to tell C. When you came over and asked our permission to ask C to marry you, we were thrilled. Though the look on R face hid that fact well.

I can’t remember what R said, but it must have been yes, but my answer was, “Well it’s about flipping time.” I will add that was also the longest week of my life, as I couldn’t tell anyone what was going to happen on Christmas morning. R being the man of few words didn’t have a problem!!!!
I know many of you are parents here and a lot of you have children who are married. So you will be able to relate to what I am going to say next. C, it doesn’t seem like five minutes since we brought you home from the hospital and now here you are all grown up and married. Where did all the time go in between hands? You’ll always be our little girl, but we are handing over some of the responsibilities of looking after you to B now, as we know he loves and he cares for you as much as we do.

B, look after C she is very precious to us, but you already know how special she is?

Our menu for the wedding was as follows:
Country Bread Basket with Creamry Butter

Four Cheese Cauliflower Soup

Organic Greens topped with Crumbled Goat Cheese, Toasted Pine Nuts and Cherry Tomatoes with Maple Dressing. 

Grilled Chicken Supreme, with Crispy Honey Mustard Crust, Mashed Potatoes and a selection of Vegetables or Baked Globe Artichoke in a Crispy Pastry Lattice, filled with Woodland Mushrooms, Goat Cheese and Baby Spinach.

Warm Tarte Tartin, with French Vanilla Ice cream

Tea and Coffee

There were appetizers before the meal during the cocktail hour.

At night there were the wedding cakes, an assortment of french pastries and a Homemade Slider Station; which was Angus Beef Sliders (mini burgers) on buns with an assortment of toppings. Along with tea and coffee.  Also there was a bowl of mini Cadbury chocolate bars, which my mam had brought over with her.

The bar was open for an hour before the reception and for four hours after the reception.  It was a free bar which my brother thought was great!!!!  As did many of the guests!!!!  With dinner there was a choice of red or white wine, and a glass of champagne with the toast.
