Deal!

I need glasses for reading and the computer etc.  I can see perfectly fine long distance.  However I am fed up with taking them on and off constantly while I am out.  Plus I need sunglasses all through the year whenever the sun is shining.

So I had my eye's tested last week and decided to get glasses with progressive lens and transistion lenses so that I will wear them all the time.  I go to the optical store in our grocery store that is a store where you earn Presidents Choice (PC) Points.  They are a Canadian thing and you can cash in your points for products.

When I went, there was a buy one pair of glasses get one free.  So I ordered two pairs.  One which is the exact same as my old pair, the other pair is what I thought was black but could be a very dark blue?

So each pair of glasses were $559 a pair; but I got one pair for free.

Now that in itself is a good deal, but they also had a special on for every $100 spent I got 40k in points.  So I ended up getting a total of 245k in points which is worth $245 of free product.

One place I can spend them is at Shopper's Drug Mart.  This past weekend they had bonus redemption of points and my 200k in points would have been worth $300 in free products.  I didn't cash them, as there was nothing I really needed, though did think about getting the Google Video Door Bell which I would have got for free with the points.

It was the luck of the draw that I got all these things as it wasn't planned.  I had booked my eye exam last November, and January was the earliest I could get in.  So I was super pleased with this.

I plan on donating my old glasses to a charity.

Oh I got myself a new glasses case while in the UK.  It's a Hannah Dale, Wrendale design.  I love her work.

At what age are you a senior?

We have booked to go away on vacation to Ohio at a place called Walnut Creek.  Doesn't that name sound ever so like "Little House on the Priaire-ish!!"  Due to "security" issues that is all I can tell you about it at the moment...LOL

Anyhow, went to book the hotel and they had a seniors discount and you only have to be 55 to be classed as a senior.  I was under the impression that the minimum age would be at least 60 and more typically 65?  Pleased to say despite dh not being thrilled about being classed as a senior; it did at least save us nearly $100 on our bill!!!!

I did have a "senior," moment on Saturday when I went and lost my glasses.  We had called into McDonald's and I had them out to read something on the receipt.  Put them back in the case and I thought I put them back in my handbag.  They must have fallen out onto the floor and I didn't see them.

An hour later went back, as we retraced our steps of where we had been and there they were in the exact same place.  So what does that tell you?  They don't clean up all that often!!!

Blind as a bat though when I don't have my glasses despite the fact I only need them for reading and close up.  I am due for new glasses but going on vacation is a priority over glasses I think!!!

I must be getting old............

I had to go to the hospital on Saturday morning to have a bone scan on my hand, as when I had the nerve testing done on Thursday of last week, they didn't find any trapped nerves, which is good.  So Dr. T. suggested I get a bone scan.  I made the appointment and arrived at the hospital bright and early on the Saturday morning.

I checked in with the receptionist and she looks at the form and sees that Dr. T. gave me the referral.  She says, isn't he gorgeous, and some other gushing things about him.  I reply, yes he's very nice, but can't say much because my husband is sitting there.  She nods at that and we finish the registration.

I am then called through to start the test and the nurse looks at my paperwork and sees that Dr. T. is my doctor and again starts gushing about him.  I reply, yes he's a sweetheart.  Now here's the getting old thing.  I haven't a clue what the doctor looked like, seriously.  I was more concerned about what was wrong with my hands than what he looked like!!!!!  While I was having my first test done I was wracking my brain trying to remember the bloody doctor!!!!  Oh well must be very happy with the husband I have!!!

Anyhow, due to it being  quiet on Saturday, I not only got my hands scanned, I had a full body scan, my hips rescanned and my feet rescanned.  I go to see the hand surgeon on January 3rd to talk to her about what the test results show.

My prescription changed on my glasses, I have gone from a 1.5 to a 1.75.  Got my new lenses and can't see a bloody thing!!!!  I guess I'll just have to suffer it until my eyes get used to the new lenses, so please forgive any typos, everything is blurred...........or am I just getting old?????

If anyone needs a stuffing or bread sauce recipe here is a link to the one I posted: http://thatbritishwoman.blogspot.ca/2008/12/bread-sauce-and-old-fashioned-stuffing.html

Follow up from yesterday....

Called the corporate office of the glasses store in the States, as they cover both Canada and the States.  The guy was really nice and he was going to contact both the store manager and the district manager.  What if anything will happen after that I'll never know as I won't be visiting the store.

We had snow on the weekend, so there has been some activity with my ad for my snow tires on Kijiji.  Spent part of Tuesday emailing back and forward one guy.....still not sold them though.  Another guy wanted to swap his four tires with no rims for my snow tires with rims???  There are some very funny bunnies in this world!!!

Things are quiet around here, still really tired from the weekend and my right hand is not at all happy at the moment, so trying to rest it as much as possible.

Must be nice to have too much business.........

Dh broke his glasses last night.  He NEEDS his glasses and wears them all the time.  He had a spare pair that is exactly the same.  The only thing is the lenses were a slightly different prescription.  So he decides to change out the lenses until we can get another pair.

Anyhow to cut a long story short neither of us could get one of the screws in.  After fighting on with it for a while we decided we had better go to town and see if an eye glass store could give us another screw and put it in for us.

We went to one of the biggest chains of eye glass stores in Canada.

The conversation went like this:

Dh: I need a screw for my glasses (he''s showing them to her)

Me: and would it be possible for someone to put it in for us, as my husband can't see without his glasses on and I am having trouble doing it, even with my glasses on.

Store Lady:  I'm sorry we can't do that as if we break them we'll be liable and you could sue us.

Me: well is there some form we can sign so you won't be liable?

Store Lady: no we can't do it.

Me: well can you at least give us another screw?

Store lady: no

Dh was about to say something, when I said fine, let's go next door to Zehrs to see if they could help.  A customer who was listening to the conversation, also said go to Zehrs!!

We go to Zehrs the guy not only replaces the screw and puts it in.  He also adjusts the glasses so they sit straight on dh's head.  He did explain they were older so they could break.  We said be as careful as possible and he was and everything turned out fine.

Dh was telling him he'll need an new pair of glasses.  The guy told us about an upcoming 50% off sale from the 22nd to the 24th of November at all Loblaw's  brand stores that have an Optical department.  He showed dh some types of glasses that would be suitable.  He told us what was involved and what he would need from out optometrist.

His customer service skills were awesome.  Because of that dh will be getting two new pairs of glasses and I have made an appointment at our optometrist to see if my prescription has changed and will be getting two new lenses for my glasses if it has.

So overall the major chain store we went to originally has probably lost out on $1,000 worth of business, as dh gets all sorts of extras on his glasses.  I think I will call the manager of that store and tell him that.

At the end of the day, how you treat your customer's DOES matter and customer's are your bread and butter!!

Well let's try this again........

I'm back, feeling a whole lot better (fingers, toes and everything crossed!) and hoping to stay that way!! Just felt all out of sorts th...
