Had to go to Michael's which is a craft store the other day. Now Michael's is an American owned store.
I have the girls overnight at the end of the month and decided we could do a craft together. I found these two Halloween paint sets on sale for 50% off. I thought they were cute and the price was right. You can see the packaging is printed in both English and French, so this was packaged for the Canadian market.
Here is a close up of the price. In the States, these are $2.99 USD and in Canada they cost $4.99 CDN.So I go to pay for them, and we get an A$$ for a cashier guy. Really, someone with an attitude problem. Hubby was with me and even he said he had a bad attitude. Anyway; we cash out and on my way out I look at the receipt and notice it is wrong.
So go back to the cashier and tell him that it's wrong, as I was charged $3.99 for each of the kit's.  He tells me the original price is $7.99 and half of that is $3.99.
As you can see quite clearly no where does it say $7.99 on the packaging, right?
He calls the supervisor over and she tells him to over ride the pricing and goes on to explain what the problem is............if you're Canadian you will probably guess right, other nationalities probably not!!
Tariffs.........those bloody tariffs.............the staff are having to go round with price guns and manually repricing everything due to the tariffs.  As with most retail, they work months ahead of time, so these items were all made and priced before the tariffs kicked in............
Now I did notice when I was looking around that there was different stickers (not the normal Michael's one's) on some items.  If you're in a Michael's store in Canada, keep an eye out for them.

Oh my gosh! How frustrating and aggravating!
The kits are really cute though.
One more reason to dislike the orange idiot and his policies. I do wonder though just how much of the price increases we're seeing are due to the tariffs or if some of them are simply price gouging.
The US has historically always (literally - since our founding) had tariffs and it's how our government was funded and intended that way. However, after WWII the USA wanted to help the rest of the world rebuild their countries and economies after they were hard hit by the world war, so tariffs were lowered considerably and instead the citizens of the US had increased personal taxes. Tariffs for other countries stayed so low as our own taxes and fees for everything went up and up. President Trump is actually going back to how it always 'was' until fairly recently (1947-ish) with tariffs so the personal weight on US taxpayers is less.
We were in Michael’s a couple weeks ago and noticed the different price tags. The original Michael’s tags were cut off and new stuck on price tags were on some items. Everything has gotten so expensive there, I only buy when stuff is half off.

This is nuts. Thank you for the heads up.
... the craft kits do look nice.
All the best Jan
Really? "With tariffs so the personal weight on US taxpayers is less." How is that working for you? Maybe you live in a different reality from the rest of us ?
I haven't been in Michael's for a few months now and I am not sure when I will be visiting them again. I really try to only purchase what is on sale when there.
God bless.
There is nothing worse than staff that have bad attitude
I’m glad the manager was able to sort it for you
I would love to see them once you’re all finished. I’m sure they will look amazing
Grrrr.... I'm glad they overrode it though. Stupid tariffs!
This is interesting. All our prices are really beginning to soar right now. Do show them when you are done. Glad it all worked out.
