Via Facebook this photo was posted of dh's dad back in the late 60's early 70's:
He is taking explosives down the mine. He worked for a company called British Gypsum and he was a general worker in the mine. As far as we know he didn't set up the explosives in the mine itself. At one time or another the majority of dh's family worked there, though dh was never down the mines. My dad and my granddad also worked for British Gypsum and my nana was one of the cooks in the canteen. My granddad and nana worked at a different plant. It was a major employer in our area.
Back to the photo. Do you think today's Health and Safety might have something to say about the way the explosives were being moved???? OF COURSE THEY WOULD.......LOL

Love the gnomes! Yep, loved the safety standards back then. Although I suppose, even with modern technology, mining is still dangerous. We have a gypsum mines near here (maybe 75 minute drive from city).

Those gnomes are great and I'm sure they'll be well loved by the children who receive them. Goodness! It must have taken nerves of steel to drive that tractor with a load of explosives. You're right. It would never be done that way now.

That photo is great. Shows how times have changed not just health & safety wise but how companies employed whole communities. It was the same in the mining town where I lived. However Maggie put paid to that!

I don't think I have ever seen that find of a take home gift! Love the pic of your hubby's dad...I bet you are glad your hub didn't have to work down in the mine.
It has been so hot and humid here the past couple of days that it is a chore to even hang clothes out.
