We were at a function the other day and a lady was helping out and she said something to us and I realized she had a British accent.
Me: You must be from London with that accent;(visualize someone sounding like the Queen, very posh and a mouth full of plums!!!)
Lady: No I'm from Manchester, but I was privately educated, and didn't mix with the masses.....
Me: Well Manchester is very nice?
Long pause.........
Lady: Yes Manchester is very....EARTHY................
After she left me, dh and our friend looked at one another and all said "EARTHY," what the hell does that mean????
We all agreed she was a total snob and we obviously were one of the masses!!!!
By the way I can do a perfect imitation of a stuck up voice.......but at least I mix with the masses!!!!
She was a right stuck up:
Thanks for the image

I had an email the other day from someone in council, a pompous ass who likes to brag about his degrees and universities he has attended (this includes his degree in English literature.)
He wrote:
"I understand that you are upset with the decision taken by council. However, for all intensive purposes the decision taken, was, in the circumstances, the only option council good take."
Well, sir:
1. "however" is a conjunction, sir, and used to join to related phrases together in a sentence!
2. You should NEVER start a sentence with "However,"!
3. The term is 'intents and purposes' and is from English law, originally “to all intents, constructions, and purposes” (found in an act adopted under Henry VIII in 1547!
3. In regard to - the only option council good take - he did not seem to grasp the principal behind Occam's razor, where, all things being equal, a simpler explanation is better than a more complex one - meaning "Council must have had another decision they could have made but opted for the simpler one"!
Ha, in the South we just shake our head and say "Bless her heart" She must have a lonely life being so much more refined and all
What a funny experience!
Private education clearly missed something out...
Can't stand snobs!

Poor Soul, must really love her own company. However, unpleasant this might be .... LOL
lol would have loved to have been a witness to that conversation
OK Gill, Wednesday, I'll do my private school accent you do your posh accent...and see what service we get. I also do a good Patsy from AbFab if the need arises!

Hmmm, maybe she's just lonely?
Oh my, I would have found it difficult to be anything but rude to her. What is she doing in Canada I ask? The whole country is "earthy" whatever the XXXX that means.
How funny :-) Sounds like no one was good enough for her, lol
so happy your one of the masses, just like me!
I love people like that they make me feel so much better about myself. hahahaha
I would take earthy as a compliment...specially coming from a snob.
