Hand and ice Storm

I was going to post last night but after a day of snow we then got freezing rain which knocked off the hydro, so we had no hydro from around 6:45 pm onwards.  Now dh is an electrician and he explained what had happened.  Here is my layman's version!!!

Ice formed on the hydro lines and they stopped working.  So Hydro One turned the hydro on and off to try and "shock" the ice off the lines but didn't work.  So they would have to send out the hydro guys to manually shift the ice.  Now there is probably more to it than that, but that's the gist of it.

Now this morning all the branches on the trees are weighed down with the ice, especially the conifers.  So I will be confined to the house today, as me and ice are an accident waiting to happen!!!!

Update on my hand.  It has stopped stinging and my fingers haven't swollen up, mind you that could be the medication I am taking that keeps the swelling down.  Other than that I am not taking any pain killers, there is no need.

I still cannot put any weight or pressure on that hand, and I did very little yesterday resting my hand as much as possible.  Typing is still a one handed affair which is slow to say the least!!

I am going to have a shower this morning for the first time.  I had planned on it last night but with the hydro going out we had neither light nor water, as we have an electric pump on our well, so no electric = no water!!

I will post later on today with my update for February.  I am reading peoples blogs, but not commenting as it takes me ages with just using the one hand.

electric lines + ice = not good! my parents lived way out in the country years ago...they always disliked when the ice storms came through...particularly if they had young pines growing...would snap the trees in half.

good news that your hand is improving

Oh, that is so good that you are not having to take any pain pills...I am really glad to hear that.

I bet the ice is pretty even with all the trouble it causes. Feel sorry for they guys that have to get out and work in it, though.

I read your previous post and commiserate about your poor hand. I do hope that is the end of it for now. Each day it will get a little better and soon you will be back to working order in all departments! I sincerely hope so anyway.
Your ice storm sounds dreadful. Poor you. I do hope you got your shower?
Cheer yourself up with the pictures on my Blog of our new primroses.
