A thank you and other things.......

I know I don't say this often enough to you all but I truly do appreciate the time you take out of your day to pop by and read my little old blog. For those of you who comment, an extra thank you.

I have been having trouble accessing some peoples blogs for some reason. Ds is coming down on June 20th, so may get him to do a once over on the computer just to see what's what. When I get my Internet bill in, which should be in the next week or so, I will be able to assess how much time I can spend on the computer. I have been trying to limit my time, as I am not sure how much it is going to cost, and with money flowing out of this house like water at the moment, we need to count every penny!!!

It was another cool and wet day on Monday, although I did manage to get a load of laundry dry outside in the morning. I picked more rhubarb and made a apple and rhubarb crisp using this recipe. It was okay, nothing overly exciting, but another way of using up rhubarb. Mind you I put another couple of bags in the the freezer, plus there is still a pile to cut yet.

Otherwise Monday was a super quiet day, that I mainly spent in the house. It was actually relaxing, not having to go outside to garden. I have to say though with having wooden floors throughout the house, I am finding the dust bunnies sprouting overnight. I tend to Swiffer my floors, and am finding I could do it daily, with the amount of dust that accumulates. It shows you how much dust a carpet can hold that's for sure.

Not sure if we should go out and buy rugs to put down, as I don't want to fully cover the wooden floors. Do you have wooden floors and if so do you find it warm enough through the winter?

Also ran into the mail lady today, who has been delivering the mail in our area for 52 years. The new mail box we put in is the first new mail box in many, many years on this property. She was a wealth of information and had some stories to tell that's for sure.

I love reading your blog, Gil, and hope the "bill" won't rain on your coin too badly!
I've been thinking of tearing up my carpet and putting down wood floors but have been wondering about the upkeep... hope you will keep us posted on what you find. My DDIL has a largish oriental-type rug in the center of her wood floors and her house is always immaculate! She's good with everything around her house and has two little ones to boot.
Ooopsy, didn't mean to write a book.
Enjoy your new home and that rhubarb sounds devine!
Hugs,
/;-)

Hi there - thanks for another update. I love rhubarb too and have just planted a couple of plants in my small garden - both plants given to me free from a lady at church.

Guess what Lady? I am very happy and honoured to be the first to read your blog rather the first to comment. Sounds like a country life makes you happier. It's only in the beginning that dust are easily visible. But to the people who would come and say hello to you, they are invisible.

I prefer wooden floors to carpeted floors. Just mop out with old soft clothes using your feet and all is well with you. A healthy exercise for you as well. Good to stimulate your circulation.

As to internet, am using flat rate broadband service. That way, I don't have to worry about the bills.

Rhubarb? Hmmm love rhubarb just by itself. Boiled with ground cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, sugar to sweeten with a bit of butter and serve with vanilla icecream.

I also love your new header. Very green countryside.

Cheers from the land down under!

I'm still working on it, dear Lady. You may check later. Thank you from me. Over to you.

Good morning Gill, I hope you get into your blogs. I'm still wondering if it's a blogger problem because I had the same thing a while back but no problems right now, touch wood! Have a great day! We're supposed to be having thunderstorms for the rest of the week. It was rumbling when we woke up this morning and it had been raining again.

Listening to your adventures is a comfort...our quiet life in the country has been far from quiet too...It has been a mad two weeks making the most of the sun and getting the planting done. Wish I had some of your rhubarb...mine doesnt like me very much ;-)

Try it the first winter with out large rugs, and see how it is. You can always purchase larger area rugs later if needed. We got rid of our rugs in all the rooms except the living room and the office. We have tile floors except in the family room/kitchen area where we laid a wooden floor over tile floor that was here when we moved in. We did have carpet and got rid of it due to allergies. We want to someday get rid of the living room carpet and lay a wood floor in there also, but the last one we did ourselves, we could hardly walk for two weeks. That was about 4 years ago. Now at our age, we would have to hire it done and labor sometimes cost more then the supplies. We use just throw rugs in the rooms with the tile and or wooden floors. We really didn't notice any difference in the winter. But then we're on slab cement and the heating ducts run under the floor, so we don't get any air/wind blowing through the floors.

I enjoy reading your blog as well friend. As to the flooring, we are changing all our rugs over to laminate. I know it collects dust bunnies, however rugs are a whole lot dirtier. With 2 people with asthma and allergies, rugs just aren't the best for us.

Glad you got to spend a relaxing day in your home.

Weather still not good here. They are forcasting higher temps next week.

btw - I'm having trouble accessing some blogs too. If I hit the back button when it happens and then come right back to the blog, it usually works. I'm thinking this is a blogger thing and not your computer.

HI,

We had our carpets ripped out & wooden floors fitted 2 years ago. We did buy a nice rug for the living room as it is nice to lie on the floor to watch TV and it makes it more cosy in the winter. I would wait until the winter to see how you feel. Love your blog by the way!

I enjoy reading your daily excursions, Gill. You remind me of two fun girls I used to work with, both were from England.

Moccasins keep the feet warm on bare floors. I agree with you about carpet harbouring dust - have both and prefer the hardwood.
