SDM - Shopper's Drug Mart
I had a few points saved up, 130,000 to be precise, so I knew I could do 2 bonus points redemption. My level was redeem 50,000 points for $75 worth of free product. It would normally be only $50 worth of free product.
Now the key to doing these redemptions is to get as close to $75 before tax as possible. This is what I got with my first 50,000 points. Just bits and bobs we needed in the house, other than the wine gums. I was just under $75 before tax, so picked these up for $3 to get me over.
So I ended up paying $5.47 out of pocket. If I wasn't getting these things for free I wouldn't have gone out of my way to buy some of these things, as they were a little more expensive than I would generally pay; especially the yogurt. This is what I got for my second 50,000 point redemption. I had to bite the bullet and get hubby some razor blades, as they are so hard to find at a good price. These were around 20 cents more expensive per blade than the ones on sale, which of course they didn't have in stock. I swear they take them off the shelf when it's bonus redemption time.
Regardless I am super pleased as I got $167.88 worth of product for only $17.88. I only have the 30,000 points left, so will build them up until I can cash them in again.
Did any of the Canadian's reader's cash in their points?
How do our prices compare here in Canada to yours, in your part of the world?

I’ve just come home from the grocery stop and I spent just over $460.00
Its mental how expensive everything is.
I stand there doing math working out what is the Best Buy for almost everything.
I think our groceries are about the same. I don’t know how young families do it. my rewards points got me ten dollars off. Every little bit helps I guess
Wow, what a great program! I would be so tickled to have gotten all of that for $17, you did so well, Gil.
That's a great program to save money, you did well. I use the same tooth paste and it is around $2.00 more a tube here and our toilet paper is more also.
Wow, that's a huge saving. Do you have Aldi over there. Their cheap sensitive toothpaste is all I buy now. It's every bit as good as the expensive brands.
We have always saved our points and then used them to buy groceries for our family when we fly out to visit them. We're not going this year so we could have used them for the bonus thing at Shoppers but didn't know we weren't going until last night. Too late to take advantage this time.
No Aldi here in Canada, which is a shame. I would have got a cheaper brand but I was getting it for "free," and the more expensive brand works better for me I find.
There is usually a really good redemption at the beginning of December, so save them for them.
Grocery shopping certainly brings out your math skills nowadays. I am lucky my cell phone has a calculator, as I had to use it to figure out the prices of the razor blades individually, to see which size box was the best.
Your coupon usage is so much better in the States. We were later than the States in bringing in the loyalty programmes for shopping at a store. All stores now do that up here.
My friend in London loves her Shopper's points. I think when you take the exchange rate into consideration, prices are similar to here now -- which is high. At least pretty close. I've not been to Canada since March (time to go again!) so it will be interesting to see this time. US prices have soared on many things so the comparison will be more apt.
We're heading to the US soon so it will be also interesting for us to see how cheap/expensive things are.
I have a load of points too but haven't used any at a SDM redemption. Maybe next time. But SDM is really more expensive that the grocery store.
I love how strategic you are with your points redemption. It’s almost like a little treasure hunt in the store. Getting over $160 worth of product for under $18 is such a win, and I admire how you navigated the tax and stock challenges to maximize your savings. Definitely inspires me to pay closer attention to my own rewards programs. www.melodyjacob.com
I know you go to Costco. They have Gillette disposable razors that the husband loves. 24 pack for around $21. That alone makes our membership worthwhile
I watch prices carefully, and love getting things for free. Bonus days are good.
I do too, we do have to watch prices, that's for sure.
I'll look at them next time I am in Costco, thanks for the info.
Thanks for popping by my blog. I will pop by your page.
I think we all have to watch pricing carefully nowadays!
it is, but it's a good way of using your points and getting free stuff.
