What was hanging on my washing line on Thursday.......

Of course it's the bath mats and a couple of my handbags, is that not normal?  I am a huge fan of cloth handbags, especially Vera Bradley; I did also wash my Marie Osmond bag (red one) as well.  I hope to fine another Vera Bradley bag while we are in the States at a good price.
On Thursday I cut the rest of the grass, and it was downright nippy out there.  I had a fleece jacket on and my flaps down hat on all day.  I'm not complaining as I would rather have this type of weather, than stinking hot and humid, but it was cool out of the sun and in the wind.

The one thing that surprises me with this week's "House of the Week," is how light and airy it is.  From the outside you wonder why is it on sale for $1.85 million, but inside the finishes tell you why.  I like the inner courtyard idea, a bit like a secret garden, otherwise the place is too modern and too flipping clean for me.  Only the kids bedrooms looked lived in, once again I'll pass.

Not sure what to say about "The Cottage of the Week?"  Obviously at $4.35 million, it's not your typical cottage.  Take a look at the ninth photo and tell me if that picture beside the window/door should be the other way up?  I'm guessing not but that would annoy the heck out of me.  If I had that sort of money to spend it would be perfect but not as a cottage but as a permanent home.

This week's "Condo of the Week," has no kitchen and is currently being use as a photography studio, and for that you get to pay $850,000. As it is one of those lofts with the concrete walls, no ceiling and concrete floors I'll pass!!!

Interesting to say the least............

On Sunday I went out to cut the grass.  Within half an hour I was rushing into the house, stripping of my clothes in the kitchen, shouting and carrying on.  Dh was on the phone with dd and was looking at me in complete amazement at what I was doing.

As he said to dd, "your mother has just ran into the house and stripped off her clothes."

I ran upstairs and got into the shower.  I had scratched myself red raw in some places and no I hadn't been bitten but it turns out I am allergic to the bloody grass.  I went off my allergy pills a week or so ago and I had barely been outside since that time.  However cutting the grass in the field which was long and flying around was "the straw that broke the camels back" as they say.

Suffice to say a trip into town to get allergy pills was in order and no more grass cutting for the day.  I was out yesterday cutting grass with no problem, other than I ran out of gas!  I can cut the grass in a fraction of the time with the new mower, so that's a good thing.

The newspaper on the window is working at keeping the red cardinal away, however it still attacks the patio door every now and then (no newspaper on there); will keep the newspaper up for a few more days.  Also had no birds fly into the picture window yet either which is good, but that doesn't happen every day normally though.

Do I dare hope that I may get my car back this week?  Stay tuned for news on that front!

Have a good day everyone!

Update on car....AGAIN!

The car is still at the garage as of Wednesday morning.  I spoke to them on Tuesday and they had got it going, but were not 100% sure if they have fixed it?  They have reprogrammed the Gem Mobile, what ever that is?  They have performed a recalibration, what ever that is?  They had also reprogrammed the computer last week.

I am none the wiser with any of this and dh is far from happy about it all.  I did offer to go in and try the car, as it seems I have the magic fingers for not making it work, but they said they'll let me know.  So that is where we stand.

Weather a little cooler this morning so have had the windows open to let in some fresh air.  It get so stuffy in the house when it closed up all the time doesn't it?  May even attempt to cut some grass as it doesn't feel as humid.  Otherwise it is going to be another quiet day around here.

By the way is anyone a member of KLOUT?  I'll be honest with you although I have joined I really don't understand it all.  I did however get a free product coupon the other day thanks to them.  Here is a link to what it's about.  If anyone is more of an expert on this, please share what you know?

Rudely awoken at 2:45 am this morning..........

by something being killed and not happy about it, along with a bunch of coyotes happy about catching their supper/breakfast and being VERY vocal about it.  I guess it didn't help that I had one of our bedroom windows open so it made the sound even louder; and it sounded as though they were doing it directly under the window.

Good news on the lawn tractor front I went to Barrie and picked up the parts and dh managed to put it all together again.  Cost $130 for the parts and while I was in the parts depot I met a guy who used to repair Sears lawn tractors for a living, and he informed me that the other side will go as well eventually.  Also told me it's a common thing to go on the tractor and our tractor is much too small for the amount of grass I cut.  So I felt better after talking to him.

Thank goodness dh is so handy as I dread to think how much this repair would have cost if we had, had to take the tractor somewhere.  As it was, the guy at dh's work had to "burn" off the locking nut to get it off.  Also some of you suggested that my dh cut the grass.  He has too many DIY projects to do that I can't do and I enjoy cutting the grass, so if I want the renovations done around the house, then I have to take care of the outside work.

I did manage to get the veggies put in the garden.  Will go out and check them later to see if I have any left.  I also spent a good 3 hours whipper snipper/edging - cutting the grass, and I managed to fit in a couple of hours of cutting the grass.  I must admit that whipper snipping does not do my hands any good at all with the vibrations.  They felt really strange for a couple of hours after I had finished it.  Never mind; I have been wearing my splints on a night, as all the cutting and trimming I was doing with the quilt on the weekend also killed my hands.

Would you believe I am coughing again and coughing up green and chunky (sorry TMI.)  I had stopped my inhalers, but I guess I had better start again.  Has anyone else had Bronchitis and the doctor told you to use inhalers?  How long did you have to use the inhalers for?

Going to spend the day outside cutting grass.  Got Kamikaze hill done last night along with part of the field; only a small part mind you.  So I want to see if I can get the rest done today before it rains.  Reckon I will have about five or six hours worth of grass cutting to do.  Enjoy your Wednesday.

Sorry..........

I said I was going to post today about the kitchen and although I did make a start on the post, I didn't get too far.

I spent most of Wednesday outside cutting grass as it wasn't as warm and it was over cast.  The grass is on steroids and I swear is growing as fast as I am cutting it.  Anyhow I ran out of gas around 2pm, so had to come in.  By the way despite it being over cast and despite me putting sunscreen on I got burnt to a crisp!!!  I didn't wear my hat as it was over cast, but did have my sunglasses on.

We're not putting much of a veggie garden in, as dh is too busy with other projects to give me much help; plus his other knee is giving him problems.  He had the right knee scoped last August and the surgeon said at the time he could have his left one done anytime he wanted, but dh wanted to wait until he can't stand the pain.  He has/had a torn meniscus in both knees.  He needs knee replacements, but is much too young at the moment.  I would think he'll be having his second one done by the end of the summer, as the spasms are getting more and more painful for him.

I am also trying to get dd table runner completed before they come up on Saturday.  So last night I sat and hand sewed half the binding on, and will get that finished today.  I will take photos when I am done, really pleased with the fabric choices.  Must say my hands were complaining about all the hand sewing last night.

Dh was watching the Maple Leafs versus the Boston team hockey game.  The guy who sang the national anthems was good.  He sang at the last game and is a soldier.  He actually didn't muck it up like the professional/famous folks do.  Also the sheer joy and pride in his face when he sang was a Kodak moment to my mind.  Dh was saying one of his co-workers had got tickets for the game.  They were sitting in the nose bleed section, so right at the top and paid $250 a ticket.  What a flipping waste of money!!  The tickets are generally $90.  I will say that the Toronto Maple Leafs do deserve to win, only because they have the most devoted and enthusiastic fans out there; that support them through tick or thin - and it's generally on the thin side!!!

Gosh that was a lot of writing about hockey, a game I can't stand!!!

Finally I wrote another book review on a really good book called, Mennonite Girls Can Cook - Celebrations.  You can read it here.  The book is a keeper and would make a wonderful gift, even a great Bridal Shower gift.  As I said in my review, I'm not donating it; its going on my book shelf.

Just a quick update.......

I am feeling a lot better.  Still coughing up ick and still tired, but at least I can do some things without having to sit down every half an hour.  I am now into week four with this, (SIGH)

Trying to get all the grass cut by the end of today before it rains.  Already broken the tractor once this week (SIGH) A spring broke on it so it wouldn't cut.  Dh has managed to get it to work again.  Yeah to dh for being so handy!!!

Our kitchen is now in an up roar.  We started to do one job and now it has turned into a huge nightmare of a problem.  I honestly don't know where to start with it all, but it's a mess.  I think I will compose a post to try and explain what happened.  Suffice to say I am washing dishes in the downstairs bathroom sink.

On a more positive note I lost ten pounds in weight, as I finally shaved my legs!!!!  Yes I was at the braiding stage and yes it took me three days to get it all off....LOL  Now instead of my legs being soft and hairy, they are now prickly!!!  So I guess it'll be a daily job of bloody well shaving them?  With it being shorts weather I guess it's necessary?

So there you go, nothing much to say, sorry!

A couple of follow ups to posts/stories...

Back in January I went to see the surgeon about my hand.  I posted about it here.  Her advise back then was to take it easy with my hand and baby it.  At the time I said that was easier said than done, but I have tried the best I can and a couple of months down the road I can say it isn't as sore, but it will never be right.

It's going to be a case of having to live with it.  Sanding and painting the baseboards last week made it sore.  It's going to be tested to the limit over the next couple of weeks as I am working so all the typing will aggravate it no doubt.  I don't splint it every night now, and only splint it now when it's really bothering me.

I have a lump on the bottom of my middle finger next to the palm on my right hand, it is a Ganglion Cyst.  I am going to go and get that drained next month as every time I grip something it rubs against the lump and it hurts like crazy.  Other than that I won't be having anything else done with my hand (s) and will just have to live with them.

Remember this post about the trouble I was having with a magazine subscription?  Well I finally got it all sorted out.  It involved me having to call back another couple of times, despite the "Organ Grinder" (aka the supervisor) promising me she would definitely call me back by the Monday at the latest!!!  She gave me my refund, after they charged me again for the subscription and added an extra four months onto our year subscription.  I still think that their customer service stinks but at least its all over with now.

I posted here about buying dh the mini crock-pot that he could take to work.  He took it yesterday with a can of chunky soup in it and he said it worked great.  It takes around an hour and a half to warm through.  The only problem dh has is that he is working between two buildings which are in different streets so he can't plug it in until he knows for sure which building he will be in at lunch time.  I made a pot of vegetable soup yesterday, so put that in his crock pot today.

So there you are.  Otherwise I am hibernating due to the cold weather and nothing exciting is happening around here, which is the way I like it!!!

How about you anything exciting happening in your neck of the woods?

Oh, I was talking to my mother yesterday and they cut their grass for the first time!!!!  At this point I would love to see anything that resembled bloody grass, as everything is covered in the white stuff here!!!

Managed to get a couple of things crossed off the to-do list on Monday

No idea what was up with me on Monday but by 8:30am, I had two loads of laundry hung out.

Had a pot of ham bone soup simmering on the stove.  The bread maker was all loaded up to make a loaf of bread for supper.

Made wibbly wobbly pudding for supper and washed up all the dishes.

More often than not I am still in my dressing gown at 8:30am.

I had to be in town for 9:30am as I had a hair appointment.  Got there and it was closed due to illness {SIGH}.  Still I had stuff planned to do besides that, so I did my grocery shop, called in at the dollar store, put gas in the car $1.309 a litre {{SIGH}}  Donated last months books to the library and called in at the garage to make an appointment for today to get the oil changed in Betsy, as she has hit the 6,000 km mark in just under 6 months.

Was home by around 11am.  After lunch I dug up all the potatoes and cut the front grass.  Brought the washing in and did the ironing.  By this time it was 3:30pm.  Went out and cut the field for an hour.  Came back in and sorted out supper and a couple of other things.  Had supper at 5pm.  Dh went to town to get his hair cut, while I went outside for another hour to cut more grass.

Came back in and plopped down on the sofa to spend some time on the computer and watch a bit of tv.

Only thing I didn't get too was my quilt, which is still laying on the kitchen table.

This is a photo of the sunset on Sunday night:
Is that not stunning?

Odds and ends.....

Today would have been my Nana's 99th birthday if she was still alive......... I wrote about my Nana and Pop here  If you have a minute read that post I think it's worth while.

Dh is back at the hospital today to see the surgeon and to get his TWO stitches removed,  You would think he was getting TWO HUNDRED stitches removed the way he was going on the other night!!!  As I pointed out, he was being a drama queen.  He said I had no sympathy........well duh.....he's only getting two flipping stitches removed.  I had ten stitches in the one hand and six in the other and did I get any sympathy from him......heck no!!!!

So please think of me around 10:30 a.m.............actually it will probably be around 12 noon before we get to see the surgeon.  I am going along as I want him to make arrangements for a MRI on his other knee, as we want to know ahead of the game and try and prevent this happening to his "good"' knee.  If you hear of a British born woman murdering her dh because he wouldn't stop whining.........there's a good chance you'll know who that woman is!!!!

It's been too stinking hot and humid around here for me these past few days. Anyhow on Sunday I decided to cut the field as it was getting long again.  I have to say it's been a good summer as far as grass cutting goes.  I missed a month of grass cutting due to it being so flipping hot and the grass not growing.

Bathed Molly on Sunday morning; gave me the evil eye for the rest of the day!!!  I don't understand why she just doesn't accept the situation.  She has to have a bath, I am bigger than her, so I win not her?  Her skin feels nice and soft now.  Jane and Chris rescued this dog (Duncan) last week.  We were going to go and see him, but I don't really want a dog that is only a year old.

Cindy gave me some beets and a cucumber the other day.  So for lunch on Sunday we had cheese and cucumber sandwiches.  I love cheese sandwiches; though I think it's a toss up between cheese and red onion or cheese and tomatoes fresh from the garden sandwiches.

My dad used to take cheese and jam sandwiches in his bait/lunch and my mam said the other day she was having cheese and chutney sandwiches for her lunch.  I dislike both those types.  Do you like cheese sandwiches and do you add something to them or just eat them plain?

Photos from Kamikaze Hill

I cut the grass on Kamikaze Hill on Tuesday and thought I'd take a few photos from that side of the property.

The couple who bought the property above us, which includes the field behind us.  They have a horse and want to ride it in the field behind us.  As the grass has never been cut, other than the acre of field I burned last year, it is long and he is now in the process of cutting it.

The grass police are coming to get me....

I am just waiting for a knock on the door.  You know how I am always preaching about how you have to cut your grass in a different direction everytime you cut it, so it grows back in thicker?  Well I didn't do that I cut it the same way I did last time in the field on Tuesday. I have lots of reasons excuses as to why I did that, but that doesn't matter, I did it.  It was also a "flaps down," kind of day, to see what I mean see this post.  I wanted to get some of the field cut as it was awful long in places.  I may or may not cut the front grass on the weekend if it dries up, as there are some leaves that need mulching, otherwise I am done cutting the grass for this year...YEAH!!!!

I mentioned in this post, that we had bought an old dresser for the spare bedroom.  I finally got it all cleaned up and put together on Monday so I took a couple of photos.  It goes perfectly in the bedroom and with the period of the house.

I love the detail on the mirror. The bed is from Ikea.

What neat drawer pulls, don't you think?

It's seen a lot of wear and tear but is still in lovely condition.

Trip to the dentist and a gorgeous sunset........

Tuesday was a busy day, and a lovely day.  Had to go to the dentist and get the permanent filling put in, which cost another $40; that was 20% of the total bill, the insurance pays the other 80%.  I am back at the dentist at the end of the month, for my six month cleaning.  While there I need to have my bottom tooth x-rayed as I have a feeling that tooth is not at all well............

In the afternoon I cut some more grass, then after supper cut more.  The field is now half cut.  The sun was setting when I was cutting the grass and the sky was just gorgeous, so I ran inside and grabbed the camera and took these photos.

Talked with the post office again and told my story.  What good it will do, who knows.  The lady did confirm though that a number of people on the same rural route as me have been complaining.  So all I can do is wait and see what happens.

Just another ordinary day......

Had a busy day on Tuesday.  I got a coat of paint on the trim in the bathroom closet.  When dh got home we put up the closet organizers in both of the closets.  I still have a couple more coats of paint to put on the trim in the bathroom closet,  but the painting is done in the spare bedroom closet, so I can start and put things away in the bedroom closet.

Dh still has to put the light fixtures up in the closets, and change the sockets and switch in the bedroom.  I still have some new trim to varnish.  It's funny these rooms were supposed to be quick jobs but one job seems to lead to another, which leads to another.

Fooled Molly.  I was upstairs painting so she followed me upstairs.  I then decided to have a shower, and figured I would bath her as well at the same time.  If I have my nightie on she won't come upstairs with me, as she figures she's going in the bath.  She didn't click this time, as I had my painting clothes on.  Needless to say she wasn't happy when she discovered I was going to bath her!!

I got the field cut, it's growing at a crazy rate!!!  Roll on the cooler weather when it stops growing!!!  Discovered that a couple of trees that I thought were crab apples are actually eating apples, and they are good.  So have to pick them, not sure about storing them though?  Will also try to fit in making apple jelly this week as well.

Make another big pan of mashed potatoes for supper on Tuesday night, using potatoes that had bad bits on them, or the skins weren't that great.  So we will pick away at those for supper through the week.

My plan of action on Wednesday is:

  1. Paint two coats on the trim and the floor in the linen closet
  2. Edge/whipper snip the front ditch and a few other places that ds missed.
  3. Load of laundry
  4. Put things away in the spare bedroom closet.
  5. Cut more grass.
  6. Tidy up a bit in the house.
I think that should keep me out of mischief for a while!!  I was just saying to dh the days are just flying past at the moment.  The nights are also drawing in.  We are having to put the lights on, on a night in the family room to see to read.

Well it's arrived and ahead of schedule.........

The Church recipe book arrived on Monday. So I spent part of the afternoon sorting out the orders and calling a couple of people who are going to deliver them to their respective church.   If you click on the photo you will see more detail of the churches.

This is one of the drawings we had done for the dividers.  We ended up selling 168 books.  I ordered an extra 32 books, which I hope to sell at the next church dinner.

I have burgundy Gladioli in the vase at the moment.

I am still painting closets.......they may be the smallest rooms in the house, but gosh they are taking forever to get done.

The weather has been miserable the last few days, but I managed to get some grass cut on Monday night.  It's all overgrown AGAIN, so it ALL needs to be cut AGAIN!!  So of course I am super busy.

Once again a big, big sorry for not popping by your blogs.

Peaches........

Over the weekend a dear friend dropped off some Ontario Peaches for me.  She got them from the Niagara region.  She goes down there from Bra...
