The highs and lows of the wedding.................

On Saturday, dh and I attended the wedding of a young lady we have known since she was 5 years of age.  She is the same age as ds and will be 28 in April.  She was a stunning bride, breath taking in fact.  She is around 5' 10" with long blonde hair and her dress was gorgeous.  It was fitted to the body until the hips and laced at the back.  The bottom was all flouncy with big flowers dotted here there and every where.  She arrived at church wearing a pear of bright pink Uggs and changed into a pair of bright pink ballet flats.

The bridesmaid wore black strapless straight up and down dresses with bright pink sashes.  They carried bouquets of bright pink roses  The guys had bright pink ties and bright pink rose button hole flowers.  They had an Anglican church service, and it was lovely.

There were probably around 200 people there and it was in a big banquet hall.  The food was usual wedding food, antipasto to start, followed by a pasta course, with ravioli in a white sauce and pasta with a tomato sauce.  Main course was a beef medallion with gravy, chicken breast, roast potatoes and two pieces of asparagus and a carrot, and a green salad.  This course was not at all good, the beef was more rare than medium. I like my beef not too be moo-ing, mine was moo-ing!!  The veggies were bordering on raw and who has salad with gravy?  So that was not a success as far as I was concerned.

The dessert though was top notch, a lot better than dd's at her wedding.  It was a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and whipped cream.  It was a 10 out of 10 for me.  Then tea or coffee.  Around 11:45pm they had a pork roast called Porchetta with accompaniments, wedding cake which was chocolate with vanilla frosting.  Along with cookies and fruit.  They also supplied little boxes to take cookies home and again tea and coffee.

The speeches were good, what we could hear.  I think you are either a public speaker or you're not, and that applied to these speeches.  The father of the bride's speech was super as was the bride and groom's speech; especially the grooms, he had the bride in tears and even I shed a tear.

The biggest disaster of the night though was the disco.  It was a large room and for some reason the volume of the music was deafening and so loud the music was not 100% clear.  Oh and they started off with techno/house music and it was bloody awful.  Myself and a friend went and sat out in the lobby to get away from the racket.  However it still was loud.  If you have to yell at the person next to you to have a conversation then something must be loud.

The icing on the cake though was when a guy set up two snare drums and a cymbol and connected that to the speakers and beat his drum to the music.  By this point I had a little man in my head who was also playing the drums.  However we hung in until after midnight and were in bed by 1am.

Overall though we had a great time and it was a privilege to see this lovely girl get married.  However I am not good at staying up that late and am pooped today.

Oh dear, starting to show our age, aren't we? I am the same - always wishing midnight would come so we can go home. I don't do well in crowds with loud music and people talking - can't hear a thing! Sounds like a nice wedding, though.

Cheers - Joolz

I'm glad you had a good time in spite of the loud music!

Sounds like it was good overall, although, I am with you - the music they play at weddings these days.

Have a nice rest today.

I know what you mean - one late night and I'm out of it for the next few days! I can't handle such loud music either and house music is my least favorite! However, you survived and now you won't need to shave your legs for another TWO months!

To bad the food was not very good I am sure the brides parents paid an arm and a leg for it!! So funny about the music, we went to our Niece's wedding in Key West last spring, I headed back to the condo with the grands but hubby and all the big kids went on to the reception. Hubby was disappointed the DJ played the same song all night long, our big kids had to explain it was all different songs they just sounded alike! HA

First let me say how much I love your new look on here. It's great!
I'm glad you enjoyed the wedding, mainly. I have been to weddings where the music was too loud too and it does rather spoil it. At least you could get out into the lobby for a while.
Thanks for giving us so many details. It felt like I was really there.

Too bad the meal and music spoiled the evening. I am a Cinderella also, have to be in by midnight, not use to late nights these days.
Have you watched the TV program "Four Weddings Canada"? Some of those weddings spend a fortune and they are awful.
