A 1956 fridge........

My dear friend called the other day to give me some information.  She was telling me that their fridge had broken and it was only 20 years old.  So I commented that I thought that was a good age for a fridge.  She then told me about the fridge they had at the farm in the shop that they bought in 1956 and was still running fine.

I told her next time they were at the farm I would pop by as I don't think I have seen a fridge that old.  So on Friday morning I went by and took the photos below.

The freezer part does not work, but the fridge part works just fine.  Does anyone have any old appliances that they still use?

The weather was super warm and very windy on Friday, so I decided to take advantage of it and cut the grass.  I think I have half of the total grass cut.  Would love to think I don't have to cut it again but I don't think I will be so lucky!!

Did grocery shopping on Friday morning.  My deal of the week was Royale facial tissue, a pack of six boxes was on for $2.97 and I had $1 coupons.  So I picked up a pack for us and two packs for the food bank........I know it's not food, but people need that sort of thing too.

Got a busy weekend ahead of us.  Hope you enjoy your weekend.

Gill

We have a 'Crock Pot' aka as a "slow cooker" that Rhonda bought when we first got married 38 years ago. She scrimped and saved every 5 cent piece she could to get the $19.95AUS appliance that was on "Special" - It still does sterling service today, only now it's up at "The Camp", having been replaced at home by a newer model with a removable bowl.

They don't make 'em like that any more, do they Gill. Of course not! They last too long. My oldest appliance is the vacuum cleaner, which is 10 years old, a mere baby in comparison. It's an Electrolux.

Here, we have had all kinds of incentives - financial, of course - to rid ourselves of those old appliances. they are energy-guzzlers, apparently. I didn't have one to get rid of but I remember that model from my parents home when I was a kid.

We had our original microwave oven which was huge by today's standards and still worked very well. But we needed the space and so succumbed to the lure of the younger model *sigh* Have to admit it is more efficient.

A 48 year old ironing board. I tell my mom that I'd like her to leave it to me in her will. Very sturdy. They just don't make things the way they used to! Loved the photos.

My gran had one similar to that...I cannot attest if it is still around, she passed in 1995 and I am not sure where it went after that...pity cause it was a decent one and in very fine shape. Yeah, they sure do not make them to last like they did back in the 40-50s for sure.

Gill,
Bless your heart, the food bank needs everything!!
And you are right not just food, paper products, soap, laundry detergent everyday living stuff.
You can eat macaroni every day but you still have to wash your face and brush your teeth.
I usually buy extra's of these products because they need them.
Could I go without brushing my teeth. NO! That is why I buy these items.

You asked about Lorelei's dog, Otto. He just came to their house when he was a pup...belonged to a neighbor and they took him back home. The next day or two, they would come home from work and he would be there, so they finally asked the neighbors did they want him or not, the neighbors didn't so they kept him. The vet says he is part American Staffordshire Terrier. They have a bad rap, but at one time they were the number one family pet....

Hmm...we don't have any old appliances like that in my family, but the pilgrims' hostel at the Oratory just replaced a fridge as old as that one because it was starting to slow down and the freezer, which was still working, was so full of ice that they could hardly fit anything in there!

Some of those old frigs are the best. They really do last much longer.

Tuesday was a mixed bag type of day. Had the appliance repair guy come again to install another circuit board in the fridge.  When hubby got...
