Food Banks........

The other day on the morning news was an article on Food Bank usage in Canada:

We are very fortunate that we don't have to use food banks, but many people have to use them.

Also on Facebook that morning I came across a new to me site called Dollar Tree Dinners.  She had a super idea where, put together a meal in cans or packages in a Ziploc/Plastic bag along with a recipe and it's a meal in a bag.  There are many examples of meal ideas on her site, all very doable, using what is available in your area/country.  These would be perfect to donate to food banks/food pantries.  This is one idea/recipe she posted:

She also has a You Tube channel called Dollar Tree Dinners.  As well as social media channels.  Well worth checking out her channels.

I also saw this article on Daily Mail UK, regarding Canned/Tinned "superfoods" you should always have in your pantry.

As we are closing in on the holiday season I will pick up some extra cans of items for donation to the food banks.........

Busy bee, but with nothing to show for it!

Isn't it always the way, you feel like you have never stopped, but honestly have nothing to show for it?

One thing I was doing today was putting together a box of food to send up north to a food bank.  During the month of October, Canada Post has had a special where a business can send a box under 5kg anywhere in Canada for free on a Tuesday.  So the last couple of Tuesday's I sent a box of Evan's new born clothing up that he had grown out of.  They were in perfect condition; in fact a couple of the pieces I am sure hadn't even been worn.

This week I decided to put together a box of food.

Now it may look like an odd combination of items, but there is a reason behind the things I popped in.  I had the cake mixes and frosting in the cupboard.  I won't be using them before they expire next year.  They cost a small fortune up north; I think around $9 each, so they are classed as a luxury.  I popped some sprinkles in, because who doesn't love a cake with sprinkles!!  They always need spices, and sugar.  Due to the weight, I just popped in the small packets of sugar.  I also had a can of condensed milk, that I know some people put in their coffee, so figured that should go as well.

If anyone has a business account with Canada Post and wants to send a free box up north and would like a contact address please let me know.  You will have to print out a shipping label tomorrow to take advantage of the deal.  I will give you details of where to send too and what they would like.  Tea and honey are things they love.

A 1956 fridge........

My dear friend called the other day to give me some information.  She was telling me that their fridge had broken and it was only 20 years old.  So I commented that I thought that was a good age for a fridge.  She then told me about the fridge they had at the farm in the shop that they bought in 1956 and was still running fine.

I told her next time they were at the farm I would pop by as I don't think I have seen a fridge that old.  So on Friday morning I went by and took the photos below.

The freezer part does not work, but the fridge part works just fine.  Does anyone have any old appliances that they still use?

The weather was super warm and very windy on Friday, so I decided to take advantage of it and cut the grass.  I think I have half of the total grass cut.  Would love to think I don't have to cut it again but I don't think I will be so lucky!!

Did grocery shopping on Friday morning.  My deal of the week was Royale facial tissue, a pack of six boxes was on for $2.97 and I had $1 coupons.  So I picked up a pack for us and two packs for the food bank........I know it's not food, but people need that sort of thing too.

Got a busy weekend ahead of us.  Hope you enjoy your weekend.
