You know it's close to Christmas when.....

you add on another hour to your shopping trip, as that is how long it is going to take to find a parking spot at the mall.......and they say there is a recession on!!!

when, there is a police officer directing traffic in and out of the parking lot where the liquor store and Beer Store are located. Also there is a security guard at the door at these stores only letting so many people in at a time and the line up outside is right around the store.........again and they say there is a recession on!!!

In Canada, we can only buy beer at the beer store. All wine and liquor is bought at the LCBO, but there are the odd wine stores here and there, and can be attached to a grocery store. You cannot however buy alcohol in a grocery store or a corner store.

when you know fine well you MUST avoid the grocery stores come hell or high water on the 20th through to the 24th at 12 noon, as due to the fact the grocery stores are closed on the 25th, and people will panic like mad that they may possibly starve due to the stores being closed that one day.

Just a hint, if you have time on Christmas Eve, you may find some good deals in the meat department later on in the afternoon. They will mark the prices down so they can sell them before they expire. Also after 12 noon the grocery stores tend to be dead quiet.

when, you actually see me in Toys 'R Us, as I never set foot in the place any other time of the year!!!

when, on garbage day in the recycling bins are all the cardboard tubes from the wrapping paper!!

when, you actually hear me say, I hope it snows....it's the only time of year you will ever hear me say that, as I can't stand the horible stuff!!!

Now it's your turn..........

This is a very good post written with a lot og humour! and true in any country where people celebrate x-mas. Fortunately we give presents on the 5th of December on St. Nicholas'Eve. Our Christmas is a time of singing. Our choir has to sing twice and then there are the celebrations of various organizations and the Church on 25th December and 26th December. So we are busy enough.

When my floor is littered with pine needles and icicles.
The liquor store here, is called the Red Dot store. The buildings all have red dots on them representing the sun. Cause when the sun is shining is the only time they're open.

Dear Gill ~ ~ Great post. The shops have got soooo busy and everyone is in a rush. Interesting to hear of
the customs of other countries.
I have left a Butterfly award for you on my blog. I hope you enjoy it.
Take care, Love, Merle.

Very funny. I will now stop complaining about shopping in Chicago as I can have my wine delivered along with the rest of my consumables!!!

Gill the liquor store here is attached to the grocery store!
Great post and so true!
I also wondered where the recession was but to be honest, much of this buying you see is on credit and they will be the ones to have to pay the price in the new year.
Do you cringe when someone asks you "are you ready for christmas?" i hate that question!

Great post, Gill. Here in Oklahoma we can only buy beer, wine and liquor in the liquor store. Supermarkets are allowed to sell only 3.2 proof beer, nothing else.
