Lucky Girl

I finally remembered to show you what the kids got me for Christmas.

A burgundy suede Kate Spade bag.  I love burgundy handbags and I love suede handbags and there is a reason why.

Back when I was 18 I had a combination 18th birthday and engagement party.  At that party which was held at the local cricket club there was a knock at the door and I was told to answer it and there was my aunt and her friend all the way from Canada.  My aunt is my god mother.  It was a total surprise.

Anyhow, my aunt gave me a penny for each day I had been on this earth, and her friend Helen gave me a burgundy suede handbag.  I loved that handbag....I mean I really loved it.  And ever since then I have always loved burgundy suede handbags.

I go shopping at the end of August with daughter and the two grand daughter's for back to school shopping, and every time we are in the mall, we always call in at Kate Spade, Michael Kors and Coach to look at the handbags.  I saw this one then, but wouldn't buy it for myself.

Daughter had gone back and bought it as a joint Christmas gift with her brother.  You know what's funny though.  When we were downtown Toronto last month, I called in at the Kate Spade store and once again went back and forth over whether I should buy this bag or not.  I couldn't justify paying $400 + for it.

I am very, very lucky to have such generous kids.

My suede bag

First a short story.  When I was 18 I had an 18th birthday party and my aunt flew over from Canada to surprise me at the party.  It was also our engagement party as well.  Anyway she brought a friend with her, and it was either her, or her friend who bought me a burgundy suede shoulder bag.  I LOVED that bag.  Can't remember what happened to it, but I used it all the time.

Fast forward to September of 2022 and we went to the UK.  We stayed with my brother, and his house is a ten minute walk from Gretna Outlet Mall.  Mark's and Spencer was there, I was in there nearly every day!!  They also had a Kate Spade location.  Now I will say I complained miserably about the prices of things over there.  3 pounds for a coffee was just flipping crazy!!

Anyhow, I called into the Kate Spade store, just to see what's what, not planning on buying anything.  However, as soon as I spied this bag I fell in love with it.  I have the exact same bag in burgundy leather. I visited that store nearly every day we were there.  I swear they knew me by sight.

I went back and forward with wanting it and then not wanting it.  It helped when ds arrived and he decided to buy his wife a bag as a gift, so I got an extra discount.  Then I could justify buying it....LOL😁

Now you are going to laugh at this, but this bag has pride of place in my closet!!  I haven't used it yet.  I figured I would wait until the nicer weather, as I don't want to ruin the suede.

I love this bag and will treasure it!

Do you have something that you love but have never used?

Our Little Munchkin's things I have made her......

First, thank you all for your lovely comments.  I really appreciate them.

Our Little Munchkin was two in November and is growing so fast.  Since she moved up a class in school, her talking has improved ten fold.......to the point she never shuts up!!!  She is so funny and comes out with the funniest things.  Her latest is, "I'm tired," said in a whining voice when she doesn't want to do something.  Then for extra effect if her mother is about she will snuggle into her and suck her thumb, which she does when she is tired.  However........if you wait a minute or two she forgets she said she is tired and is running around like a crazy person again!

She had the biggest meltdown the other night, because her dad put toothpaste on her toothbrush and she likes to do it.  Dd sat her in her bedroom and dd sat on the bed watching her till it all blew over, then she got into bed and went to sleep for the night.  I would love to be able to understand a toddlers mind.  Our Little Man can go into full meltdown mode if someone else other than him puts his clothes into the laundry hamper???

As I said to dd, this is why young people have children, as us older ones would be worn to a frazzle with toddler's and their meltdowns!

Anyhoo, back to what I have made for her.  I did show you the apron, as she loves to help in the kitchen.  However don't ask her to wear it any other time, as she won't, it's specifically for helping in the kitchen.  When she tried it on to show me it fit, she was Facetiming me.  She promptly took the phone and popped it into the apron pocket and wandered off, with me shouting, hello, I'm still here!!
I also made her, her first handbag/purse, I used this pattern and altered it to suit me:
I did make a matching change purse to go inside of it, but didn't take a photo.

I also made all three grands little pixie baskets a while back.

Finally here is a photo of her taken at the beginning of the month for picture day at school.  Now her dad had to get her ready as her mum was at work, so her hair is straight forward, (actually not sure what dad did to it?), as dad like Nana doesn't have the expertise to do the fancy braids like her mum does.
The dress is from the Gap, as we bought it, and probably the rest of the outfit is as well.  We get great deals from the Gap when the sales are on.  She is super tall and is in a 3T and in some cases a 4T because of her height.  She is at least a head bigger than most kids her age.  Her dad is over 6 feet.

Slipper Thief.....

Not sure if it's Brain Fog or just a case of me going/being Senile.
I went down the town on Monday.  Came back in and the first thing I do when taking my shoes off is put my slippers on.  They weren't by the front door where I normally leave them.  Not by the chair where I sit, nor in the bedroom.  I even checked in the garage, just to make sure I didn't put them in there.  Rechecked everywhere again and still couldn't find them.  So I put my Birkenstocks on, still confused about where the slippers could be.

Now this is where the irrational part of my brain takes over.  All I could think of is why would someone break into the house to steal a pair of stinky slippers that I have worn all Winter?  Luckily my more common sense part of my brain took over eventually and decided I was being stupid....did take a while though!

Then while all this was happening, I was looking for my grocery receipt so I could update my grocery total on my blog.  Again do you think I could find it.  I knew I had looked at it in the car when I left the store.  So I looked in the car to see if it was there, no.  Looked all through my handbag, looked in my purse, couldn't find it.  I eventually found it stuck behind another receipt.

As for my slippers found them also eventually, in our walk in closet/wardrobe.  I must have got changed in there for some reason and left my slippers there when I changed out of my old pants into my better ones.

I was shattered after all that.  Being forgetful is just plain tiring when you have to do all that thinking!

Now to make me feel better, please feel free to share your stories of searching hours for something that is right in front of you!!

Some food photos from Ottawa

I finally got around to sorting out some food photos from Ottawa. Pubwells on Sussex. We sat out on the patio and it was a lovely atmosphere...
