The good, the bad and the ugly..........

The Good:

Do you like my new kettle? I got it for free, even better eh!!!  I ordered it from Amaazon, and paid with it using my Amazon gift cards, I get through Swagbucks.  That is a $100 (with taxes) kettle that I didn't pay a penny for.  So if that doesn't persuade you to join Swagbucks nothing will.  Here is a link for more detail on the kettle and here is a link for you to join Swagbucks.

The Bad:

So as everyone now knows as I have whined continually about it, I had to have a root canal on Wednesday.  Well I had three quarters of a root canal, not a full root canal, oh no, I have to go back next Wednesday to get it finished.  Why, well it's something to do with one of the nerves in my tooth and the infection and it wouldn't stop bleeding, or something like that.  So he's packed it with medication and a temporary filling, and back I go next week.

He did say I was a great patient, although he didn't give me a gold star for being a good girl.  I must say it wasn't as bad as having that first tooth pulled, now that really did hurt.  So back I will go again for another session on the chair, though he did say it would only take 20 minutes this time instead of the hour I was sat there yesterday.

The Ugly:

Well we all know what's that's going to be..........actually it should be ugly and stinky........yep the honey wagon arrived.  Well he pulled the lid up on the septic tank it was full.  We were told that the septic tank had been pumped in 2007, but of course they couldn't produce a receipt.    The septic guy said it hadn't been pumped out in a number of years, so once again the people we bought the house gave us false information!!  Shouldn't be surprised by that now, it's par for the course when it has something to do with them.  Anyhow, the guy told us to have it cleaned out every five years, so we'll do that.  He also gave us a pamphlet explaining how everything works in a septic system, so I need to read that.

Gill. May I presume and give you the Top Tips about septic tank care - its really the Top "Don't's":

Divert Rainwater From the Septic Drainfield

•Plan landscaping, roof gutters and foundation drains so that excess water is diverted away from the septic drainfield.

Check faucets and toilets for leaks; make repairs if necessary.

•Use aerators on faucets and flow reducer nozzles on showers to help lower water consumption.

Reduce water levels for small loads of laundry and wait until the dishwasher is full to run it.

Use a displacer to reduce the amount of water needed to flush the toilet.

Keep Trees Away from the Septic System

•Discourage root damage by keeping trees at least 100 feet away from the septic system.

•Trees with very aggressive roots, such as willows, should be even farther away from the system.

The Toilet Isn't a Garbage Disposal

•Never flush cat litter, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons, paper towels, facial tissues, coffee grounds, or cigarette butts and filters. They'll clog your septic tank in less time than you might imagine.

When I was employed by rural councils one of my "other hats" was waste disposal and environmental health systems.

Glad you're finally having some success with that poor tooth, Gill. I hadn't needed a root canal in almost 40 years and was amazed to discover how simple it was now. Almost - but not quite - as easy as a filling.
Hope this is a permanent solution for you.

Honey wagon day? I am so grateful for a sewer system. Just one of the trade offs for living a city life.

Oh, that's annoying about your tooth...But yes, at least you don't need to have it pulled. My mom had to have one pulled last year and she said it was awful.

I thought you were going to say that you intended to use the slurry as fertiliser on your vegetable plot!!! Now that would be ugly.
I had a root canal two weeks ago. I now have a brand new crown and feel like the Queen. My dentist has a new gadget that detects exactly when the canal is filled to the bottom. It beeped each time. Quite fascinating. He spoilt me by putting on classical music so I could listen to it and feel calm. I was given shades to protect my eyes. All in all it wasn't too bad but it's even better now it's over.
I'm sorry you have to go back. You have been through it lately and I hope this is the last of your health problems. I'd be interested to know what it cost?
My crown cost £400, which was for everything.
I like your kettle. Do you remember I did a post about electric kettles a while back? I had an awful job to buy one in America. I got one in the end but it took a lot of searching.
Blessings, Star

Gill, a septic tank is designed to always be full, that's how it works.
It is always full of water, with some scum floating on top and a very small amount of compost at the bottom.
A septic is full.....when the compost at the bottom comes half way up the side of the tank.
Never believe what septic people tell you, after all they rely on people being lazy for their living.
Get yourself a wooden pole about 10 feet long, lower it through the water until it touches the bottom.
Mark the side of the pole where it is level with the top of the tank.
Cut a vee into the pole to remind you where it started, then make a smaller vee half way up the pole.
When in five, ten, fifteen years time that middle mark is level with the top of the tank have the tank emptied.
Meanwhile, measure it once a year in late summer.
John's comments are all spot on!

Sorry the tooth is taking so long, but I hope he gets it right. Another month or two and you'll be all better. . . . . . I was thinking about your septic system. Wonder if it's what is helping your grass grow so well??

Nice gift, but what are Swagbucks? I don't envy you and the tooth problem. I've always disliked dentist. As for the honey wagon, that has to be one horrible job. but just think how bad it would be if the thing didn't get cleaned out. Sounds like the former owners weren't too honest with you and hubby when you bought the place. Hang in there.

Hi Gill...Glad to hear the dentist went rather well...glad he was kind enough to forego futher pains by delaying part (with the infection and inflammation)
Shame the peeps weren't so up front on things at least it's prepped for you now and you have some control over it ( never had to deal with septics)

Thanks for link to Swagbucks going to check that out.

DH decided 2 years ago to get rid of his front partial and get dental implants whcih entailed getting bone grafted from his hip to his gums. Then wearing another partial while the gums healed, got infections, etc. FINALLY the dentist gave the go-ahead this week to schedule the implants!!
AND you can just imagine the cost of this!!
I feel your pain!
